His activated charcoal needs to be crushed into a powder first. The other thing he needs to do is to alternate the materials 3-5 times in order to filter out biological agents and other smaller compounds like the newer chemical agents. While not fool proof (only a closed system is completely fool proof, and even then its iffy) it could help increase the protective agency of the mask.

am i missing something here???? u cut off the inhale hole at the top and blocked it off. then changed the original exhale hole on the front to an inhale hole with the filter... now u have no exhale hole.... so the mask dosnt work at all.......
It does work however you risk inhaling too much CO2 because there's no way for "used up" air to escape the mask other than the filter. So that CO2 will stay in the filter after you exhale and then be inhaled again, and again, and again, which can kill you. Some older masks didn't have exhale valves because they were usually civilian and used for evacuation so not for a long period of time.
AS a former service man who worked with NBC and similar in employment, great but, the one way valve should have been left and just tap a 40mm for your filters in case you run across reg. filters, place a secondary filter cover over said one way valve, after you spend hours in it or it fills with condensation sweat or clouds up in firefight, learn to make better than those $200+ models, and learn how to use these... technologies
Because you cant buy an "actual" gas mask for less than $20. At least not one anywhere close to the same quality. You could buy a few paper dust masks though, if that's what you mean.
Mechanical Ninjineer yes you can. rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F263415407418 it has an asbestos filter but for an extra 15 bucks you can get a NBC filter without asbestos and those filters last hours. You could use the asbestos one too in an emergency
Mechanical Ninjineer we know for a fact it has asbestos but if the filter isn't damaged it will work and probably not leak and even if it does short term asbestos exposure is way less serious than most gasses that you would need a mask for.
I have the gd5 but this have a bigger lense to look out from. With the gd5 we could use the Poland filter. It's like $15 on eBay. But I'm going to make your diy gas mask. Much more view to see.
That would be awesome! I'm thinking about doing this for Arkansas if my personal one works out. I'm tired of watching everyone there be fired upon. 99% of us have been peaceful with a clear distinction between those who want to escalate and those who don't. I totally understand why people are engaging in less peaceful behaviours. Our local black leaders of the movement call for peaceful protests for now, so that's what we're trying to help them enforce. But they fire on the peaceful people anyway and we need some gas masks.
My suggestion is that the activated charcoal sould have been crushed lightly, because the center of the pellet is useless oherwise and is wasted overall great video
You can very well get a “military grade” gas mask for waaay less than a couple hundreds. Get ANY Chinese mask for example, plus like 10 to 20 dollars per regular Nato filters, BOOM perfectly working, new gas mask.
this guy didn't make one, but i was thinking that the top part from the scuba mask that he took off and sealed up may be made to be a one way valve so that you could exhale through it
Wrong connector for shtf, you should put a pet bottle cap on the intake and use 600ml pet bottles, they are very easy to manufacture and have a lot more air travel and surface area in the lightest package possible.
I mean you can buy a GP5 gas mask for roughly £10 and then a new modern filter for £10 so you could buy a real mask with a working filter cheaper. Still a great video though.
@@ItsSamHussey I forgot to mention that it's according to the location. Sorry for the misclassification. Here in Malaysia, TF-1 is the cheapest. Cheaper than a typical 3m respirator.
I’m thinking about filling the mask’s tube with granules of activated charcoal(used in aquarium filters) and some wadding and making 2 holes on the walls in the internal bottom of the tube to join all the 3 sections of the tube and use them as “air in”, and to effectively make the tube an actual reusable antigas filter. And maybe also use part of a vacuum cleaner’s sack (which usually block particles as little as 30 micron) to seal the top. Would it be good?
1:48 you shouldnt have done that. just reverse the valve to make it an intake valve. and then make the intake at the top your exhale valve. also to increase efficiency, crush the grains of charcoal. and your particle layers should be a bit thicker and/or made from M3's particle filters. you can get packs of them from walmart
Ways to make this better: keep the exhale valve and add the filter above it or beside it or use a hose, make a rubber disk and make an intake valve to double the filter lifetime, this will cost more but it will work way better. I can also explain why he smelled the aerosols faintly: he used cotten pads but you can buy 3m particulate filter of amazon pretty cheap they are in the shape of standard 3m respirator filters but cotten packed pads that can be cut to fit, cheap and effective but i would reccomend getting a cheap gas mask if your dealing with tear gas or anything or in a country with chemical warfare threats
5:33 looks like DEET bug repellent.... thats the good stuff. lol I got my finnish gas mask... I think they are still fairly cheap too. but I might would have flipped the "exhale" valve so you only get intake through the filter... then some sort of cobbled together valve for exhale gasses.

