Will Colleges Reopen In The Fall? | TODAY
Online class is not worth it, it just paying for classes that you could watch on TH-cam for free
Yup I'm international student and it feels bad traveling over seas to study in the best uni then forced to study online lol
Messiah screw on campus classes I prefer online since I work overnights and have a busy life schedule
If they are doing that then tuition needs to be slashed
harsh reality is you need that degree for stability bro, sucks ;-;
Really? No college credits for just "watching" TH-cam videos.
Taking classes online right now, definitely not worth the cost from a majority of universities. Community colleges though are cheaper and great options
Same here, taking chemistry and there is no labs despite paying for it.
What about upper classmen of grad students?
If my college doesn’t open I’m just taking online class at community college for half the price
Community colleges should have always been an option to save money. I guess everyone would rather spend more
I’ve been taking classes at a community college it saves me a lot of money
Translation: If you don't come to class, we're going to be broke.
Yes!!! Perfect translation.
Translation Translation: give us money
@@ZAGGNUT1 I mean, thats how they earn thier livelihood

Personally, I prefer in person classes. I’m really big on procrastination. During the last few months of online classes, I’ve been waiting literally until the very last minute to watch lecture videos. In the end I still did pretty well on finals and everything, but yeah, I still prefer in person classes. It’s too hard to stay on top of everything when it comes to online classes.
Same. and on top of that I attend an art college. I like need the resources from the campus. The workspaces, easily accessed supplies. And personally I just learn better face to face rather than a bunch of words on a screen.
Letting slackers with the education in
their own hands...not worth the time, these students need to be held accountable for their education...for some college student, it is hard to get clarification from a professor when they are lost and BAM failure strikes fear into the student’s heart.
*SAME!*
I dont know why but i find it harder to study online. It's just not the same.
Yeah I totally relate, I NEED to take classes in person
This is terrific. People are being more hesitant towards college and going to college won’t be the norm. People will plan and start asking themselves if college is right for them
nana agyeman finally
Truuuu
people are starting to look at community college
I highly recommend doing some research. College is great opportunity for many people, but not all. Its shows that you will make hundreds of thousands of more dollars in your life time than with just a high school diploma. The stigma of college being a money pit leading to nowhere is an exaggeration. Look toward the tuition of you'r local college and not ivy league, paired with with the first two years at a community college the debt can be about the cost of a car (15k-45k) for a typical college. Most of the debt horror stories come from people who did not understand how loans worked when they started and end up with a double digit interest rate, which is why I am very opposed to uni directly after high school. A lot of jobs still require degrees and even more opportunities open up with having a degree regardless of majors.
Right now I'm finishing up my associates and looking into university. My experience has been great. The people, the lessons the skill, a lot of things that can't be found online. I'm not here just say your wrong and rub it in your face, but to point out I once had this mentality and it was skewed to put it bluntly. It's for certain ideas to be exaggerated online.
nana agyeman imagine being proud that your youth are not going to college.
I really hope that this shock to the system will motivate some change in the cost of higher education. College these days is practically a necessity priced like a luxury, and that should be reversed.
Katelyn Pringle that’s just America. Try somewhere outside, like Canada or Europe
Community college + independant study + group meetups at mom and dad's house is probably way better than a "4 year degree"
Especially general Ed courses are not required in your field of choice waste of time and money
it wont, the problem of U.S.A public transit being 40 years behind ( trains, planes, airports in some cases ) college flaws, no universal paid off time or maternity leave, our country has had these problems always, nice seeing covid 19 shine a light, just hope people keep it up.
Buckwheat Honey Eh the country isn’t gonna change and you know it just like I do. Its been years and not a single thing has changed still stuck with the same stuff. The billionaires continue to make laws that help them and just leave the normal middle class citizens to suffer. If we try to change laws then the lobbyists come in from every front and fight you.
Absolutely. They are WAY too money-hungry to do otherwise.
Is it really "money-hungry" if they need that money is literally stay existing?
Archer Except they don’t. Do you know HOW MUCH professors and administration get paid at these places? It’s absolutely ridiculous. And tuition is excessively expensive for basically the same education you would get 30-40 years ago. If they want to survive, then they must adapt
@@MrJr1976 Not to mention all the money my school receives outside of tuition.
I'm more concerned about the jobs and careers that will be available whenever they graduate. After all of the madness we're facing who wants to be a college grad with large debt and no jobs insight. College tuition is too high as it is.
I would rather enlist into the military...
this is showing colleges to quit raising tuition everytime they blink
@@autobotdiva9268 I know right
@@gamerhistorian7843 That wouldn't be a bad idea at this point.
@Asha X I'm glad you still do👍😁
In 20 years this will help in the argument of : are college's as they are now necessary?
