Wade always look forward to your videos, hope your doing well brother. Hadn't seen a video in a few months. Don't care what anyone says your THE BEST on TH-cam. Be well my brother.
I worked for over 25 years running a manual surface grinder. If you want to run dry you're better off going with an open grain wheel. I don't know what you are using now but we normally used a 46H. I'd highly recommend contacting a wheel manufacturer and pick their brain on it. Norton was the big boys but their quality has gone down hill and wheels varied so much in structure, I hated using them. I'd suggest Radiac Abrasives. They were always the same and held up great. I have no affiliation with them but they made my job easier. The company I worked for was pressured by Norton to get 100% of their wheel supply and the workers fought to keep the Radiacs there. Their wheels were a little more expensive and the plant manager brought that up ro me. I then informed him they lasted about 3 times longer so they were saving him money. LOL
We have a Radiac Abrasives wheel plant here locally and the grinding wheels are very good. I had a good friend that was a higher up there and he kept me stocked up on all different types and sizes of wheels. He passed away a few years ago but im still stocked up,,,for now.
Holy crap Wade almost missed this vidja. I always say in anything, time and efficiency is money . Glad you got the old out of the weeds and back going. Nothing worse than a weak link in a production business. Have a good one.
I run a Cooks cat claw sharpener. Cam driven and as long as you keep your rock shaped you get the same grind everytime. Nothing more frustrating then swapping out a band it cuts just as bad ad the one you took off. I like the repeatability of a cam sharpener. Have to agree older is better in alot of applications.
I agree with you. Things years ago were built to last. Now we have the industry BIO syndrome. Built In Obsolescence. This just doesn’t restrict itself to parts that are going to last 2000 operations. The machines are built in an over complicated way that repair is either too expensive or too complex for the ordinary person. Get a new one! The cam is a perfect solution for this operation. It’s predictable! The workings of a clock or watch are basic but they combine to be a precise and consistent unit which is what you want . Timepieces are tried and tested by this stage !
There’s a reason if you go into any large scale furniture manufacturers you’ll find motors, machines and equipment made in the early 1900’s. Might just be they might be old but they are dependable.
I spent 10 years in manufacturing. You aren’t whining a bit. There are plenty of us that have lived your pain of trying to have better uptime, more throughput, and better predictability of production. It takes a ton of consistent effort over a long period of time.
I don't remember if your pulling power off the grid or if you are running generators, but if your burning up motors a quick check on the voltage and hertz going to the motors may find a crudded up connection causing a start of a problem
Wade, reminds me of the cars and trucks nowadays. They run great when they do, but when they break down, oh my, they be very pricey and the shade tree mechanics can't work on em like they used to. Just look at all the cars sitting in lots because they can't get the computer chips they need. Great vidja and thanks for including us. John here, from the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee.
The new stuff is way over priced and to get it fixed by a tech or mechanic is so unaffordable anymore. You keep doing you and take pride in your business you worked hard to get there. Things will switch around they always do. Thanks for the Video bud.
JB Weld your busted gear box and never look back. I knocked a hole in the oil pan of a Twin Cam Harley more than 10 years ago. Doesn't leak a drop. I've thought about swapping the pan every time I change the oil, but at this point it's become a durability test. And yes we're still jumping terraces in the pasture with it. Y'all come see us, We'll leave the gate open....
Wade you are a man after my heart. There is always a way to accomplish seemingly impossible things. The rebar in place of shifting sounds like one of my creations. But hey man it works. Might drive book people crazy but this kind of spirit is what built this country and made it great. Sadly is lacking for the most part.
I farmed for forty+years dragging stuff out of the fencerows. New things are no good. I'm happy you are back Wade. Best regards from up here in Boone County.
I know you got some great people working for your family. If you didn't it would always fly apart. No way for you to keep everything in your mind and keep it running.
Wade your dealing with the same stuff as I am on the boats is technology. I swear by old school has always been the best our ancestors made these products easy to use and work on instead of being impossible to work on.
In the end you will be better off, automation now is meant for speed and mass production. I mean you've said it yourself the new trucks coming out don't have the build quality of the 70's but they have the tech to make em more powerful. Same goes to your business. You need a machine that does its job, is reliable and can keep production from coming to a stand still while you have open time to see how you can make that machine produce better quality. That's all that matters. Great video on a topic a lot of companies face problems with every year.
