    Great vid. I should also point out that Google Maps now provides fuel prices. 😀😀😀 If you have a route in and add a deviation for fuel it tells you the price and the amount of time it's off of your route.

    Been using the app for almost 5 years and have saved a ton of money along the way. Having a diesel vehicle it was not always easy to find a station in certain areas but with the app it made traveling a breeze. Glad they incorporated a cash or credit price as I always charge my fuel purchases to track my annual fuel cost, so knowing the price at the pump using a charge card has been important to me. Keep up the great videos, and Happy Holidays!

    Used Gas Buddy in FL last year. Was sitting at a station and Gas Buddy indicated diesel was about 30 cents below what it was and it said it was updated 5 minutes before. So at least then, it wasn't reliable.

    I've used this app for RVing and it's great! It was even better yesterday when I inadvertently forgot to fuel up my car before my daily 600km of driving for work and my fuel light came on and not a fuel station in sight. Hey wait, GasBuddy... and suddenly I could relax knowing a gas station was just around the corner.

    As always very enjoyable and entertaining. And informative and educational. You guys are just fun above anything else. Oh about the app; been using the iOS version for the last year or so since we got Ruby and it's great for around town too. I like the Favorites function. I can load the stations that I frequent and compare the prices. Figure out if it's really worth taking the time to drive to Burien and go there. People should know that interacting with the app is the way that it knows current prices so be prepared to do that.

    With an F250 diesel and an International series Airstream, my own gas saving tip is simply to keep cruising speeds lower. On the flats, I've calculated about a 2MPG difference between towing at 55 vs 60 and another 2MPG difference between 60 and 65.

    Personally, I prefer Gas Guru. I've used both and because Gas Buddy is crowdsourced, I've sometimes found prices to be outdated. Gas Guru uses the Oil Price Information Service database which updates daily. Not that it isn't sometimes wrong, but I've found it to me more accurate than Gas Buddy overall. Regardless, both are super useful apps. Thanks for the great videos. Very much enjoy your channel!

    • @slimbeaux
      @slimbeaux 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have found that too but usually out in the country. I am very conscientious about updating the prices every time I fill up. Gas Buddy has the time when it was updated too so if it's 3 weeks out it just might not be spot on. I will try Gas Guru and see what it's like. Thanks for the tip!

    If you're traveling near a Publix grocery (south east US) check their flyer for a coupon which allows you to purchase a $50 gas card for $40.
    They have Shell and Rally. You are supposed to buy $50 in groceries, so I get it when I'm stocking up.
    That's a 20% savings on gas! Also good inside for snacks etc.
    The other benefit is you needn't worry about card skimmers or any personal information compromised. Put the card in, and it pumps up to $50 worth of gas.
    Somehow it keeps track of the balance so you use every penny. I keep a couple on standby.

    Another simple way to save fuel is to shut off your engine when not needed. Some diesel owners (and others) still think that they need a long warmup time, but that's no longer true (I'm not talking about warming up your vehicle in the winter). How many times have you seen RVs and trucks idling their diesels for long periods of time?

    I will look into the fuel app thanks. However something that recently happened to me and is something you didn't touch on probably because you have a diesel .
    My tow vehicle is a gas motor 2015 chevy express 3500 6.0 litre . Pulled our 288 jayco eagle from Sacramento area to Carmel by the sea and used just over 3/4 tank of 30 gal . That was on premium fuel from chevron ,then before driving back filled up wherever I could with regular fuel and almost ran out 20 miles from home taking same route back. When filled it took 28.8 .sweating bullits all the way there.
    I always write down my fill ups did the math 9.7 mpg with premium and 8.5 with regular . I will be using premium when towing from now on.

  • @tonygawel9
    @tonygawel9 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    It does work, but is not always accurate. My experience is that it often reports a price is based on you purchasing a carwash, which can skew the price of the fuel. I wish there was a setting to filter this out. Thanks for the videos keep them up.

