I love and appreciate the fact that you took the time to dissect and investigate the cost of producing this vs. the profit. A couple things to also consider: It costs the company money to create and implement production of a new product that hasn’t produced before. It’s also cheaper to produce things in bulk, rather than small sizes. With any product that goes to market packaging is a large portion of the price. So just taking the cost per gallon and splitting it down to 2oz portions will be lower than what it really is. With that being said, even if we inflate it to costing the company double or triple the amount that you calculated, it’s still MEASLY in comparison to what they will make.
I don't like when people say 'natural product' like that's supposed to mean that it's healthy. You know what was a natural cosmetic product back in the day? Lead. Lead was a natural makeup that women would smear all over their faces. It didn't end well for them.
Like many things arsenic or labernam which grows from trees but if you eat the seeds from it you could easily die. Plus it’s not really that natural is it? It’s not like you could make a batch in your kitchen this stuff is made in a lab. Not that there is anything wrong with making products like that but it’s incorrect to label it natural. I live in a small town--the new bar in town (which makes it own liquor) distributed hand sanitizer made out of their alcohol leftovers for free to all the businesses in town for them n their customers. Totally free!
My town has a small distillery that did the same; providing hand sanitizer to essential workers for free. In return for their kindness the locals have flocked to support them.
I live in Idaho and we have a vodka distillary that made hand sanitizers and gave them to healthcare workers and essential workers also for free. Helps with my hands and smells amazing
This is so predatory. If you’re just staying at home you don’t really need hand sanitizer as using just soap and water is just as effective. Not to mention that if theirs is alcohol free, it won’t work against viruses anyway.
a lot of people also don't realize when any business does that "donate this amount through us and we match it" you are jut giving them money to use to write off on their taxes. which, if you like the company, might not matter to you. But corporate charity is just so sketchy.

If they donated a gift in kind, i.e say they donated hand sanitizer directly to somewhere, they can get the value of the hand sanitizers written off. If someone were to buy hand sanitizers and part of their purchase went to a charity, they can only claim a tax receipt for the above value donation (I.e say the item they bought is worth 200 dollars and they spent 250, they could get a receipt for 50 dollars). So for a company that is matching donations, they can only get a tax receipt for what they give. I work in Canada though so not sure if it’s the same everywhere. As someone that works for a charity, corporate sponsorship is HUGE for us and keeps us going. The government does not give charities enough money through grants to support themselves and the process of getting a grant is lengthy and time consuming. Tax breaks provide incentives for corporations to donate, on top of the great publicity for them. Personally, I don’t see the problem with it as this is how charities survive. That said, of course we’d rather you donate the money directly to us but that just isn’t realistic. We realize that corporations are not donating simply for the sake of being good ppl, but does it really matter when the proceeds go to a reputable charity that is helping people? In a capitalist world we have to make the system work for us in whatever way we can. *** please don’t take this as me supporting Monat because they are a pyramid scheme and survive only by scamming other people

I feel like things like this kinda contribute to pushing the blame/responsibility on us smaller, working/poor/middle class people. Like with climate change, corporations are telling us “recycle! don’t use straws! carpool!” Which yes we should be doing our part 100% but we’re not the main players in this. It’s the huge corporations that don’t recycle, don’t utilize renewable energy resources, cut down trees, dump waste improperly!! They would make the biggest impact on climate change if they changed their practices but us lil guys are made to feel like we’re never doing enough.
Also, in order to remain "essential" and still sell other products, many makeup/beauty companies are making hand sanitizer so that they can keep their business going. So it's definitely not out of kindness, it's to keep open to keep making money.

Visited one of their dade facilities for a delivery. They don’t manufacture their own sanitizer. They bulk order the ingredients, “add water”, and then package it.