OMG, Sunday afternoon, just had supper with Logger Wade? Nothing any better than that. No your not a whinner nor a complainer just a down to earth guy trying to hel; your employees and your sanity to stay afloat sir. Love every minute of your videos, thank you.
Long time no see yall, i miss ya , been busy with life and the two boys, going to be back at the video making soon , adding homesteading to the list of stuff so were not just doing the same old logging stuff! Hope to see you in the comment section again soon! Great vidja!
Wade you can take it for what it's worth. I dated one of the daughters of the owner of Anderson equipment, yes they were/are the main manufacturers of saw filing. Yes I grew up in the Northwest, talking to her dad understanding his equipment blew his mind. Meeting her dad was interesting for both of us, I respected him and him me, until the break up.
You hit the point reliable and steady movement and sawing the dickens out of wood and getting it done,Wade you got mad skills DP is right you a good Man with a dam good attitude i think 👍😎🇺🇸 NY
❤😂 “2” words!!! SIMPLE WORKS!!! You can NOT beat old school I had a computer control saw sharpener an had nothing but headaches after headaches with that high dollar piece of crap… went back to old school no headaches everything is precision and that’s the name of the game. I hear ya and I understand you.❤
Hey wade, you do a fantastic job on what ever you do, you have the skill and knowledge to master whatever you set your mind to do, you have the knowledge to systematically solve any problem no matter what you touch, you should be very proud of what you have achieved in life.
When you are running equipment a long way from any support/ parts, then simple & easy to fix usually works best. Armstrong Blue appears to still make the old style band saw sharpeners. The newer models have a few more add-ons (grinding wheel shapers etc). The Swedish Steel company making steel with hydrogen (rather than coking coal) claim the steel properties are better, so the swedish saw steel could one day get a little bit better to handle the dry grinding? Electrical Power. Monitoring equipment is affordable if you are using a commercial amount of power. The power companies/ ev charger co are putting in batteries with the chargers in places where there is insufficient line power. A battery pack could give you time to switch off equipment rather than run electric motors under load in a brownout situation.
Sure, the newer electronic stuff can be more "efficient" when they're running, but then something breaks, and you can't fix it with baling wire. It's why the older stuff can still work after 100 years.
Wade like you said, the old ways are always better. Less things go wrong and like you said, a can won't go bad unless it totally worn out. And even if it does you can always repair it. All this mechanical, I'm going stuff. Put in computers. I don't work on cars anymore because of computers. I hate him give me an old car. That's got points and condensation. A car parade or not to make it run. Won't give me any of the computers and if you injected in all that didn't build. Jack didn't know that alright. This is Bob from Vero Beach Florida. God bless you Stacey, and you have a great day.
Thanks Wade you always have a positive and can do attitude And you admit your mistakes and are incredibly humble Not all heroes wear capes 👍 Wishing you every success bro
.................G'day Wade, The "Old World" was based on Logic and Honesty, glad to see you heading back there. Love you. Cheers and kind regards, Malcolm.
Wade, with your grinder with all the bells and whistles, I watch a channel called Watch Wes Work and he used to work on old milling machines which I assume is the same as you grinder guts. I would watch his channel or contact him for some advice. Mike with Dirt Perfect are friends with him and he can probably help you out getting you in contact with Wes.
A way to find another one of those types of grinders would be to take its name and look it up on the internet or find someone who has one that they don’t want it anymore like how that yours was
Most time simple an effective is the best way to be. Not knowing an dang thing above them saw bands the ol cam machine may be slower but still very effective
Head saw.!?, is that the one made by Rabbi Short LLC Model #1 Mohel 🤣😂🤣 Hot dog .... I love it when ya get lucky when you find a treasure like that. Good on ya bud!😁👍
At 19:25 you see the blade clamp leaning to the right as the paw indexes the tooth. Problem is the stone is coming up the back of the tooth and grinding the tip of the tooth at an angle to the body of the band. You really want the top of the tooth perpendicular to the body of the blade. The lean may not be enough to cause major issues, but if the saw starts to wonder more than normal , I'd address the clamp first..
Wade, it's all about the engineering dept that designed it. They never ran a grinder or machine in their life many times i would love to ask the what the hell they were thinking and why so complicated
Your ability to fix something with whatever you have on hand is one reason I watch .
The old stuff is simple and too the point that's the reason it last a hundred years.
Wade always look forward to your videos, hope your doing well brother. Hadn't seen a video in a few months. Don't care what anyone says your THE BEST on TH-cam. Be well my brother.
Wade, You are our logging MacGyver!! Glad you are back to making videos for us to enjoy!! You got an infectious laugh and attitude!! Thank you!!!!