Darcspeagal Reactions why cant we just do online courses for what we need & use that for our future? Why is a college or uni degree so needed?
@@ceciliatulip
Because our parents were denied jobs they were capable because businesses are too lazy to properly interview their job applicants for skill.
Now hospitals want nurses and dental hygenists to get 4 year degrees ffs.
international students who are in the halfway or final year are the victim of the bad experience virtual class with the high tuition and no aid from the university
Why not FIX how education is right now before reopening??
Because they're too many problems with education to fix them before you reopen. I hate how universities go based on testing when some people may be smart but just don't do well on them. The way we are graded as smart honestly doesn't really show the depths of how much people really know.
Barbara Storball Exactly! Some people may be very intelligent, wise and well-educated but since grades and standardized scores seems to be the overwhelming metric to judge a student’s merits, many students who deserve a chance of admission aren’t even considered. It’s truly unfortunate!
Barbara Storball as a College student I totally agree, I usually get test anxiety, I do well with class work but test seems like a strain for me.
If my college isn't open this fall I don't think I will take online classes I'll work and save up some money for that semester and get my own place in the winter. The housing market may fall enough for me to get a mortgage.
Ant Circus Same if my college is not open then I’m planning to work for that semester to save money.
The downside with mortgages being lower if you have higher property taxes as results.
smart. And interest rates are at an all time low
I rather just cheat.
Classes won’t reopen in the winter, corona is gonna resurge again
Even if the colleges do initially open, there's still the likely possibility that colleges will eventually make all of the classes online again at some point just like this semester. Honestly, I'll just take a break from college until the coronavirus pandemic is finally over.
Yeah I’m predicting we all get sent home after thanksgiving break, but at that point, there’s hardly any school left anyway. Time will tell
Universities: We are planning to open for the Fall semester with 18-22 yr olds on campus.
COVID-19: See y'all on campus!!!
HAHAHHAHA
Yoooo 😂😂😂
good thing the ages of those attending colleges are among the least affected group
Us college kids don't rly care abiut corona tbh
Tuition should be prorated if we are going to do online classes. Every college/university should feel ashamed if they’re charging students 100% when we’re not seeing anything with what we paid for
Edit: to the professors that are tenured and only care about their paychecks plus not the students success in the class can be shown the door.
G Atencio but the sad truth is they won’t do that. they use the excuse of “you’re still getting a high quality education just online” which is BS. they need the money and are already expecting enrollment drops now so most colleges won’t decrease tuition if they know they’re already not hitting their targets. they will do everything in their power to be on campus in the fall or else students will take a gap year of defer a semester, and i’m one of them
@@ari.3455 Your right it is tough to charge people those prices. But, in their defense if not the colleges might shut down. I am hopeful mine won't, but it is a real possibility for many.
@@ari.3455 I hate that. My college keeps wanting to tell us that their online classes are award winning. While I'm over here in a class where the professor literally hardly speaks with us
One of my professor is not even answering the emails and have only assigned one essay and nothing else . Have no idea how I am supposed to pass .
tenten here My professor put all the notes online and had us do a paper. I had the class 3 times a week and got the work done for that week in an hour. It’s bs, and no it’s not a writing class, it’s abnormal Psychology. They just don’t care.
my teachers just search up youtube videos and give it to us...
My daughter is a HS senior and is SO sad about possibly not starting in the fall.
Giuseppina Sanger ..take a year break...stay home...grow...do some research and figure out what she really wants to do...then be rejuvenated for college in 16 months.... Save some money...take a breather... If out of state...go move there and get in.state residency
Craig Mintzlaff this is great advice I had no idea what I wanted to study before my gap year I would have just wasted money
HS senior here. Worst case scenario: Just have your daughter delay college until the coronavirus pandemic is finally over. Not the ideal solution obviously, but what else can we do?
So if we're home for a year and I'm a sophomore in high school it would mean essentially next time I'm actually in school is when I'm a senior
I'd take all junior courses online if that happens
I currently take online classes now because my school closed. These aren’t worth it and not what I paid for. Most professors don’t know how to navigate the internet and inline classes successfully. I also am not learning anything because I’m just reading a book and answering questions
Legit thank you , I had to drop 2 classes because of this. I can’t learn personally if I’m not physically there sadly, and the two classes I dropped from was due to the professor not knowing how to navigate the internet too well and it just became stressful.
annual tuition?
Most likely be online, don’t join they just want your money, just wait.
As a Purdue University student, I must say that online classes are not worth it. However, by opening campuses during the fall, we will be putting hundreds, if not thousands, of lives at risk. Keep in mind that the spread of the virus will only keep rising from now on.
Victor Giacoman, I didn't know Purdue was a Liberal breeding-ground. Nice they are teaching you that the virus will only keep rising, good way to shutter the place - but then their jobs are gone. Doesn't make sense!