In just this past week I’ve seen Itworks doing a 2 oz bottle (2 for $5 with purchase of a product pack of some kind...how “generous”), and Young Living heavily advertising how hard their company is working to meet demand (I think their 1 oz bottle is at least $5). I appreciate your numbers work to prove the scam of this “charity” ploy with Monat.
I feel like the hand sanitizer is Monat branded for a meeting or conference and now that they can’t get money out of people to attend the conferences they’re saving face and making themselves look like saints
Years ago I fell into the trap of using Monat products. I have fine hair and the products very quickly made me hair come out in chunks when it was wet. When I let my Rep know i was cancelling my membership and explained why, she lectured me on "the product was getting rid of the bad hair so that good new hair could grow in." She literally sent me tons of messages and videos (the following 2 weeks)to watch promoting the videos to the point that it was practically harassment. This company is ridiculous.
My friend works for this company and defends them no matter what I say... I tried warning her , and she told me how I should join for $200 and buy some of their products. THANK U FOR EXPOSING THEM WITH UR CONTENT

Not sure if the $6.10 cost per gallon is only the cost of raw materials? If they made the sanitizers using a contract manufacturer, it would be more expensive since there are production/bottling fees, packaging, and transport/logistic costs.

I know you keep mentioning how bad it is to start a business during the pandemic... Personally, I'm going ahead with launching my business which I've been working on since July. Life can't stop because of this pandemic. It's one thing to try and profit from this disaster, and another to try and get back on your feet and support your family.

I think my main issue is not with people launching small businesses (that’s very admirable and such a hard thing to do and I have so much respect for you!) but more so established companies trying to push sales during this time (aka companies making $300 million a year with millionaire founders who don’t need the sales and are asking customers in worse situations for their money) or people who are trying to profit from the pandemic (use the pandemic to push for more sales because their product is a cure/ has some sort of angle)
When I originally looked up their hand sanitizer, I couldn't find the ingredients listed anywhere on their site. I did find the donation announcement on bloomberg.com and did see besides the 40,000 bottles, they did say they were going to donate 500 gallons to Florida's Emergency Management. 500 gallons would be enough for 32000 additional bottles. I am with other commenters who think they decided to do this gimic to give a reason for staying open and to convince their customers to buy something for their "free" bottle. Yes, sanitizer is difficult to find in stores, but there are a lot more places to order online without having to order overpriced, dangerous hair products. I have ordered from 2 different places (about 40 ounces worth) since this started. Our local distilleries have also been producing it for sale but also to donate to health facilities and emergency services.
What really got me when she said "no alcohol" was the fact that if it truly had no alcohol it would. Not. Work. You need a high content of alcohol in a hand sanitizer (either 60%+ or 80%+, I don't remember) in order to penetrate the outer casing and consequently kill the SARS-CoV 2 virus. So that makes me wonder if it actually has the right content since alcohol IS on the list.
I just recently cancelled my account after trying the shampoo and conditioner for 3 weeks. Not only did I lose so much hair, but every time I used it (3x), I had horrible cramping, migraines, nausea, and acne on my face and shoulders. I wasn't pregnant nor near my cycle. I looked online to see that the shampoo has red clover oil which is prone to increase estrogen levels. There were also other women who experienced the same reactions plus miscarriages and heavier and painful periods. I notified the rep that I had to cancel and she questioned my symptoms and if the shampoo was really the culprit. She then tried to get me to order the kids line and I said no thanks. The guy I talked to on the phone with monat didn't seem surprised with my symptoms and asked if I wanted to talk to someone higher up. I declined but I was thankful they didn't charge me the early cancellation fee. It's very frustrating that they would allow my (and others) body to be put at risk for the sake of "beautiful" hair. I really don't think they looked at all of the ingredients in their products.
I have a monat hun on my insta.....all she says about the makeup remover cream is that it melts makeup and makes it seem like it's such a revolutionary concept. I just want to yell at the screen every time she posts a story like bitch!!! My grandma used ponds cold cream all her life to "melt" her makeup and take it off and it would only cost her 3 dollars and would last for the whole month🤣🤣🤣
I know someone from highschool that they sucked in. It was the most predatory shit ever because she has really bad plaque psoriasis on her scalp and she is a very depressed stay at home mom. They told her it would cure her hair loss and scabby scalp. I see her posts praising the company which is strange.

Visited one of their dade facilities for a delivery. They don’t manufacture their own sanitizer. They bulk order the ingredients, “add water”, and then package it.

