Just bought a Blackstone and had no idea how to do this so thank you for helping all of us newbies out!
Wahoo! Congratulations on the new Blackstone fam! We’re so happy this helps!! Take care and GRIDDLE ON!🔥🔥🤙🤙
I also live in FL, when i got my Blackstone 5 years ago i just used veg oil and have not needed to reseason it since.
Awesome! Where in Florida?
Thank you so much for watching! Griddle on!!!😁❤️🤙
@@waltwins I live in Jacksonville, near 301
I love the overall look of this unit and adding the heat deflectors is a big PLUS. Nothing like seasoning the griddle for the first time and think of all the great cooks that are to come. Looking forward to seeing this one in action!!!
Thank you so much Brother Butch!! They did this one right, and to be honest, it just gets me excited to see what else they have in store! The first time I saw a “sneak peek” at this one, I also saw a supposed new 36” pro (may also be a Lowe’s exclusive) - if it was real, I’ll be grabbing one of those!! 🔥🔥
Awesome. I got a 28” backstone today for my birthday. Best gift I ever got. I cooked some bacon wagu burgers. Juicy to the max.
Oh heck yes!! This is so exciting! Congratulations on the new Blackstone fam!! The burger sounds amazing!! GRIDDLE ON!!🔥🔥🤙🤙
The Waltwin Twins, , I recently purchased a 36 inch blackstone girddle and looked at about 6-8 different videos on how to season the griddle including yours....... I have sent comments to a number of you "youtuber" video producers with no responses from any of you???? So I will add some additional comments to see if any of you respond??? I seasoned my grill based on the composite of all the videos I watched and got what I think was an almost 100 % seasoning....... thank you for that!!! There a couple of comments I want to make. Keeping the temp at high makes it difficult to get the oil evenly spead out and by the time you are on your 4th layer, your towel can burn. Only one of you mentioned reducing the heat between layers of oil. Also NO ONE MENTIONED that if you store your tools in a plastic bin under the griddle that the bid would melt......! Fortunately have a neighbor with a blackstone who warned me about this....... I am going to begin my grilling career with bacon and eggs tomorrow morning....... wish me welll.......
Happy to find this channel, I just put my 36 inch Blackstone together. I will be here often. Thanks
Oh wow, thank you so much for watching and conger on the new Blackstone!! GRIDDLE ON FAM!🤙🤙🔥🔥
Congratulations Brett
Thank you so much brother!!🤙🤙
You're welcome.
Good video guys. There’s a lot of new griddle owners always asking how to season their Blackstone. 👍🏻
This was tough to throw in the middle of cooks, but with the new griddle, and as you pointed out, new griddle owners, we hoped it would help. We have a season video from last year, but we’ve learned most want something updated. Hope it helps, and thank you for the love and support as always!!🤙🤙
I think Blackstone hit the sweet spot for me on this one👍
Right?! Brett is obsessed, I think he’s cooked on it every day since we unboxed and seasoned it! I love the aesthetics of this one - I saw a sneak peek at what I can only hope is the 36” pro version (no air fryer), and I may have to get it if the sneak peek was real! Such a nice machine!😄😄
Bobbi! I can’t wait to see your pics! This is such an amazing machine! I made seared ahi tuna last night! Sooooo good!🤤🤤🤤
You guys are great. Got many of your videos. Can tell you apart, took awhile. Keep it going. Bob LaFavor..Diamond Bluff, Wi.
Thank you so much for watching and for the kind words Bob! We really appreciate it and will keep the cooking videos coming!😄😄
Well it looks good. Ready for the groceries.
It is!! Thank you so much fam - this one is an incredible machine and the the seasoning makes it look so pretty!!🤙🤙
Congrats on the new griddle Brett!

i just used the blackstone condition and seasoning jar
Thank you so much for watching! For sure it works great - it’s one of many oils that work well. Take care!🤙🤙
I'm so happy you guys got the 28 inch blackstone! What a beautiful piece of equipment! I hope you do cooks on it..I would love to see my guys Adam and Brett give an honest review as I know you would...I'm very interested in purchasing the 28 inch so I'm so excited to see whats instore on the channel and up coming cooks! Love from California boys!! 🤙
Thank you so much brother!!! Honestly, this machine is incredible - worth the price!! We have been so impressed! Not filmed, Brett has cooked 8-9 times )in just over a week) on it! So awesome!!🔥🔥🤙🤙
@@waltwins great news boys! Thanks my guys!
What a great video! Thank you guys! Used this method on the cast iron and it’s seasoned up nicely!
