Hello, thank you for the video. You was mentioning only one line input on your audio interface for you digital piano. But in that case you will record only mono signal, while your digital piano has stereo sound. So, for your instrument you have to use two input sockets to get stereo recording.
Update: I bought the scarlett 2i2 and now I can record the piano keyboard. All you need is a Y cable : 3,5mm or 6,3mm(if you can find it) on One side and 2 (6,3mm) at the other side! 👌
Kchoonk both left AND right to your interface so you'll have stereo. Plus you'll need more than 2 inputs on your interface to include a microphone if you want to sing at the same time of course. Stereo is much better.
I have a Yamaha NO-32 keyboard, with a Scarlett 212 audio interface that connects to my Mac. In the process of recording piano compositions, with vocals, into computer via audio interface, eventually to listeners. Thanks for putting it all together.
I am new to it and trying to learn. 2i2 has only 2 input, so how would you put both the keyboard and microphone? Because the keyboard itself would need 2 slot.
@@chiradeepg hi, could you find more about this product? same question but no mic needed, I only want to record the audio from my keyboard that has 2 audio outputs (mono L - R), so Does the model 2i2 record in stereo by plugging in the cables for instance in input 1 (for L) and 2 (for R)?
@@gabrielirlanda You would need two.... or a 2 to 1 Y-Splitter in quarter inch....they are about 40-60 dollars. But for that price you may as well get an interface that has more inputs.
Hi, would you not want your keyboard to output in stereo and connect both left and right audio outs to your Focusrite? Of course that means you cannot connect your mix to it at the same time.
I'm pretty sure you can use a 1/4" Y-Splitter that has a Quarter Inch stereo end. I'm pretty sure that would work... that way you can use one input as stereo, and the other for MIC.. but she has it coming out of 1 mono from the Digital Piano....so she is definitely recording mono.
I'm setting up a small studio too. I have a Korg SV-1 piano which has Midi connector, so I'm guessing I can do a similar thing when using a DAW? Thanks for your easy to understand approach. At 53, I am struggling to understand this technology as I've never used anything like this before and don't know what I want exactly. I'm in the UK.
Great tutorial ! One question I have is the scarlet2i2 input jack for line in is mono even for TRS cable, correct ? So you need two TS cables for Right and Left output of keyboard and connect to two line in jack on audio interface to record stereo track.
Are you sure the line in is only mono? For instance, a headphone jack/out is in stereo (yet through a single TRS), and then is split off to right and left headphones, so, in the same (but inverse) way, would it not be possible to have two stereo outs (R and L) from the piano split to a single TRS cable to plug into the interface? (I honestly don't know, and can't find the answer, is why I'm asking). Please correct me if my presumption is wrong.
@@51MontyPython No, the way she connected the digital piano is throught the MONO out into one channel on the Interface.... She is recording MONO and probably doesn't realize it.
OMG she seems so cool, but no doubt she is going to face reality. Not using the 2 KB outputs and using headphones is only going to give her a "perfect mono" signal :0( I feel as if she deserves better. Someone please tell her.
You should be a teacher. I have searched in vain for an instructional video that is presented with the realization on the instructor's part that the student is born into this world knowing absolutely nothing and must be taught as though he knows nothing. You clearly have a firm grasp of this concept. That is actually a very rare talent. You have been a very great help to me. I also am a noob, but probably in a more extreme sense than you. Thanks, and please keep singing, writing and teaching.
I know.... it's hilarious... I don't even think she knows she's in Mono....She probably thinks since there is sound that it is the same thing....or she doens't understand the difference between stereo in mono... which is kinda important in recording.
OMG!! Does she NOT realize she is recording in MONO?? She should ask for a refund from her "class" that she paid for....becauce they are obviously NOT teaching her how to record in Stereo.

Is there not a way to have both R and L line outs (from the piano) transferred through a splitter to a single TRS for the interface input?
@@51MontyPython same question here! Because I wanted to buy Focusrite Scarlett Solo but I guess I have to buy the 2i2.

What a sweet video. I hope you've got it all sorted out and have been making lots of great music. Wishing you all the best.
Well done on a very informative video. As someone with a lot of home recording experience I thought this was a great explanation for newcomers.

Hi Gina..... Nice presentation 👍..... Have you ever tried to record your keyboard stereo through your 2i4? Please let me know if that's possible 🙏
You explained this so well thank you !
thk so much..great detailed info . I am a pianist and no so technological, any other tips as of today?

Worthless. Recording keys does not work in this way. Both the preamps to be used at a time.
