I live in southern Tasmania and on an acre of land. Surrounded by tall eucalyptus. One of my large trees sadly died, and it was of concern if it fell it would destroy the house. So a wonderful local aborist came and took off the branches and did exactly the same thing. So I would like people to consider doing this for any tree on their property that might die have it made safe, reduce its size and have hollows of hang nesting box of it.
This a great idea except that Camphor Laurels won't die by simply ring-barking them. The roots and trunk below the girdle will throw suckers and create a more dense thicket than before. They have to be poisoned.

There are some huge Camphor Laurels along the banks of the North Pine River, downstream from the Dam. They could do with modifying like this.

Its great for wardrobes and chests to keep moths away! We should be cutting them all down for timber.
