I try to provide as much as info as i can when its actually available. Sometimes speculating helps especially when others ask my opinion anyways. But agreed - actual footage is always best when it can be done.
Plays like Orion with that damage boost implant, plus you get a shield. Not bad at all. I'm not looking forward to bots blocking escape routes with that shield though.

is overdriver gonna be your next favourite weapon after minigun?
I hope y'all noticed the thing where a segment of Blockhorn disappears, meaning that he CARRIES that barricade like a backpack, similar to Arachnos!
Clearly one of the halo loving devs got his way to implement the shield and overheat weapon. :p
I had an idea a while ago for a high energy tank that would anchor in place and get ~30% damage boost and a reduction to incoming damage as well. This is kind of different. The small range of the damage boosting area of the shield makes it so you will mostly be boosting yourself or a single person still making it so you're not doing a lot of moving. But then on top of that the shield wall also acts as a physical barrier for opponents. This lets it fill several roles including DPS, support, tank and area control. It might even be the best for area control. And DPS as well.
Overall thoughts: Blockhorn is cool. Hell, it might even be overpowered, we'll see. I'm worried about that 60% damage increase with the implant. My idea was for it to have 30% tops so it would be slightly higher dps than the 50% boosting mid energy mechs. This makes it the highest DPS by a country mile.
Another note, theoretically this damage increase should stack with a brickhouse boost as well, having the blockhorn doing 240% well over double damage. And it has 32 energy. Might need a NERF down the line I think
It kinda seems like a hybrid between Panther, Aegis and Ares. It's sheild dosent move around like Ares but it's very similar. The sheild can protect multiple people like Aeigis and Panther and it has HP. It also has the same amount of energy capacity like Panther to , I honestly think that this mech is like Panther 2.0 in my opinion

some features ive seen on this is that, if his shield breaks, his ability cooldown will be 13 seconds instead of 6

side note: I keep wanting to call him blackhorn. It sounds cooler to me and his darker skins fit that. I actually rerecorded a couple lines where i said it wrong lol
I currently run Onyx with the minigun and I agree that the damage output is comparable to the overdriver with minigun probably being a little more powerful. That said, once you deplete your magazine you have a 13 second wait to reload. I would say that minigun is better for clearing an area and laying down suppressing fire, but can be vulnerable if caught on the reload. The Overdriver sacrifices a little on the firepower to eliminate that weakness. When you need to hold an area for a sustained period in which both sides have some cover, overdriver will be the better weapon because it keeps you in the fight longer.
I do feel that killing enemies in this game typically provides more than just holding a position so the minigun tends to edge this weapon out. In that sense, DPS outweighs TTK or long term DPS.
Overall though I tend to agree. I think both have different functions and can work for various players. Its just hard not to categorize weapons based on overall effectiveness vs each other at times :)
@@scape211 I run a hanger with a mix of mechs and weapons so that I can pivot to different strategies depending on what is needed at the time. I usually have one mech in the mix that is designed to hold the line, but that's probably just because I prefer team games. It can help a team bounce back after getting decimated by buying time for everybody time to respawn and regroup.

Interesting mech and weapon.
If i would have Blockhorn i would probably put Railguns on it, the shield has a pretty short duration and increasing it is not much worth it because it can be torn down pretty fast by multiple enemies (or 2 EM Rifle shots).
RuFFles used Railguns on it in his video about the mech, he said the DMG increase implant is bugged and doesn't work right now. Railguns 16 + 30% DMG increase did ALOT of DMG per shot, imagine how disgusting Railgun 16 + 60% DMG increase would be.
Yea i agree. when i was testing this (and we had a very short window to test), I thought ability duration and a beefy shield would be viable. But against bots or heavy burst meta it can get taken down fast. Really just the cooldown and damage boost seem necessary for the mech.
This weapon has more compatability and minigun has more damage.

Scape, which do you prefer, Viper or that of OverDriver?

It’s seems like OverDriver is somewhat weak, especially when compared to Mini; would the 16’s be worth it at all, or would you pass?

On paper, the viper has more potential, but it heavily relies on the rockets it has hitting well. Its got a bit more of a learning curve to to manage the different fire types. The overdriver is just simpler and more consistent in its approach.
In reality, both likely fall about the same. Probably like A tier weapons. I would more so focus on miniguns if you can. I know they arent assault, but they are generally of a higher value or capability overall imo.

I have dual 16 mini’s already (awesome weapon) wasn’t sure if I should wonder into the assault side. I know Mech Arena is really trying to improve this sector.
Was thinking about maybe placing the OverDriver 16 on a fast mech like Mimicker or 12’s in Eclipse…..or a high energy capacity future mech.