Perfect! It is the same process - while slightly different metals (cold rolled steel vs cast iron), they essentially work the same way in cooking! Thanks for the kind words as always brother!!🤙🤙🔥🔥
looking good guys love the new griddle
Thank you so much brother!! It’s a beautiful machine and we’ll put it to good use!!💪💪🔥🔥
Nice job guys!!! That 28" looks amazing!!! 👍👍 (I need to clean my griddle...ahem...😂)
Thank you brother! Lol, we’ve all been there…😜😜
Pulled off that season just in time to cook with CJ. Looks sharp there Brett.
Thank you so much brother! Yes we did! And I had to build that prep cart on Friday! I had a golf tournament on Saturday, so it had to get done on Friday! What a chore! But we’ll worth it!
Haha!! Ain’t that the truth!! That was one of the reasons we got it done when we did!!🔥🔥🤙🤙
Watching seasoning never gets old, I love it. That is such a good lookin' griddle, it deserves bacon, lol! Have fun Brett! Griddle on!

I'm in FL too and watched another video of yours that said Flax seed oil flaked off after couple months and to use Wesson Canola. So that's what I used on my new 36 Blackstone yesterday but just saw this newer video and said to use Flax?
Right, it is all so confusing! We apologize for adding to it all - we are trying to share what we learn (biggest lesson, the “experts” on Facebook aren’t all experts…😂😂) - we have found success with Flaxseed oil, but having seasoned several griddles with Flax, veggie, and canola, they all work well. In Florida, we found that flaxseed seems a bit “harder,” and doesn’t pull up so much in the humidity. We did a ton of research on this and even went to Blackstone to find out what is best. They did recommend for humid areas something like flaxseed. We’ve never tried their oil conditioner, but we’re sure it’s great too!
@@waltwins awesome. Maybe I'll season it with a coat or two with some Flaxseed. Love all your videos and one of the reasons I wound up buying one! Keep up the great work.
@@gus13letter wow, thank you so much for the support!! Good luck and let us know if you have any other questions!🤙🤙

Thank you so no much!😁❤️🤙
Black seed oil cures everything but death❤️
great video just finished dragging this into my house not setting up until i have a cover for it cant wait any suggestions on covers?
Wahoo, congratulations!! I believe the 36” regular or pro series covers should work! Good luck and GRIDDLE ON FAM!!🔥🔥🤙🤙
So that model has the side plates to help with wind blowing out the flame?
Hey man! Yup! Built-in wind guards - it’s a great design!🔥🔥
Is it time a get a Blackstone? I love my Weber Genesis...
The answer is always yes! There is no reason you can't love both.
Haha!! Jason beat me to it! The Genesis is a gorgeous machine! You could add to your outdoor cooking repertoire with the Blackstone for sure - best of both worlds brother!💪💪🔥🔥
would closing the lid help when seasoning the griddle?
Thank you so much for watching! You actually want the surface uncovered to allow the oil to burn off - closing the lid would trap moisture and the escaping smoke. Hope this helps!🤙🤙
I just found your channel and I just love you guys! I’m planning to get the Blackstone grill ASAP. I’m moving to Davenport, FL in three weeks and looking forward to griddling it up!
Oh wahoo!! That is so awesome, and thank you so much for the kind words! You just made our day!🤗🤗 Yay! You are moving to our neck of the woods - we are just north of Orlando! So exciting and congratulations on the new forthcoming Blackstone! Let us know if you have any questions.😄😄
I live in Louisiana and our humidity is no joke either. I may go with flax seed for the first seasoning too if you guys say it works longer. Thanks for another great video
Thank you so much!! It’s worked better so far for us! We’d also like to give the Blackstone oil/conditioner a try as well, so we can compare! We’ve had success with veggie/canola oil, we just felt like Flaxseed gave a stronger layer. Hope that makes sense!!
Now did you use the "WAX ON, WAX OFF" technique when you applied the oil??
Hahaha!! Is there any other way?!😜😜
OK so why do I see other videos saying DO NOT make bacon the first cook .I'm so confused ..To bacon first or not to bacon first ,that is my question ,lol..Thanks for any feedback .You guys are awesome !
Thank you so much for watching! To clarify, as many point out, you should not season the griddle with bacon, but once properly seasoned, bacon is an excellent first cook.😄😄. Thank you so much for the kind words! Take care man and GRIDDLE ON!🔥🔥
Do you guys have a scrape to metal and reseason video?
Yes they do:
th-cam.com/video/rOSCOoO14dQ/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so luv for or watching! Not sure what you mean by a “scrape to metal” vid, but we’ve resurfaced a griddle before. We reseason from time-to-time, but have not yet done a reseasoning video. Take care!🤙🤙
@@KevinWindsor1971 you beat me to it!! Thank you so much for sharing this!!!🤙🏻
@@KevinWindsor1971 Perfect, thanks!
