How can you not love Tim O'Brien? One of the most talented guys in the business. He can fiddle while singing three part harmony, playing the mandolin, mandocello and the guitar, all at once. Well almost. He can play and sing anything. Always great in concert. and he's a genuinely nice guy who doesn't give you the "star treatment". Great guy.
I agree, Mando Grizz. Tim O'Brien is at the top of my favorite musician list. He's been around a long time and he seems to work CONSTANTLY. I catch him in concert every chance I get and I have every. Single. One. Of. His. CDs. Superlative!
Tim has been a long time top talent in my book. Fantastic mandolin player, singer, fiddler, zouk, guitar....did I miss anything? Oh yeah, met him a few times and humble and funny too!
Tim is a wonder, I was once at a Fiddle workshop where the great cajun fiddler Michael Doucet was teaching, and spied Tim in the audience. Thereafter, for each point Michael made, he would ask good-naturedly, "is that right,Tim?" Affection and respect is what Tim engenders.
Been moving stuff around - came across an old birthday card from my daughter Amy. I would crawl over broken glass to clean Tim O'Brian's shoes with my best T-shirt.
I got your letter in the mail Throwin' off my sense of scale I felt you touch my heart today But the postmark says you’re far away Across the fields and desserts wide The mountains in the western sky Out where the sun sets on the sea So very far away from me Shadows fall upon my hand Movin' west across the land You’re only half way through your day When I put my dinner dish away As lonely as I’ve ever been I long to hear your voice again So I called you just to let you know I miss you and I love you so The farther I go down the track The more time I spend lookin back I wander through my memories More precious now than gold to me I close my eyes and I recall When I was young and you were small You know I miss those times back then But today you brought them back again I got your letter in the mail Throwin off my sense of scale It made me happy it made me sad To read those words “I love you dad

Love this song by. Tim ó Brien
Tim is another Doc Watson, a Norman Blake, another Earl Scruggs, another Dan Crary, in other words, the very best!
Lovely song.. Great musicians, and i miss my dad..
Very moving.
I've kept many of the cards from my mom. I miss her every day....
Stumbled on this by accidentally but this is a great discovery. :)
I did, too, Rhea. Wonderful song and sentiment. Real special, because I lost my own dad in '72 and I still miss him.
Been moving stuff around - came across an old birthday card from my daughter Amy. I would crawl over broken glass to clean Tim O'Brian's shoes with my best T-shirt.
Very touching!

Nice looking/sounding Irish Bouzouki, I would enjoy hearing more people showing their hand on a bouzouki.
We need session 7 doing NOW. As in PLEASE!
Very athmospheric! And a perfect view outside the window :-)
Charlie Landsborough sang one of his songs and said to listen to him.
Glad he did.
that's really lovely...
Ah-h! A Trans Atlantic Session I'd not yet seen.
I got your letter in the mail
Throwin' off my sense of scale
I felt you touch my heart today
But the postmark says you’re far away
Across the fields and desserts wide
The mountains in the western sky
Out where the sun sets on the sea
So very far away from me
Shadows fall upon my hand
Movin' west across the land
You’re only half way through your day
When I put my dinner dish away
As lonely as I’ve ever been
I long to hear your voice again
So I called you just to let you know
I miss you and I love you so
The farther I go down the track
The more time I spend lookin back
I wander through my memories
More precious now than gold to me
I close my eyes and I recall
When I was young and you were small
You know I miss those times back then
But today you brought them back again
I got your letter in the mail
Throwin off my sense of scale
It made me happy it made me sad
To read those words “I love you dad
Thank god you were here. Tim's singing is nearly unintelligible.
Love me some Tim O, looking a little like the red headed step child with the beard :)
...I have to thank Tim for writing 'Brother Wind'. It was about my life. I didn't know he knew me....