    Hello Sean. In regards to the poor cold start issues Seemore suffers, have you watched the video that Powerstrokehelp.com has posted in the last few days on oil effects in diesel engines and changing temperatures. You might find this video usefull with the colder temps of winter on our doorsteps.
    I realize that Seemore might have fuel injector issues as well. Powerstrokehelp.com covers the 6.0 liter Ford motor injector issues and discusses that high pressure oil not "high pressure fuel" is how they function. When oil viscosity increases due to high temperatures, the high pressure oil pump is unable to flow the oil to cause the injectors to function properly.
    For this reason, Bill installed a block heater on our 6.0 liter Ford motor which we use with great success starting in the mornings here in Northern Nevada with the temps below freezing. Attempting to start the engine using the glow plugs alone requires multiple starts and long warm ups before driving out of our driveway. With the block heater, the engine coolant and engine oil temps run around 100 degrees at start up and does not require warm ups. I hope you find this helpful.

It has information on walmarts, BLM lands, Elk, City parks, Private parks, Forest and National parks, Corps, bridge clearances, the list goes on and on with just about anything you could want. I think I paid $10 for the app and it was money well spent. Found the BLM west of Tuscon with this app.

      Campendium is my go to site. Crowdsourced (thanks campyvansters; great word), so it is constantly being updated. Good old Google works good, and RVParkReviews for the obvious.

    My previous experience with Gas Buddy was that the pricing often was inaccurate -- sometimes way off. That kind of takes away the advantage and adds frustration when you think you're getting a good deal.

      We've had pretty good luck with pricing, but it's all dependent on users making frequent and accurate reports.

    Be careful with cheap diesel especially from Mom & Pop stores. No idea how long it's been in the tank and what quality it is. Water in diesel is catastrophic to high pressure fuel pumps.

    Noticed a green flag "cash" on your phone next to a station. I know some stations charge more for using credit. When traveling do you carry cash for these occasions or do you rely on atm s or do you just avoid them? I would imagine a 10,000 mile or more trip you're going to need some cash at some point. Thanks

    We really enjoy your channel. Keep up the good work. I believe your calculations were a bit off on the fuel $70 canadian = $52.50 US DOLLAR. Hopefully this wasn't covered already.

    Has an auxiliary tank or larger capacity fuel tank ever been in the dreams for Seemore? Pairing more fuel with Gas Buddy could really add up to some savings.
    Btw you put 28 gallons in on one fill up? Errr...don't the shortbeds only have 28 gallon tanks?

    Been using Gas Buddy for almost a decade, since its inception. It was just a website then (gasbuddy.com) where you'd check/enter the info, way before smart phones, apps, and social media. The website now directs you to state-specific sites depending on your zip code, such as IllinoisGasPrices.com for me. The information on Gas Buddy is crowdsourced and depends on users to update the prices accurately, and you earn "points" for submissions that can win you gas cards and other prizes. No I don't work for them, I just love the tool! ;)

      That is near the world famous Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah! It's where all of the auto manufacturers test the speed limits of their new cars.

    BC gas prices are gross.. convert litres to a US gallon it's about $5.00 CDN now (4.5 x $1.20 CDN) and at this times it's a bit lower than average.. $1.30 is more normal and that's in populated areas.. out in remote areas it's much more

      Indeed, what's really scary about the Alaska Highway are the fuel prices in BC and Yukon! :D

    Thanks Sean! But hold on a minute; I like to see videos from your Airstream. What's with this "looks like you're in a house" background? Huh? Huh? Y'all not supposed to be in ary house!

      haha Taka, we are like most RV owners in that we have a brick-and-mortar home, and use our RV for camping and travel. We are "seasonal fulltimers" who typically fulltime in our Airstream for a portion of the year (summer/autumn). You know, some of our most popular RV travel videos (watch "The Loloho Show") have been shot in our home studio. And our most popular video of all was shot on a BOAT! :O th-cam.com/video/aKcqb_Ubpbo/w-d-xo.html