Is using flax oil better than the Griddle Seasoning product that Blackstone sells?
Thank you so much for watching! We’ve not used the Blackstone oil, but talking with Todd Toven, he said it works really well (even off the record!😜😜) - we’d love to try it sometime to see - we only use the flaxseed because the bottle would last longer. Hope this helps!🤙🤙
just got me a 28" blackstone airfryer combo and did not have any flax oil so being overly anxious I used canola oil do you feel i made a mistake with that decision ?
Congratulations on the new Blackstone! That is so awesome! Not at all a bad decision! The first Blackstone we seasoned (and our original seasoning video) we used canola oil. It’s a great choice!! Flaxseed works well, but we have found that they all work! Good luck and GRIDDLE ON!🤙🤙🔥🔥
What griddle would recommend for a first time griller?
That is a loaded question!😄😄. I would say it depends on how many you regularly cook for. We’ve learned that it’s about real estate. My father-in-law only cooks for he and my mother-in-law, but we still got them the 30” culinary griddle from Lowe’s. They say they love having control of a hot and “less hot” side. Many love their little 22” because they are good for what the need. If you think you’ll use the air fryers a lot, these are amazing too! My wife was worried we were wasting money getting the air fryer model because she didn’t think we would use it. Now it’s her favorite feature and we use it all the time!🤣🤣. Not sure if any of this helps at all, but let me know if you have any other questions. Take care David!🤙🤙
Do you have to season the griddle every time before grilling?
Thank you so much for watching! This is something you only do on the new surface, and then from time-to-time when the seasoning layer begins to wear off or chip/flake off. Take care fam!🔥🔥
I just found your channel. I got a dual grill/griddle combo but should I take it back for just a griddle? Does this seasoning method work better than others I've seen where they let it cool down before applying the oil?
Thank you so much for watching! It would depend on what you plan to do - many like having both options! We prefer the griddle, however. This is how we’ve always done it, and how Blackstone now recommends to do it, leaving the griddle on while applying the layers. Hope this helps fam!🔥🔥
Do you leave it on high during the whole process?
Thank you so much for watching! Yes, leaving it on high will ensure the oil burns off and leaves a really great layer of seasoning.🤙🤙
When you buy a air fryer unit, besides the seasoning ofcourse lol, do you have to do anything to the air fryer basket? Cleaning or whatever? Thanks brothers!
Hey brother! Nope, in fact, for the baskets, we just did a quick hand wash/wipe - and it’s good to go!💪💪🔥🔥
If I forgot to put down oil and got food stuck spots, what’s the best way to fix that. Can’t seem to scrape off?
No worries! It will go away after a few cooks - once after a new season layer, I cooked bacon - and it got stuck (happens with bee/fresh seasoning) - the outline of the bacon could still be seen for a few cooks, and then went away. Just keep cooking brother!🔥🔥
How often are you cleaning your surface and starting over with new seasoning. I have had my 36" Pro for 8 month with 3 cooks a week and I have one chip that came up on the last cook. Could it be time to start over?
Thank you so much for watching! We clean after each meal, but reseasoning we only do when we see the surface is rough. If you see just one chip, you should be okay - you can scrape that down a bit and reseason. Blackstone Griddles (the channel) has a great video for just repairing and reseasoning. Hope this helps man!🔥🔥
Where do you get the flax seed oil? I'm having trouble finding it.
I have only been able to find it at Walmart. Other than ordering it on Amazon…
@@kissbrettdouglas Yeah our Walmart doesn't sell it.
@@jm92gt03gt Yeah it’s tough to come by… Have you tried Amazon?
Ya, like Brett said, we have only found it at Walmart and Amazon. Good luck man!🤙🤙
super excited to be joining the blackstone family, mine will be here thursday, im a south florida boy, do you really recommend flax seed oil for the madien seasoning?
Woot woot!! Congratulations on the new Blackstone man! We do - while it’s not required, I used canola oil on mine at first, and with the hood and a cover, within a few weeks I felt the moisture buildup inside would pull the oil and seasoning up. I have since ditched the cover (we have a covered area now), and I used flaxseed oil - I feel like it was a much more durable seasoning against the humidity. If I didn’t have flaxseed, I’d just use vegetable oil (or any high what cooking oil) to season, and you should be good to go!!🤙🤙🔥🔥
@@waltwins thanks man, wifey picked up the black stone seasoning and protection oil so I guess I’m going to use that initially.
