  • The Ryman Auditorium is something you hear about on a daily basis if you listen to the radio in Nashville Tennessee. Virtually every band or musician you’ve ever heard of has played the famous venue and it will have wildly different styles of music from night to night. The bigger acts show their clout by seeing how many shows they can book in a row. Brandi Carlile was just there and I think she had a 6-night run.
    As famous as the Ryman is, I had never been to a show there. I’d contemplated it a couple of times but had resigned to wait until the perfect show was there to be my first time stepping in a place nicknamed, “The Mother Church” mostly because of is importance in country music and the fact that it was built in a church :) The Grand Ole Opry will be forever associated with the Ryman as it operated there for decades before it became the full-on concert venue that it is now. As it turned out, what got me there was a phone call from Jamie O’Neal!
    Jamie is a singer and songwriter who's first album called, Shiver had two singles that raced to number one. She still lives and makes music in the area and also has a musical daughter named Aliyah, who I’ve played with on several occasions. After Jamie reached out to have me join her on the show, another artist named Olivia Ooms called who was also on the bill and who I’ve played for a bunch too. The rest of this vlog consists on some of the various gigs I’ve been doing lately and I’ve tried to put the name of the artists in the video. Almost all the songs you hear are the artists original music and if you watch many of my other musicians vlogs, you will certainly recognize many of the artists and some of the musicians as well.
    I’m 15 years old and I want to be a professional musician when I grow up. I try to play lots of instruments but the one that I feel most at home on is a drum set. I would say the only thing that impresses me more than a great musician is a great songwriter so I also spend a lot of my time trying to learn the magic of songwriting. I thought it would help me keep focused on music if I started a drum series where I learned a new song every couple of weeks. After 5 years, it’s now turned into a larger musical search but my goal hasn’t changed. Hopefully, I will keep doing music, keep loving it and keep getting better.

    We took a tour of the Ryman a couple years ago, and also the Grand Ole Opry. What a feeling it was to stand on the same stages as so many legends. As a musician it was almost overwhelming. I can fully appreciate the joy of performing in those places.

    soak it all in stay focused and humble as good as possible
    but bring your a-game everytime
    be reliable be creative be connective and make your artist-relationships as solid as you can
    avoid the negative side effects there are certainly to the music industry
    id love to hear "never meant to" in that concert hall
    oh man how good that "one more day" would sound on that big stage :P
    or how everyone would tear up when you perform "still had me"
    *imagine *do it

      I love this comment. (Funny how you like the things you agree with the most..) but your advice seems absolutely on point and the things that I pride myself on. I always prepare the same, no matter the venue or artist.. I feel like that's the respect they and the music for that matter, deserve. (I also imagined my songs booming in that amazing venue as I sat there :D)

    Pretty awesome Neighbor! There was NO way I was going to miss seeing your first performance at the Ryman. I was so excited for you. I actually made it in this video at 1:49 and 2:29. I'm the fat dude in a red shirt sitting front row in the balcony. 😂 🎅
    I was also at the Cambria and Whiskey Jam. I was off camera at the Cambria, but can't believe I can't see me at Whiskey Jam? I'm gonna have to look closer. Haha!
    Anyway you did so awesome at all of these gigs and I feel pretty fortunate that I get to attend so many of these and watch you slay in person. Looking forward to many more here in 2020! Stay Golden Neighbor! 😁🤘💕😎

    You have come a long way in a few short years. You have met key people who know other key people and the doors open. You are already learning that. Music and country sound is continually changing. Music Row is changing big time. Many artists have studios in their homes. You are a talent on drums as your key instrument. But, continue to write lyrics, learn other instruments. Your time will happen. Your time in Nashville is soon to occur!! Love all your work.!!!!!

    Wow... Jamie O'Neal .. I remember her from back around the mid 2000's. What a great female Vocalist !! She had a killer Road Band back in the day. I saw her in concert a couple of times back then. She was very busy back in the day. She did lots of concerts and TV Shows. Great to know that you are working with her. She still sounds awesome !! I have an autographed 8x10 she signed, on my "Wall of Fame" in my Music Room. I always loved her Australian Accent! lol Pam Tillis, now Jamie O'Neal... The Ryman Auditorium is such a beautiful theater to play in because of the great acoustics that really amplifies all the instruments so wonderfully! I was watching Jon Anderson on You Tube's gig from last May at the Ryman and I have to tell you that your progress has really been totally excellent to highly exceptional above the other musicians on stage including Olivia Ooms! I really love your drumming with whomever and wherever you play; you seem to match up perfectly with the other performers like a pro! That Nashville Ryman theater is so beautiful and you're the best Mia Morris!

