I really don't understand why Kabaivanska is less known as other famous opera singers... I mean wide public, not true connoisseurs of opera. She is great!
She was great in Puccini, but in trovatore, she just didn't have the right voice or technique. The voice is too light, has sketchy coloratura, and as this aria makes quite obvious, she could never sing a trill, and you can't really sing trovatore without having a solid trill in every register. Even Azucena as 20 trills in her Stride la vampa.
Compare her to the great Verdian sopranos as Zinka Milanov, Anita Cerquetti or Aprile Millo for example… I would say this voice is smaller, not of velvety quality and got a less stable technique.
Je n'aime pas du tout son interprétation .Elle semble ne pas avoir la voix requise pour ce grand rôle de dramatique coloratura .Trilles faibles ,tempo trop lent affectant la ligne de chant .Aigus pas très convaincants.Ce n'est pas mal ,mais d'autres comme Milanov ou Caballé ,sans parler de Callas font beaucoup mieux .

Yes, the trills are not great, but the phrasing and sustainment of breath and line is astonishingly beautiful.
I think she's more than respectable, but she's clearly working very hard. It's just a really difficult aria.

In High tessitura reminds Magda Olivero. Her voice was much better suited to Puccini Heroines. Still wonderful.