In just this past week I’ve seen Itworks doing a 2 oz bottle (2 for $5 with purchase of a product pack of some kind...how “generous”), and Young Living heavily advertising how hard their company is working to meet demand (I think their 1 oz bottle is at least $5). I appreciate your numbers work to prove the scam of this “charity” ploy with Monat.

Years ago I fell into the trap of using Monat products. I have fine hair and the products very quickly made me hair come out in chunks when it was wet. When I let my Rep know i was cancelling my membership and explained why, she lectured me on "the product was getting rid of the bad hair so that good new hair could grow in." She literally sent me tons of messages and videos (the following 2 weeks)to watch promoting the videos to the point that it was practically harassment. This company is ridiculous.

Amanda Mc. is a smaller channel (~514 subscribers) and has some great content about being a nurse and being Anti-MLM. (One of my favorites of hers is the video "Nurses Don't Want Your 'Donations' | My Thoughts....") Kimbyrleigha is bigger, but she's at ~231k. ❤️

My mom gave me a few Monat products that someone either had given her or had convinced her to buy. I am so glad I looked up the brand before using. I’m also thankful she had no interest in using them either. Needless to say they went straight to the trash. It’s so crazy how many mlm products are hitting the market. I had never even heard of this company before.

Not sure if the $6.10 cost per gallon is only the cost of raw materials? If they made the sanitizers using a contract manufacturer, it would be more expensive since there are production/bottling fees, packaging, and transport/logistic costs.

I know you keep mentioning how bad it is to start a business during the pandemic... Personally, I'm going ahead with launching my business which I've been working on since July. Life can't stop because of this pandemic. It's one thing to try and profit from this disaster, and another to try and get back on your feet and support your family.
Thank you for sharing this I wish you the best with your new business venture! It truly is such a grey area of what’s “acceptable” and what’s not... I think my main issue is not with people launching small businesses (that’s very admirable and such a hard thing to do and I have so much respect for you!) but more so established companies trying to push sales during this time (aka companies making $300 million a year with millionaire founders who don’t need the sales and are asking customers in worse situations for their money) or people who are trying to profit from the pandemic (use the pandemic to push for more sales because their product is a cure/ has some sort of angle)
Saying this is charity is insane. They're just giving their customers a little extra goodie that cost way less to make than the profit of the orders
When I originally looked up their hand sanitizer, I couldn't find the ingredients listed anywhere on their site. I did find the donation announcement on bloomberg.com and did see besides the 40,000 bottles, they did say they were going to donate 500 gallons to Florida's Emergency Management. 500 gallons would be enough for 32000 additional bottles. I am with other commenters who think they decided to do this gimic to give a reason for staying open and to convince their customers to buy something for their "free" bottle. Yes, sanitizer is difficult to find in stores, but there are a lot more places to order online without having to order overpriced, dangerous hair products. I have ordered from 2 different places (about 40 ounces worth) since this started. Our local distilleries have also been producing it for sale but also to donate to health facilities and emergency services.

What really got me when she said "no alcohol" was the fact that if it truly had no alcohol it would. Not. Work. You need a high content of alcohol in a hand sanitizer (either 60%+ or 80%+, I don't remember) in order to penetrate the outer casing and consequently kill the SARS-CoV 2 virus. So that makes me wonder if it actually has the right content since alcohol IS on the list.
I just recently cancelled my account after trying the shampoo and conditioner for 3 weeks. Not only did I lose so much hair, but every time I used it (3x), I had horrible cramping, migraines, nausea, and acne on my face and shoulders. I wasn't pregnant nor near my cycle. I looked online to see that the shampoo has red clover oil which is prone to increase estrogen levels. There were also other women who experienced the same reactions plus miscarriages and heavier and painful periods. I notified the rep that I had to cancel and she questioned my symptoms and if the shampoo was really the culprit. She then tried to get me to order the kids line and I said no thanks. The guy I talked to on the phone with monat didn't seem surprised with my symptoms and asked if I wanted to talk to someone higher up. I declined but I was thankful they didn't charge me the early cancellation fee. It's very frustrating that they would allow my (and others) body to be put at risk for the sake of "beautiful" hair. I really don't think they looked at all of the ingredients in their products.