    Bobby Bones & News Channel 5 are spamming my computer. Never heard of them. But I do miss Mia's long talks in her vlogs. Perhaps they take too much time. The continuity & entertainment they provide is (was) often priceless. It's her story so she can tell it the way she wants. Perhaps it's all on X and other social media. My take on her recent story is that she is in love with one of her least important songs: "I Don't Do Sorry". Yet at one brief part in it's latest iteration she takes her vocals to a beautiful place they've never gone before. She was deliberately going to that place in her musical aesthetic and in that moment it worked big time. So she has it, the voice, even if she very selectively uses it.. If she continues her lessons and has a vocal coach she'll be all over the air waves in 4-5 years because, I believe, the voice is the most authentic of all musical instruments. She seems able to do what she wants to do with it. Her lead guitar work is already better than most artists her age. With her enhanced vocals and increased mastery of the tools of music, she has a chance to do it her way and be rewarded in whatever way she wishes for her work. She can't escape the fact that she is a functioning adult who will feel the pull of the future of all adults, part of which is feeling alone and blue, and discovering where she wants to go personally and musically, to feel that self actualization taking place. I hope she expands her life to discover much more than that "she doesn't do sorry" except for one exquisite musical discovery part. Perhaps all musicians find their crossroads and kneel to meditate. Then they make a pact with themselves about their destination. It's difficult to imagine that one so talented and committed as Mia wants to remain outside the collective unconscious of we hominin's dreams that are expressed in songs, art, and other forms of aesthetically pleasing creativity. Mia can toss a frisbee so pleasingly that it makes your heart sing. I want to feel that in her musical arts performances. It's unlikely it will happen for me, but all you young people who can hear should listen enough to hear it when it comes. You shall be rewarded! Perhaps musicians in Nashville have mentioned it, but I've never heard it said: Mia is a very superior drummer on a world scale. At age 9 this was her life. I don't know why she needed it so desperately. She needed something that wasn't piano, an instrument that she continues to master. Drumming was a part of our evolution. She must have a deep rooted connection with her psyche that was similar to what I hear in some of her vocals. I want to surf forever on those sound waves. Mia, who had the innate abilities, wanted something similar. When she got a kit from a neighbour who didn't want it, and wasn't so good at age 9 that she consented to taking lessons she, unlike most of us, wanted more of everything to do with drumming. If you look in the eyes of the 9 year old wild child on video you can see them grow large and glowing because she knew her little piece in which she charmed us with its perfect conclusion. Her big glowing eyes and happy smile were beautiful. She was determined her drumming would go the same way.. What I believed with no proof was that her dedication to drumming and drum covers instilled in her a profound association between drumming, her heart beating in her chest, and all music. Wasn't it bound to happen? As the years too quickly passed and she wrote songs and made her own videos, the beat of drums influenced and was somehow a part of what she did. She became an all woman band drum kit. Possibly the best. She could have planned to busk her way around the world. The one woman band had limitations. Except in the recording studio, the one woman thing can grow old. It became apparent to her before she was 14 that she couldn't be everything for herself or for others. She discovered that as long as she was very good at many skills people would hire a 14 year old. Now she does it all on lead & bass guitars, cajon, drums, other percussion, session singer, song writer, and whatever else an artist requires. She's getting more and more turns as "artist." Unless she becomes as enamoured with her current style as she did with drumming, she will be forced to continue her song writing and singing growth. Unless she rejects the idea, much to our loss. I'll know she has mostly arrived when I hear he first rock ballad that goes directly to radio play. You'll want to surf along on those musical waves to wherever she goes; you lucky people.

    Wow Mia! The Ryman! You are REALLY on your way now! And another #1 Hit Artist! First Pam Tillis and now Jamie O'Neil!! I've heard "There Is No Arizona" many times on the radio. I love that song! When artists of that caliber "Trust you," as you said, that is a BIG DEAL. You are, obviously, impressing many important people in the Music City and your name is getting out there. It won't be long before someone asks you to go on tour. Would you drop everything if an artist of that caliber wanted you to join their band and tour with them? It's something you need to seriously consider now, i.e. how you would do school, home-school(?), virtual school (don't know if y'all have that there, we have it here in Florida), family, etc. You need to have a plan ready because it's coming, maybe sooner than you think, and you don't want to get caught flat-footed. Watching the video, I was like you, "I have no words"! OMG!! So proud of you!! 💖💖🎆🎆🔥🔥🙌🙌🤘🤘

    • @miamorrismusic
      @miamorrismusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for such a thoughtful and kind comment. I've given it some thought for the reasons you mentioned and for another main one.. I've been told it's difficult to accomplish much else when you are traveling from gig to gig and I've really gotten into a groove writing and recording most of the time for the last 6 months. I think I'd probably give it a go just to get the experience but I don't think strictly being a touring musician in my teens is probably the most productive move for me career wise. I would love to do several short runs of maybe 6 weeks to really understand what it might be like though :D Thank you for the encouragement and confidence you seem to have in me.

    • @bryanscott419
      @bryanscott419 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@miamorrismusic Seem to have? No, I have great confidence in you! Not only in your abilities, but also in your intelligence and practicality. I wouldn't think it would be good for you to be touring all the time whether in your teens or not. Most successful artists ( and their bands) do a big tour to promote a new album, then take a year or two off while recording a new album, then "rinse an repeat". And I get what you're saying about the routine, or "groove" as you say, that you've established, but if a big, hot artist like say, Carrie Underwood were to ask you to join her band for a world tour, would you really pass that up? Heck no you wouldn't! I was just saying that when your shot comes to be prepared for that. Did you think a year or two ago that you'd be playing with Pam Tillis or Jamie O'Neil? You've come a long way fast already. And you CAN keep up your studies "when you are traveling from gig to gig". Those bus rides are long and boring, they say. There are ways to do that. I would think virtual school would probably be best, because your still studying through your own school district. I have a friend whose daughter did that, then later she attended regular school, now she's studying for a year in Germany! Her mom's from there and she's living with her grandparents. I'm just saying to explore with your family what the options are and decide on a plan if and when they come calling. I have no doubt ya'll will do the right thing for you. I just believe it will happen sooner than you think, #SmartRockStar !!