@@shadowededge from what we understand, that is really good! We only don’t mention it because we haven’t used it. In talking with Todd Toven, he said it is really good - if you have it, for sure use it! Maybe sometime down the line you can let us know how well it works!! Take care brother and GRIDDLE ON!🔥🔥🤙🤙
@@waltwins of course brother no problem, I’ll give ya my review of it. Let you know how many coats it took and so on
@@shadowededge excellent!!🤙🤙
Did you let the griddle cool down in between layers of oil?
Thank you so much for watching! Nope, we keep it on high throughout the process. Take care!🤙🤙
@@waltwins thank you so much I really enjoy y’alls videos very helpful to me
Just got my first blackstone. Got it seasoned and working on watching more of your videos. Quick question, I got the Blackstone 36 inch with rear grease system, model 1554. Doesn't come with a lid. Any chance you know how or if I can get one separately? Having a hell of a time trying to research that. The 1932 model looks exactly the same except it has the lid and front accessory tray. Thanks.
Thank you so much for watching and congratulations on the new Blackstone! It’s so exciting! Okay, I know Blackstone sells a separate lis for most of the models that do not come with them. You should be able to find them at Blackstoneproducts.com - also, a company called Griddle Guard makes after market hoods - we’ve heard excellent things about the company! Hope this helps fam, GRIDDLE ON!🤙🤙🔥🔥
Bret, I know you had the 22" prior. I just got one as an early fathers day gift. It was the adventure-ready kit from Walmart. I am noticing that both of the sides are bowed out a bit actually rubbing on the lid when you close it. Also, I know Blackstone has something about the 22" possible getting a belly to it. I was wondering what your experience with the 22" was. Also, everyone else feel free to comment on your experience with the 22".
Thank you so much for watching! The unit I had did not have the hood, and I don’t recall any bowing, I wonder if it’s an issue with your specific unit? We aren’t quite sure what you mean by a belly - sorry we aren’t much help here! Let us know if you have other questions though! Also feel free to reach out through instagram message (@waltwins2) or FB (WALTWINS). Take care!🔥🔥
@@waltwins so there is a hump if you will in the dead middle of the griddle. If you take the long edge of one of the spatulas it rocks back and forth both front to back and side to side.
@@patwgrant oh got you! As far as we could tell the griddle surface was relatively flat.
I know this is older but I have the same thing going on with my 28" Blackstone. It is bulged up in the middle and makes it hard to cook certain foods such as eggs as they tend to run onto the sides, front or back depending on where they are dropped on the griddle surface.
It's annoying and was not expected only after the initial seasoning and 5 cooks or so. The bulge started immediately during seasoning and has gotten worse as I cook more on it. I figured it would stay flat longer before having any warping issues.
The manual says not to preheat on high to avoid warping but alos states to heat the griddle on high for 15 minutes to start the seasoning process. Seems contradictory and seems to have caused the bulge in the griddle surface. Any advice on this? Would blackstone cover this under warranty and replace the griddle top?
I have the 22'' Blackstone and sometimes I feel is a tad too small. This one seems it would be perfect for me. I can smell the philly cheese steaks now. What is the first cook on this masterpiece?
Find out on Wednesday!!!🤗🤗🤗
Woot woot!! Heck yes man!! This one is a bit pricier, but we can fully give the WALTWINS seal of approval - this one is amazing! Here’s your hint for the first cook - (will be uploaded on Wednesday) - it rhymes with shmomahawk Shmeak!!😜😜🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Which would you guys prefer this blackstone or the 2 drawer airfryer? I'm undecided! I want to buy one of the 2 this weekend but I can't decide, I'm ok with the size but not sure about which airfryer to go with? Please help!
Hey fam!! Okay, it is such a tough decision! The 2 fryer drawer, if I’m not mistaken, is just one air fryer and a warming drawer. With that said, this one is absolutely gorgeous and is so well built! We normally cook on the big brother of the 2 drawer model, and I love it, but this one is so amazing! We actually love the option of the air fryer up top. One thing to consider (if it matters), the 2 drawer one at Walmart is all electric. This one uses the propane (like the 36” model that we use). It hasn’t been an issue for us at all, but something to consider if it’s a deal breaker. Hope this helps! If not, let us know if there is anything else we can do/help with!😄😄. Good luck - for what it’s worth, we think you will be so happy either way!!!
How quickly can you use the griddle after seasoning it ?
Thank you so much for watching!! We have done a cook right after the final layer is done - we let the griddle cool, and then began the cook - hoke this helps!!🔥🔥🤙🤙
So it's OK to use in a covered area?