FINALLY. Make it normal to take a gap year/semester after high school to figure out what you wnna do
@JONES True, but people should also work part time during that period
@JONES Either way, the worse option is going to college blind and taking out debt, community college is another option to start
@JONES What makes you say that? Going to community college for me helped me get into a 4 year school I wouldn't have gotten in right out of high school. Also saved a lot of money too.
it’s better to stay in the groove of school. especially as a teenager.

Oh no did someone get addicted to absurdly high tuition rates 🥺?

If all schools go online only in the fall that screws over art majors who require studio based classes, and lab based students.
All school should be online and reduce tuition 70%. Help lower cost and prevent school violence shootings.
Andrew Pham preach that would be lit. Also allow students to graduate at your own pace!
@@Habibeastt graduating at your own pace is not always doable depends on where you going what type of schooling you're doing. Plus today a lot of people have the attention span of a 5 year olds.

They just want money they can obviously stay open virtually but they want money from those that stay on campus and they could reduce the price they just money hungry
I wish they would make a decision. It’s really hard to plan for the fall, housing etc when they prolong the decision.
It’s time for a new education system anyway what a money scam
Colleges aren’t affordable for the most part regardless unless you stay in state.
Don’t go! I just graduated from college with a 125k in student debt and no job. Learn from my mistake.
Rob. Vent major and college?
😱
We need high school and college sports. There are to many kids out there relying on scholarships. These kids in the lower income areas who are really good at sports are relying on a full ride scholarship. If there is no school and no sports those kids futures will be RUINED!
Not really. If this social distancing keeps up that means no official practices or games which means everyone has to practice on their own. A lot of players right now aren’t working on their game so those that do are going to be way ahead of the rest if they train hard and work on every aspect of their game until they can play again or tryout.
@@MrRainbowSprinkles some kids need that last year of high school to get noticed. Or that last year of college to get noticed for the pros. If this was last year and there wasnt a 2019 season, Joe Burrow would be a 5-7 round pick. What he was ranked going into the 2019 season.
🤷🏻♀️
Juliette Zea What did you that for-
I don't see college sports coming back anytime soon. Especially with covid 19 cases on the rise... it's not safe at all. Buckle up because I have a feeling this is only the beginning of this pandemic. With states opening up too early.... a 2nd wave is bound to happen.
i don’t actually mind online however i have some lab classes for this fall so that will be better in person
Honestly this semester has been so nice for me. It feel very similar to in class classes. I also like how the lectures now are recorded so you can rewatch them as many times as you like. I'm doing alot better in my classes now. If fall semester is online still take it guys. It will be a different experience and who knows you might like it like how I like it. Tuition is also less now which is good cause we can all save some money too.
And also you don't have to worry about the stress of moving, traffic, missing classes due to illness....
Tuition is not less for uc Davis :(
cha rin how much is uc Davis tuition?
Jotham $15000 a year
Jotham they even sent an email to all students tuition and fees are set in price for the year even if online.. those greedy animals
Think of all the income they are losing from room and board. They might need a loan. Are students getting refunds for the room and board they paid for but cannot use?
I go to a private school on the east coast. We were given a reimbursement for a portion of our room and board.
@@mp_seahorse9207 : I am glad you got the reimbursement. I know that friends of mine here in the Midwest (Illinois, Iowa, Missouri) have not gotten that. Students/parents should get it.
@@mp_seahorse9207 the college I go to offered a refund for those who live in the dorms if they moved out before a certain date. And that was to be used as a credit for next year whether it be room and board or just a meal plan on campus.
They do if it’s housing from the campus but a majority of ppl who have housing in apartments off campus still have to pay their leases rip
There’s a disconnect with everything done virtually.
Take classes at local community colleges it’s so much more cheap when everything is going to be online anyways and it’s the same content. Universities can’t lower there cost that much and the benefits aren’t worth the cost

