I actually believe that quillback wasn't based on a fish but instead was just a coincidence that they had the same name. I think quillback is just the most powerful caveman and asserted himself as the boss, collecting stuff from the animals he has hunted.
I thought this video was really interesting to watch. I didn't expect Quillback to based off a fish out of all things! I thought this video was a good way to teach people about mythologies and real life things while also being related to Spelunky 2. I would like to see a part 2.
Yeah, I thought it was really interesting. I kind of did the quillback part badly because I didn’t want to read the word “carpsucker” lol, but yeah, it was really interesting to put together
@@KYGaming100 wait, I literally thought you were an adult because of your voice. You probably get that a lot, I mean I also have a deep voice which makes people think I am an adult as well.
Interesting thing I learned in a Native American history class back in high school: the carved Olmec heads consistently have noticeable Afro-indigenous features (most notably flat noses and full lips). One historical theory regarding the reason behind the carvings is that a boat or boats of African or Afro-Asian fishermen could've ended up stranded at sea and brought to the shores of the Americas. When the Olmec people encountered the African people, their different appearance may have made the Olmec people believe them to be gods. The carved heads may have bern intended to commemorate them.

Hey KY, no problem but I DID want to point out my brother did this video aswell a while ago, still cool video! Edit: nevermind KY i saw my brothers comment
KYGaming in a nutshell: "So olmec from spelunky originated from fortnite because the sky is purple and purple reminds me of my favorite color murple so that means that the olmec head is actually in 1st grade, if we round it up the he is actually in air grade so therefore since we breath air, he actually is from earf that means that since olmec looks like a head then he is from mario kart multiverse wwe championships 3021 this can mean that olmec is the olmec head in real life
I usualy like your content but this is just so poorly made, like not even preschool level decent, if you plan on doing more of this I strongly sugest doing even the slightest bit of research before pressing the record button, "they occupied the tropical lowlands of the modern-day Mexican states" states of what? Of Veracruz and tabasco my dude, is right there, you are making it seem like they occupied ALL of the tropical lowlands of the modern-day Mexican states, you can't even read right, also what makes you thing quillback is inspired by the fish other than the name? Have you thought that maybe he is named quillback because of the porcupine QUILLS he wears on his BACK? Is like you don't even read the in-game flavor text, "obviusly anubis ll is made up" acording to the in-game flavor text he is the same anubis after he get defeated by the Player, was it so hard to even check the in-game text for research?, and is a shame because all the mitology spelunky takes from is really interesting. Hope you take this as constructive critisism and take it into consideration if you make the second part.
This isn’t a history lesson man, it’s just a quick look at inspiration for a video game. I’m not going to bore people with a 30 minute video with a bunch of details they don’t care about. I’ll admit I was wrong about quillback, and should done a little more research. Other than the preschool comment, thanks for the criticism. Have a good day rest of your day, Javier
Sorry, I probably worded that wrong. I just meant I don’t want to put together too many details and extra stuff because a majority of people would not be interested in that. Unfortunately, most people don’t have a very large attention span. I include myself in that category as well
Quillback is not based on a fish. I’m just an idiot lol
Nah you’re not an idiot don’t worry.
@@Feulfire thanks 😁
There’s also spelunky classic so technically it’s 3 games but it’s fine

0:46 What? Quillback is based on Quill back lol. He has a porcupine skin on his back, with quills and all
Look at the pinned comment
Definitely do a part 2
Personally, I don't think Quillback is from real life - it's just that there happens to be a fish named Quillback.
Lol I must have been so tired when recording this. Idk why I thought that. Thanks for letting me know

I honestly didn't know olmec was a thing till I watched history of the entire world I guess
imagine going to the irl olmec then the rocks shatter to reveal gold, you get scared and get back in your car
*then it follows*
Then it starts lifting up its top half to reveal mechanical parts
*then it starts to fly and bombard you with bombs*
I thought the big feesh was a Napoléon fish.

Quillback is just a caveman with quills from a porcupine on his back not based of a fish