Thank you so much for watching! Yes, although some areas may still have restrictions - because it’s not an open flame and it produces less smoke, typically these have been approved. Hope this helps!🔥🔥🤙🤙
@@waltwins thank you so much guys!
Man, wish I watched this video instead of Blackstone’s. Great video. Question for ya. I seasoned my new one (36 inch) tonight with Canola Oil for 5 rounds. I live in Central Florida (Winter Park). Should I get the flaxseed oil and do some more layers on top of the canola I already did?
Also subscribed to y’all! Doing my first cook tomorrow night with Smash Burgers! So excited!
Wahoo, congratulations on the new Blackstone man, that’s awesome!! Also, I’m very familiar with the Winter Park area, we film here in Apopka!
For the oil, the canola is what I first used, and it was great - it may be worth it to do 1-2 coats of the flaxseed oil, but honestly, you don’t have to - we just found it to be a bit more durable in the humidity. Sorry for the half answer 😜😜 - we just don’t want you to doubt the canola - we have found that the griddles are so awesome - really really hard to mess them up at all! If it eventually all chips/scrapes off, there’s a lot of ways to do some fixes. Hope this helps man! GRIDDLE ON!🔥🔥🤙🤙
Oh, excellent choice for first cook!😎😎
How often do I need to season my blackstone
How do I make the hole in the back of the grill.
Thank you for watching, are you talking about the rear grease trap system? It's how all Blackstone's are designed now, I believe since late 2019. Cheers!
I’ll bet that even has that “new car smell”
That griddle is sexy! Lol
That thing looks like it can handle about 16-20 smash burgers.

Oh perfect! For my previous comment, I believe the 36” Blackstone cover should work!🔥🔥
That thing is nice but pricey especially when you could get the 36 inch with two air fryers and a warming drawer for the same.
Thank you so much for watching - if you check out more of our channel, you’ll see that’s the one we cook on almost exclusively.😄😄 This one is very impressive and the build quality is unmatched. We understand it is much more expensive, but we feel Blackstone can justify the price. Take care!🤙🤙
Thank you so much for watching! I don’t need the 36” for my place. I am usually cooking for just myself and practicing cooks for the channel. I have been eying this beast since it came out and I love it so much! We really appreciate the support! Griddle On!🤙🏻
What’s the seasoning for?…. I just bought one.
Hi fam! Congratulations on the new griddle! The cold rolled steel is much like cast iron - to make it non-stick, it requires a “seasoning” layer of oil burned to the surface. This doesn’t give it seasoning in a “flavor” sense, but makes the surface nonstick and easier to cook on. Hope this helps!!🤙🤙
This may sound dumb🤷🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤣😂,but can you used Pam spray on them
@@EnidR365 not dumb at all! For seasoning, yo would want to, but for sure as part of a cook/before you could!
Thank you,you guys been very helpful and keep up the good work 👍🏽🙏🏽
@@EnidR365 our pleasure, and thank you!!
Question- I followed your step by step instructions on my new Blackstone 28" this week. When all done (4 times of the seasoning) the surface on the majority of the griddle has a rough texture. Almost like little "bumps". Is this OK or do I need to re-do something?
Your videos are great to watch.
Thanks
Thank you so much for watching - it seems that maybe the oil was applied too thick? This will lead to the little bums that eventually will flake away the seasoning layer. I would suggest cooking on it and see if you do eventually get the flaking. The first time I seasoned a different griddle, that’s what happened. It may lead to some repair/resurfacing, a relatively easy process. Blackstone Griddles has an excellent video on it if you do need it - hope for now it works fine though!🤙🤙
@@waltwins Thanks for the info. I did watch their video and if appears to be doing that I will get a "brick" and re-do it. Appreciate the help and we enjoy your griddle videos although I couldn't live in steamy Florida year round to cook outside. We're in Rochester NY.
Complete novice here, can these be used to smoke food? How?
Thank you so much for watching! While technically you can, the amount of energy/propane needed would make it really inefficient. We have a buddy, Leprechaun TV who smoked a brisket on his for 5 hours, would be worth checking out! Take care, hope this helps!🤙🤙
Here’s Lep’s vid:

so nothing to season with the air fryer ? Prob. just a wash and go
Thank you so much for watching! Nope, just a wash and ready to go!😄😄🔥🔥
Hey guys, got the same issue with leveling it! How did you go about it 🤔?
Okay, so what’s we’ve learned, is that putting little washers on the pegs that they actually griddle sits on really helps - we do this with our main griddle we cook on! Hope this helps!!🔥🔥
@@waltwins for leveling, I’m guessing you want a slight tilt towards the rear and perfectly level side to side?
Why the backside, asking for a friend?