@Zlar Vixen so what are people supposed to do? Get minimum wage paying jobs for the rest of life??
If only most employers these days thought the same way. Having a college degree on that resume gives you a slight edge because as a superficial and shallow society, we’ve been convinced that being college-educated somehow makes you more qualified for a position than a non college educated prospect. “College degree” is listed as a requirement for every white collar job now. In my opinion any line of work outside of the STEMs should never ever require a degree as part of the qualifications.
@Zlar Vixen Not really, in 20 years yeah probably, but accounting and finance are much needed. Algorithms are only designed to a certain degree, but humans have no limitations and we have reasoning.
@Zlar Vixen You can't replace doctors, therapists ect... these are not just jobs, they are what keeps humans mental and physical health alive for many. The only job I don't see lasting is Pharmacists since it's not really hard to have it automated.
someones gotta work the lower wage jobs
The final decision should be made by their respective governors
I've read so many reports of the majority of students being willing to continue with online classes. Who?? So many people I talk to, myself included, are insanely depressed and cannot wait for the online semester to end. If classes are online again, either take it from a community college or take the emestser off. This just isn't the same
I think the internet makes the type of you're learning either easy or boring. Such as learning math or science online is not as easy as some may think
@@barbarastorball2117 that's definitely true about it being boring. I've talked to kids from a lot of different areas and the general consensus is that even when professors are technologically capable, the atmosphere of in-person classes completely vanishes.

All dorms should be made single rooms with no extra charge to the students. You can't social distance in a dorm room with a roommate. I know my University has more than enough space with almost half of all dorm rooms empty before Coronavirus

Being that I do want to attend college, I’m taking a gap year because I don’t see the worth in paying for something that I didn’t ask for and I wanted a full college experience not sit behind a computer. I think waiting a year is the best option.
Music Lover it is understandable why you want to take a gap year, especially with the cost of tuition.
It's definitely a hard decision. The issue is there aren't aren't viable options as an alternative. You cant travel in hostels and work around the world because borders are closed. You also can't really start working locally either because there is no work.
The best thing to do is to go to a community college and transfer to a 4 year institution. It saves a lot of money, if your worried financially.
Darth Maul I wasn’t worried financially because my parents had a college fund saved for me since I was a baby, also the fact that I got a full scholarship for my university, it’s that I wanted to have the full college experience not treat it like homeschooling.
Music Lover understandable.

Fall semester might be online next semester , it’s frustrating because when your a full time student and in the spring go from campus learning to online made me hate it so much because I hate learning online. This makes myself wanna take less classes and not be full time because of the learning experience. I know many students feel the same way.
Where’s the comment section? I had nothing read as the video played
I was considering taking a gap year, but I’m getting 12,000 in financial aid. So I would only need to pay 2,000 for a UC college. It’s about the same as community college.
Don't ask me to pay thousands a year and also say virtual classes are the only option...
My daughter is wrapping up her freshman year at UI and is currently debating if she’ll be taking a gap year for her sophomore year because Iowa has failed to do much of anything to stop the spread. 😔
Mimi Hdez I’ve heard of American college students applying or transferring to colleges in Europe. Depending on which country that student goes to, tuition is basically free. Maybe your daughter can get a degree from abroad.

