This was a weird time for Richie Sambora's career and it's strange to think where it could've went if Jon Bon Jovi hadn't reconvened the band. It seemed like in 1991 that Bon Jovi was over with and Richie would go on to have a flourishing solo career where he would have been The Rockstar and not just the lead guitar player. And he definitely has the chops and the stage presence for it.