It cost exact a simple google search on a forum that holds info on resource cost. Also, videos on TH-cam show you exactly how much if you just watch and count as they press the upgrade button. Use your brain and stop asking others to waste time for you.

question.. if i put the implant "ABILITY DMG"in BLACKHORN... will it also increase the damage of the weapon equipped on it (meaning since there is a dmg buff of +30% for barricade amp zone dmg.. will it add another 30% if you put in ABILITY dmg in pilot mod"? or is it useless since blackhorn has a shield ability and does no dmg?
He definitely was created to counter the meta mechs atleast some of them.
I tend to agree. Bastion can do some of that already, but this mech has a more defensive style. To me its just another tank option that will be meta viable and I can appreciate that.

Basically, Overdriver is basically the DOOM Eternal Chaingun (especially Mobile Turret mod) but Blockhorn? Damn. He's crazy.

Lacks behind minigun you say? Well of course. They planned it as an assault not heavy duty. I don't think that even latest addition Viper can pull the weight and be on par with minigun
Agreed and honestly the way it should be. I assume thats why they gave minigun a damage boost in the last balance patch knowing these assualt weapons where coming up. Assualt weapons with no dowsides shouldnt outpace a heavy weapon in dmg when it has a downside. Again though, I havent tested it. On paper it lags behind and that seems correct to me too.

Now imagine a stalker with predator drive attacking an enemy from behind on overheat, marked by orion, buffed by brickhouse, AND buffed the damage boosting shield. Absolutely insane.

I dont believe you will be able to use this boost and the BH boost at the same time. Based on past tests, it usually just picks the better buff and cancels the other out iifc. I have not tested it though.

I don't know about the mech but the weapon is nice
tbh i love the feel, look, and sound of the weapon. I just wish it competed a little better at top end. But in reality I cant know for sure. This is only the test server so its hard to know if it can hold its own in real pvp.

Those stats are rather ridiculous. I’d almost have expected them to add a mythic class and throw this guy in.
Something tells me they’re hurting for $$$ if they’re gonna toss in something so game breaking (because they know everyone at end game will need to buy it).
The stats are crazy but even with these stats, it’s still not going to be the best mech in the game or be in all end game hangars. Tanks just don’t compete as well as faster mechs when hp is valued less than damage overall. So speed actually does more. It’s why you always see surge, nomad, and eclipse in every top hangar. At best, this mech will compete for a spot with bastion when people want to run a tank imo

looks OP and balanced? interesting as those sound opposite, but i think i get what you mean. He does seem very strong and beyond what we normally see for a tank. But he is also meta capable without appearing to entirely dominate the meta. As for my tone, it likely depends on the content i make and how im feeling at the time of recording lol

It’s not gonna be meta. Storm racks will eat through that shield. This mech will be put in an already long line of useless mechs
I have not tested it, but this does have a shield durability implant. That might be a viable option if people fear the SRs. I dont think that alone with make it useless but it is a great way to keep it in check. All mechs need to have something like that imo.
@@scape211 agreed but splashing the ground next to him will destroy the shield and kill the mech. Either way I don’t see this mech lasting very long at end game with Storm racks being so meta
Seeker gets an adherent damage buff plus the specialized damage implant specifically for seeker plus the bonus damage Storm racks gets for hitting shields. This mech is a hard sell lol
@@secretsforu I understand what you mean. SRs are definitely a viable counter, but given this can work as a counter to dash mechs and emp which are also meta it could more a rock/paper/scissors situation if it falls into meta. I have no idea right now though as I only tested it briefly with bots. You make a great point. We will just have to wait and see.

the assault weapon class is so bad comapred to MG's and GB's that they have to rip off miniguns
I dunno if I'd say its a rip off of miniguns. More like combining aspects of miniguns and GBs to make a flexible weapon with slightly less dps depending on the situation.
It's a buffed autocannon, that's for sure.
Let's see how bots will abuse this mech and weapon.
tbh i fear that. Bots placing random impassable shields in horrible spots and making all of the team get stuck is nightmare fuel.

The nature of this game is about moving up the gear hub now. Uncommons and rares are designed to be used for a time so I dont think it will make sense for the long term to make stuff that just wont see play for half of the community on release and only temp use for the other half. That said, epic stuff definitely does see play like Aegis, Panther, Orion, Ember guns, Helix, Nades, etc. And as for new items that are epics - we recently got the fuse mortars about a month ago and will likely have more of them. So I do think epics still have a space.

@@gigachad864 yea thats fair. But anything new will have a waiting period on it anyways. Even when fragment guns came out, they didnt appear on the gear hub for like 6 months. Its just the nature of the game sadly.