I go to community college, but honestly the quality of education here is the same at most Universities (especially for STEM courses) but of course it's way cheaper.I just hate the stigma surrounding CC and how going to a top-tiered University is associated with privilege and prestige. This event will truly revolutionize admissions and college infrastructures (like c'mon, it's not fair having a single year of not requiring SAT/ACT exams and it's ALSO not fair for students to pay the SAME amount of tuition for online classes that are subpar)
kat l. I went to cc and it’s the best decision I ever made. I personally liked it although I hated the stigma surrounding it and the lack of school pride (at least at mine). I transferred to university last fall 2019 and I miss CC prices and small sized classrooms
There should be no reason for schools not to open this fall. Already with the early "Summer Vacation" kids are withdrawing from socializing, not seeing their friends, not going outside to play, and of course the burden on parents who need to work, (daycare) and those who don't (caring for kids 24/7). Not to mention my kids would have been riding their bikes to school and getting some exercise, at least.
Bad enough they won't even have normal grad ceremonies, and now summer events are cancelled. Time to RE-OPEN AMERICA!
i wonder how the GAP year is going to effect the amount of seats available for the next high school graduates.

My college has an online program which is THOUSANDS cheaper than our normal tuition. I find it ridiculous that I still have to pay 12k a semester (not including meal plan or housing) when they’re paying 4K even though we’re being taught the same way. It depends on the college

I know song campuses are trying to offer some classes in person but with everyone staying the virus May return back in the fall, it looks like virtual classes is the way it will be.
Can't expect to charge the same rate for a virtual experience. That's just not gonna happen. I'd recommend all seniors to take a gap year.

One of my biggest regrets was not taking a gap year after high school. It's unfortunate that many are forced to make this choice, but I believe that it will benefit some of these young adults. Sometimes what you need isn't what you want.
yeah paying full price for suboptimal online classes is not good
Out of State students better be charged remote tuition if schools go online or else time to drop.
There are so many things they can do besides going fully online. First of all, make every single class be offered online, as in have the option to be taken online. This will allow international students and immunocompromised students to continue their education safely. It’s not hard to share a screen with a zoom section of the class. Then, make larger classes (let’s say 30 or more) online and smaller classes/classes that require being face-to-face be in the normal classroom setting, with masks and social distancing. Then, allow at risk older professors to teach from home if they’d like, eliminating their risk. Finally, require masks when walking around campus and limit groups at lunch tables and stuff to 10. The mental health risks, poor quality of education, and loss of profits are not worth going fully online for. Those who are willing to risk it can go and those who are afraid will have an online option for every class. Bottom line is college students are at much less of a risk than the rest of the population. If we incorporated these measures, the infection rate would be near 0. If they suspect a case is on campus, campus lockdown and contact tracing. It’d be easier to contact trace with a smaller population anyway, unlike the US. They could even not allow people who live on-campus to go home for a bit, so it’s not spread to families. Online schools do not offer near the same level of quality as in-person classes. Hybrid is the best play for everyone involved. Sincerely, a college student.
this is exactly what my college is planning to do in the fall along with testing and i think it’s a great method. if people wish to stay home and take classes online, so be it but don’t make it mandatory for everyone because not everyone learns well online. until a vaccine comes out next year at the earliest, the virus will be around so we need to manage it in a smart way. thank you for commenting this. this is the first comment i saw that was properly thought out and wasn’t too pessimistic yet too optimistic.
ariyah I wish people would listen to the actual college students
What about trade schools? What if you want to be a skilled worker and make more money?
If I am required to wear a mask in class...I don’t want to go. I’d rather take the class online in the comfort of my home without the worry. I’m trying to imagine sitting through an entire lecture NOT worrying about when the next wave is coming
Atleast a year is required to open everything acc.to me.
College isn't worth the Life Cost as well as The Online Classes.
This Year is pretty much Doomed.
If I'm going to work in my factory with 3000 + employees then these schools and universities need to open. It's not lethal to students. Wear masks, if your sick dont go to school, get tested. Sports need to resume there are ALOT of kids who are relying on scholarships. It will ruin alot of kids futures if they cant play sports.
The problem with that scenario is liability. Most colleges rather not be liable for the possible chance of 1 of millions kids possibly dying to it. Yes, the likelihood of that is lower but it will still happen since that is just how statistics work. At that point, families would sue even harder with that fact of a child’s death being on the line. It’s not worth the hassle is probably what they assume now.
@@jacelocke4345 the kids who are at most risk should do online classes. From what we know no kids have died from the virus unless they've had serious health issues.
University is not essential but the production of goods is when it come to survival and the economy. 100 years ago it was pretty much only the 1 percent that went to college. There’s a reason why schools were one of the first things to be closed when this all started
It's about cutting non essential activity to save life's and you can spread a disease long before you have symptoms
@@jefftodd7683 you say kids are not at risk from getting this virus... so what if they live with their parents or grandparents? you can't be that selfish to only think about the students and not their family members....not every student lives in a dorm without their parents and grandparents you know.
In the UK it seems like either all classes will be online or most
I don't think they will do it all online unless the government orders them to because colleges need the money. They will probably do a mix of online and in-person so they can have the students live in residence and won't have to change tuition costs. Classes will likely be smaller, with larger lectures online. I think masks will be required, and we'll have to socially isolate as much as possible. I don't know what they're going to do about dining halls. Maybe block out the times people can eat, or students will have to take the meals to their dorms. No crowds at football games, no parties, no school events etc. If you have the option of starting in January or taking a gap year, it honestly sounds like a good idea. Even if colleges open in the fall, it will not be the same. You're not gonna get your money's worth. In terms of academics, networking, and socially too. It's an unfair and sucky situation.
@messiah I agree with the fact you could watch online classes for free on youtube. However, as far as I know youtube won't print out your degree. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I already registered for the online version of my needed classes.
I already registered for the fall but if John Jay won’t open this fall im not gonna go I’ll talk to my counselor to drop my whole schedule 🤷♂️ I’m no crediting most of my classes as the professors have no communication except drop a load of work
Im an international student and plan on deferring til next Fall. I’m not paying all that money to stay in my house and look at my phone😒
One class I am taking is TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY WORTHLESS before and after the shutdown.
My teacher only offers this class every OTHER semester and he is only staff..........he is not a teacher and yet he is teaching this class............money down the drain and whats worse its a technical theater class.
Ugh.
Online class just joke there solution of every problem, can't off the college in long term
I pray every second for college to start again in person this August!
Yes and that a vaccine will be available come late summer
Yeah I'm gonna be a graduated high school senior this year, this is such an unfortunate time to be preparing for college
@@mikelbaesc8665 that's not going to happen, and that's not me being pessimistic. You won't see a vaccine until atleast late next spring. This is because a vaccine will not get approved until the negative "long-term" effects have been observed (8-10 months of observation).
@@wrin9515 Vaccines typically take decades until all details and side effects are known. And plus your immune system should be able to fight a virus.

