  • This is one of my favorite drills for beginning to learn poi transitions between timing and direction combinations! Stalls and pendulums are the bread and butter of poi transitions and this simple drill will help you begin to understand how to use them in this fashion to switch timing and direction. The key is to alternate which hand is doing the stall in the course of the drill to cycle through! Beginner poi transitions can be hard because you're so focused on getting the trick rather than figuring out how to chain it together with others. It's my hope that in the course of this poi lesson you'll start to get a feel for how to spin poi in a way that will feel more organic and as though you're in control of the prop.
If you'd like to get the skinny on both timing and direction as well as poi tricks like stalls, you should check out my beginner series here on TH-cam: • Beginner Poi Tutorial ...

This is a really great video, I found the most difficult thing for me now that I know a few different moves and dancing is trying to be in the moment and switching directions. Thank you for being so aware of what beginners really need :D

Exactly the same with me! Beginning to learn to flow has proven to be a bit difficult. Didn't know this is what I needed until I saw the video.
