- You’ve seen Tiago Lemos's nearly impossible Switch Backside Tailside on the huge MACBA ledge in Barcelona. Now find out exactly how the 2017 Trick of the Year went down.
2017 was the toughest year to judge. Anyone in the top 5 could have taken it. But when it came down to the final decision the TOTY judges could not think of anyone else in skateboarding that could SWITCH Backside Tailslide that high of a ledge for that long! Skateboarding isn’t always just about doing the most technically hard trick or hucking down the biggest set. There’s something to be said about making a flatground, many or ledge trick look beautiful while still blowing people’s minds. That’s something special that only a few people can do. From being reposted by heavy skate media outlets to all the Pros & Legends that backed it, Tiago’s Switch Backside Tailslide took skateboarding to another level and will still be respected 10 years from now.

It looks like it took everything in that dude to get that nollie noseslide up there, but Tiago’s sw tailslide looked like he was barely trying. Insane.
To me Nollie is harder because when you pop off the nose you have to lift the front wheels up and level plus you using the weak foot. 😱🔥 Pure insanity

Other people might be able to front krook el toro, but I don't think anyone else on the planet could do this switch back tail like this!

If he switch Ollie's that high he must be able to regular Ollie over a person lol.
Some people can pop switch higher then regular, I have a friend that's like that. He feels uncomfortable a little like how skating switch does. But for some reason he can just jump higher off that foot.
@@omgitsrickatier Me too. I started to learn how to do tricks goofy but since my strong foot is right, my switch ollie is way better.
I'm a left foot person (right hand)...I skate regular..but my pop is way stronger switch or nollie I know it...it's still hard to skate switch it's just you can pop higher....

It doesn't feel like switch unless I skate street goofy or transition regular, FS airs and stuff like that are the only exception because im good at those regular.
@@LuisGarcia-sp8co dude i think we’re the exact same stance. I’m only in the last year starting to see more people have the same weird stance where different tricks and things come the easiest for different stances(the stance i also have) Sorry for bad english, hope you understand. I ride goofy the most when i cruise and in tranny, wallies, slappies and with shuvits and tres, and regular in street and for the most popped tricks, grinds, and i do a lot of goofy nollie tricks which feels like a mix of fakie and nollie. Fakie because the pops and flips feel normal, but i always stand like a nollie something, because it feels better and more comfortable.
It's not necessarily about what "looks" the gnarliest. Don't get me wrong, front crook down El Toro is insane, and if it had won best trick over this I'd understand that too, but there are a number of skaters who could feasibly do that trick (not saying it's easy). A switch back tail on a ledge that high though, practically a wall, although not as intense, is technically more unbelievable
I'm going to have to say that this switch back tail is way harder then the front crook. That shit is a few inches past my belly button.
The front crook just takes some balls and being able to front crook a handrail.
If it wasn't switch would the height of the wall not be as difficult? Not rlly a skateboarder here so I'm trying to understand what exactly makes the trick so good. Thanks
@@teaguejelinek4038 Imagine standing next to 3 ¹/² foot "or roughly your belly button" hight ledge and trying to Box jump up it. Now imagine trying to ollie and bring a skateboard up to that hight and land on top of it. Anything you do is going to be really hard. Even a good skateboarder would have to prepare in some way to start skating shit that high.

For future historians stumbling upon this comment while trying to make sense of our time: this video defines what it meant to have fun in the early 2000s. Looking at this is nostalgic, I don't remember when was the last time I just went out there skating and conquering some slabs of incompetent city-architecture. The streets feel less welcoming now and I would probably die in first bail.

Yo so I’ve had a hard time wrapping my head around this one. I skate regular, and I love to do what I call “fakie back tail”. I call it fakie because that’s how I pop in, but then I’m in what would be back tailslide had I just ollied into it. If I were to pop in switch it would be front noselide. Is fakie back tail correct? Or is it fakie front nose slide? Skate math is hard.
It's a fakie front nose. Because in fakie it's now deemed the nose of the board in that position. Much the as if you set up nollie

This is 2017, I think Kyle walkers insane kink rail 5050 was 2016, Milton Martinez jus got 2019 with kickflip into the carwash bank, and I think Kelly Hart's fakie Tre flip fakie manny on the stage was 2015 I could be wrong. Yea it was def down to this and the fs crook. In the end the judges recalled el toro being fs noseblunted, bs smith & nollie bs 5-0 (nyjah) in 2017. Shane Cross also fs nosegrinded the middle rail in mid 2000's. No one touched this ledge in 2017.