I’m enrolled in one online class this summer at my university and I’m still being charged hundreds for recreation fees, green fees, transportation fees, campus health fees, and a bunch of others when I won’t even be leaving my apartment! I’m being forced to pay for the full college experience but I won’t even be using any of these services since classes are online and most campus departments are closed for the summer. This is a scam :/
As college students we are seen as ADULTS. In America we have FREEDOM and RIGHTS. As adults we should have the FREEDOM to choose whether or not we want to attend in-person classes or not. If we want to live on campus or not.
They are afraid because we won't be giving them our money smh
If classes are online then I’d rather transfer to a community college for a year than pay thousands of dollars for tuition with no real reason. Colleges need to significantly reduce tuition because why would I pay full price when I could just go to an online school and get the same experience for a significantly cheaper amount
Uhhhh what is with that people of color comment..? 😳
Carmen Wright ya that was a bit uncalled for. First year and lower income is one thing...but colored...? Wowwww lady...
Terrence Manzon she was and it’s a true statistic
Let them close for at least one year. We have a golden opportunity to fix and restructure the education system.
I don’t care if they reopen or not. All I care about is the refund money they need to give us if certain things will be closed on campus.
I know a vast majority of states closed schools for the rest of the year.
I’m the class of 2020, we already lost graduation and I’ll be damned if we lose our chance to go to uni too.
Abigale So you want schools to open?
felt😔
then u will be damned, Abigale, because u can't control Corona or the economic affects of the pandemic
Thank god I graduated lol 👨🏿🎓
Will Colleges Reopen In The Fall AND lower tuition for students paying for on campus classes
My college is still online in Fall
Man these colleges are going to lose ALOT of money. Most people perfer in person classes myself included. These College students are going to switch from big universities to community colleges.
The lady on the left does not want to be there
