    The updates have been sparsely, but here are a quick one! The build has been taking a lot more time than planned due to a very weird situation with the paperwork for the car. And all this had to be sorted before I dared to use more money on it.
    But after months of waiting and me not really doing much on the project, it finally got sorted. So I started up again after the summer and things are coming together nicely.
    Missing a few key elements for the final assembly, but getting my hands on the engine is a huge milestone for me.
    When this build started I had never done more than normal maintenance and replacements of parts. Like for like. But wanting to travel full time and be able to keep my self on the road anywhere in the world needs one thing. And thats knowledge about said car. And after investing hundreds of hours in this car, I'm confident enough to swap the gear box on the side of the road if I'm in a major pickle down the road.
    However, some attention to detail in the final hours of the build will ensure a few good years without anything major (knock on wood) failing!
    THANKS FOR WATCHING,
    K

    I may or may not have noticed my rear leaf plates being the wrong way around whilst editing this.
    The parabolic leafs was too high for me to even think about connecting the bottom end before now, so I’ll excuse myself 😂

    I can't believe what a work you done. With all that rot all over the car including chassis you basically built a new car from scratch, and all the parts looks pristine now. This is some car porn level. I don't know how a one man with little to none experience with such a rebuild is able to do this kind of work in small garage by himself. Really like your videos. I was afraid you switched to shorts only, so I was excited when this 25 minutes clip dropped. Thank you for this content and wish you good luck. Want to see the car ready and loaded with gear at the end.

    I've been watching since your first series video. That kickstarted an obsession which has finally culminated in me buying a 1983 Series 3 Stage One that was fitted for radio, ex New Zealand army four weeks ago. About 10 years ago it had the 1PZ diesel engine, gearbox and axles swapped in from a 70 series Land Cruiser, as the original Rover V8 bent a few connecting rods.
    Thank you for introducing a new passion to me. I just got back from a 3 day trip into Northland to pick up a full length LWB top for it and this was the first video on my list to watch.

    At this rate, it is a thoroughly brand new car now. Even with dents and imperfections I can't believe you will put this rolling artwork restoration piece - and you're talking about the next 50 years for keeps - on an actual dirt road before the 50 years expire.
    It's like taking your holiday china on random picnics jostled around in a shopping bag. Too nice and so special to be a daily.

      Built to be used, back in 74’. So keeping the spirit alive and keeping it rolling for traveling. It’s like nice china, but can be fixed over and over. Never actually shattered 😎🤝

      @@kasperhoglund There's good, as juxtaposed to good-enough for a rolling around adventurous rust bucket. You made it spectacular. That's entirely a different class of its own. It belongs into a Norwegian branch of the Petersen exposition.

    I'm really interested to see what you do about the interior. I remember you having a full bed, cooking table, solar panels and stuff in your old discovery. But that was a bigger car than this one. That's what makes me wonder what your plans are for the interior. I'm sure you have plans or you'll figure it out. This is turning out to be a beautiful project.

    • @kasperhoglund
      @kasperhoglund  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Actually! The discovery was smaller inside because it was registered as a van with a fixed wall separating the front and the rear. Will have a convertible bed setup in this, for the obvious reason considering the length of the car.
      But it will be and feel more spacious at the same time in other ways. Keeping it very simple and lightweight because it’s not as powerful and is trying to not bring unnecessary stuff in this build. Way too many people bring too much stuff for traveling just because they can 👍

    Thank you for this great series of videos on your journey with the Land Rover. May I ask if you made any gearing improvements/modifications to the gearbox/transfer-box..?
    I have an original 1983 SIII 2¼ Petrol with only 29K miles and would like to explore the possibility of improving the high range gearing to give slightly taller ratio's....

    • @kasperhoglund
      @kasperhoglund  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks! The gearbox had signs of being rebuilt at one point when it was in the UK. So internally it was in perfect shape. So I’ve replaced all bearings, springs and bushes. I also have an overdrive in this, so highway cruising is a bit better than just the plain LT76 box without any extra. Higher ratio is “constant”. But having the ability to throw in the overdrive gear is very satisfying. But, even more parts to look after ofc.

  • @196hendrik

    • @kasperhoglund
      @kasperhoglund  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! I “could’ve” rushed and gone now, but winter is right around the corner. And I need to rig out the inside a bit, fix solar, heating and other bits. So I’m aiming at departing early spring or late late winter.
      Will have some pull out storage out the back, a foldable bed towards the front. But otherwise keep it very simple and lightweight for the sake of simplicity. And it having 70 horses and being 3,6m long 😂

    Looks awesome! Though, make sure the oil and water galleries are cleaned out. It's almost certain that some metal from machining got in there and it’d be a massive shame to grenade the engine due to a lack of cleaning. Unless the machine shop did that, but I wouldn’t necessarily trust them 100% (the tiniest fleck getting to any of the bearings could be catastrophic)
