Hello thanks for taking the time to make a great instructional video on the Uniden Bcd436hp scanner. At around the 5 minute mark you tel about creating a Favorite List. How did you input the frequencies into the scanner?
Please refer to my videos "How To Manually Program a TRUNKED System Parts 1 and 2" Most departments use TRUNKED systems now, but if you just want to program single conventional frequencies, you would go to Review/Edit System, and simply select Conventional before inputting individual frequencies.
Just wanted to let you know I uploaded a couple videos monitoring NYPD today on my channel. For some reason they came out a little unfocussed, but feel free to check them out.
It is important to update the database though so temporarily running the software on a library computer to make some quick changes before going standalone is great.
I would say a used one on Ebay, yet still expensive. I got mine directly from the Bearcat website because I also wanted to have DMR compatability installed too and ready to go.
How much is the range of the antenna that this scanner comes from the factory and what other antenna does it recommend that can be used for more range,
Factory antenna is designed mostly to receive digital trunked systems in the 700 - 900 MHz range. Honestly, it doesn't perform too well on lower bands for analog channels. Even the town right next to mine comes in a little weak on their analog VHF frequency. If the analog source is close (within 2 miles), then you'll be able to pick it up clearly. I have never used any other antenna for this radio. If there are a couple of analog frequencies you wish to monitor, you would be better off with an older conventional scanner. But if your County's PD/FD/EMS are mostly digital, then the factory antenna should be just fine.
@@mrh.1107 I was looking for an update for the scanner and I didn't find anything, maybe I'll find it later. I appreciate all your kind attention, blessings🙏
great vid :) one question could you maybe have the scanner scanned for new york city sometime sorry for my english i'm from the netherlands and don't speak english very well
Sure, I am still planning on doing a video of scanning NYC PD frequencies (Manhattan). You are actually the 2nd person who requested this. Thanks for reminding me.
You set up the service types by pressing the Side button to get to the Main Menu and scroll down using top knob to "Select Service Types", push down on top knob to select, then scroll through all the service types and I would make sure ALL of them say "Yes" next to it.
@@mrh.1107 Thank you very much for helping me, but another question, if you turn off the radio, will the services that you have selected be turned off?
@@haydersalim1429 No, all settings stay the same when you turn off the radio. However, sometimes previous settings change after plugging radio into a laptop/PC.
@@mrh.1107 I apologize for disturbing you, just the last last question. If I restore the settings, will all services be turned off? Do I need to enter my site again? Thank you very much for the help.
@@haydersalim1429 No, the Site is the location of the repeater (with its set of frequencies). However, make sure the channel (talkgroup) under each department you want are programmed in your scanner. There is one main side button, but two sections. I don't recall what the top section of the button does, but the bottom section of the side button brings you into and out of the main menu options. That is the one I was pressing.

Hmmm, I am not sure why you cannot pick it up unless you happen to be in a dead spot. Ever since many P25 systems went simulcast, the BCD436 has trouble picking them up in certain locations. The SDS100 supposedly works better with Simulcast P25 systems. But make sure you have all 4 control frequencies programmed correctly in the Site. You can also set it to scan ALL talkgroups in the entire System under the System Options setting. Here is the link for Montgomery Co www.radioreference.com/db/sid/11160

If you are referring to the clock (time display), that automatically was set when I first plugged in my scanner to the software program on the PC. I never had to mess with it since. However older BCD436 firmware was pretty bad and the scanner would request you set the time every time you turn it on. Make sure your firmware is up to date, which needs to be done on the PC.

I tried to download the programming software...can't even get THAT to work. I think they intentionally made this scanner so complicated to use, and people are so tired of the frustration that they cough up MORE money to get the thing programmed.
There is definitely a learning curve with these digital scanners. After updating the Firmware and Database on this scanner via the Sentinel Online Software, you can manually program it the way you choose. There are countless youtube videos showing folks how to program it. Personally I do NOT like programming this scanner using the online software because one wrong move and you can delete everything you already programmed previously.
Here is an excellent tutorial on how to program it manually right out of the box. Although it is almost imperative that you still update the scanner's firnware and database using the Sentinel Software first. th-cam.com/video/a1kHvFXTu1M/w-d-xo.html