Cant go wrong wit older stuff in my opinion❤

Simplicity and dependability!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The simplest machines always seem to last longer and be less problematic. More moving parts equals more potential problems
I totally agree.. that's a damn drop in a bucket compared to the big picture of running the business. Fix it a roll on to bigger and better things
I don't remember if your pulling power off the grid or if you are running generators, but if your burning up motors a quick check on the voltage and hertz going to the motors may find a crudded up connection causing a start of a problem

We have a bush hog that we fill with grease every year because it won’t hold oil. Probably mows 150 acres a year.
Tree people and dirt people just have a way to put things together that work better than another groups in the world, god bless us.
The new stuff is way over priced and to get it fixed by a tech or mechanic is so unaffordable anymore. You keep doing you and take pride in your business you worked hard to get there. Things will switch around they always do. Thanks for the Video bud.
Amen
Great video as always Wade. That was a pretty cool. Love learning this side of the business.
The KISS system will never let you down.
You are awesome sir, please stay safe. God bless.
All ways use the KISS principle. Look it up, that is what you did. Simple, is always better. Well done Wade.
The KISS method! Glad to see someone who figures out the problem/solution versus just taking out another payment on new equipment!
JB Weld your busted gear box and never look back. I knocked a hole in the oil pan of a Twin Cam Harley more than 10 years ago. Doesn't leak a drop. I've thought about swapping the pan every time I change the oil, but at this point it's become a durability test.

Love it, predictability is the key, no one like a nasty surprise!!
I graduated from NHLA, I took the 12 week class! Great place wish Rich was still there!
hello Logger Wade & it's is Randy and i like yours video is cool & Thanks Logger Wade & Friends Randy
Wade your dealing with the same stuff as I am on the boats is technology. I swear by old school has always been the best our ancestors made these products easy to use and work on instead of being impossible to work on.
Great job Wade, yes sometimes older machines can out shine the newer tech, very well done on getting it back in action, fair play 👏👏💯👍🙏🙂

That cnc machine sounds like it is over engineered. I like the old school tried and true machines and methods.

Form and function. AND A big pat on the back Wade.
Wade, you got to do what you've got to do! You are good fixing things, you've proved it over the years. Keep on keeping on. From UK.

So glad your back wade , love your common sense approach to everything, love you brother.
I can’t count how many times I told you to watch where you put your fingers!😂😂😂 Great program Wade!👍👊
Hahaha thanks bud
Thanks Wade you always have a positive and can do attitude
And you admit your mistakes and are incredibly humble
Not all heroes wear capes 👍
Wishing you every success bro
I appreciate that
Great job I am a firm believer in KISS Keep it simple s. God bless you all.
Wade I agree with you . I have way of thinking that says if it's works good and or is not broken dont mess with it and do your best to keep it simple.
.................G'day Wade,
The "Old World" was based on Logic and Honesty, glad to see you heading back there. Love you.
Cheers and kind regards,

I agree, if you can, keep it simple
Gotta like this ole boy......

Good stuff Wade thanks for taking us along. You are spot on with time being the most important.
Wade gettin' all intensified . :) Good vidja . LOL
Wicked video brother! Nose to the grindstone! Get some🔥
I use to file our bands with a machine that was made turn of century. I'm taking 1900. Simple cam machine
Amen on that
tater dont apoligize for nothing! u the man!!
As always, very interesting. Keep sailing along! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
You're a master craftsman.
A way to find another one of those types of grinders would be to take its name and look it up on the internet or find someone who has one that they don’t want it anymore like how that yours was
love the old tools so much better and it worked just fine cool mr wade been watching ya long time keep on trucking
Thanks Wade. Just needed to hear simple might not be faster but more efficient in the long run. Goes to say with any business. Stay safe
GOOD JOB DUDE! Just do what has to be done!
Love ya ole boy. Said it before and I’ll say it again. You’re an amazing inspiration for me. Smart man.
Thanks bud
I really miss your videos sir... your a very good man sir.. WEEEEEEEEEEEE love the videos. come back sir.
A variable speed drive for the cam motor might be helpful!
Good stuff Wade a little or a lot of persistence solves problems !
Great job Bud!
great video Wade and i see where you're coming from over engineering is not always a good thing 👍👍👍👍👍
You're awesome Looger Wade!!! We love you here in Eastern NC!!
Thanks buddy
Most time simple an effective is the best way to be. Not knowing an dang thing above them saw bands the ol cam machine may be slower but still very effective

Thanks Wade, just keep on keeping on!

Hot dog .... I love it when ya get lucky when you find a treasure like that.
Good on ya bud!😁👍
Great job and hope you have a great week.
VERY good stuff .. Thanks for sharing.
Mr Wade, you are amazing love the videos an the channel, glad things are going good for yall. Sometimes simple is just better