David Kermes He has to make the mask more fashionable. I saw a similar video where a prepper used that same snorkel device, but he instead used the snorkel valve. It looked really weird... and honestly it probably would not have been that much more effective than this design.
if you’re talking about CHKadels or BUDK from the United states they list them as Polish MP5s but they’re actually a French ARFA. you can tell the difference easily because the french have holes in the voice diaphragm not the front and the Polish have circular lines
Hello I am somebody that know quite a lot about this after all I am an enthusiast, I just wanted to mention that your claims are not quite accurate, the mask I am sue could stop s certain amount of partials, but for the types of gas that are poisonous you often don't need to breath in that much, but anyway an exultant way to help make your gas mask better is if you either make an attachment on your mask for a real filter or grind up the charcoal pellets into a something resembling sugar so that it will be able to stop more, but anyway great vid nun the less
I would like to make one, probably already made, complaint in that you shouldn't have painted the mount before gluing it in place, as that creates a point where it can fail very easily
Buy an Israeli 4a1 for $40, then go to a surplus store and buy an in date filter for another $20-$30. That will protect you from everything between tear gas to phosgene gas. If you don't have money for that you have more important problems.
I saw your video because I am trying to make a mask for the corona virus. However I don't get your solution at all. You sealed the upper exhausts and breath in through the lower exaust. Where will the air go now? Back through the filter? This is not how gas masks, respirators or any masks work at all.
Emergency only. I'd say CS (military style tear gas), and some larger nerve agents are what its designed to protect against. It's not for long term use, so it should be used exclusively to GTFO of the area.
Here's the thing. Your lungs aren't that big and the mask has pretty good volume just inside the shield alone. Do you know what that means? It means that you'll continue breathing an increasing amount of CO2 and you'll just get light-headed before you eventually pass out and die on the corner all for just so you can breathe through OC without coughing. Next time don't remove the exhale valve. They are there for a reason. And, wash the carbon pellets with dechlorinated water. You don't want to inhale that nasty dust. Overall good idea though.
What if we have no snorkling mask....can you sir make a video of diy and around the house things like plastic bottles....we really need your help....FROM PHILIPPINES
I’m just going to throw these two things out there, 1 ninjanear might have been able to smell the stuff he sprayed in the trash can because he may have not had a proper seal on the mask because of his beard. 2 military grade actually is worse than civil stuff, go civilian any time you can because it’s better.
Cyborg2101 that is the most retarded thing I have ever heard, nearly all civilian masks you can get that even come to close to even cold war military gas masks would be a fireman's air supplying respirator
Cyborg2101 no but I have experience with military gas masks and civilian ones. And I know a few people from the military and I know what gas mask they use. Civilian gas masks are a rip off 90% of the time because surplus military gas masks tend to be cheaper and higher quality than a civilian gas mask. And I garuntee that there is no civilian gas mask that you could show me that is better than a cheaper surplus military mask.(except maybe the isreali 4a1 but many people say it's uncomfortable)
_ISO_ well as one who is in the military I can promise the military ones are not as good as civilians think. Remember the government is buying them from the lowest bidder.
you can get military and industrial gas masks for $30 fairly easy. the BEM-4gp, fm12 (depending on region) any of the cold war gas masks with an fp5 filter (gp5, shms, cm3, cm4 to name a few) finnish m61 with an adapter and a modern abekp3 is only gonna run you $25 ish. this is a waste of resources and time when theres so many better options available. its like saying heres how to make a car for only $6000, when you could just buy a car that would work better for less money. the video was interesting none the less
if something is water tight doesn't mean air tight water molecules are bigger and oxygen can get through some spaces water cant there are actually aerogel masks that use this technique to breath underwater its still being tested tho
Din't need to destroy the facepiece or go to all that trouble. Just plug the exhalation channels at the top, and modify the air tube to take the filter.
Unused? I'm not sure if there really is much of a limit as long as its sealed in an air tight container. But if you do use it, you'll prob want to replace it after every use, just to be safe.

@@sphinx2077 unfortunately alot of people will have to.
am i missing something here????
u cut off the inhale hole at the top and blocked it off.
then changed the original exhale hole on the front to an inhale hole with the filter...
now u have no exhale hole.... so the mask dosnt work at all.......
IT'S FANTASTIC! THIS IS A PIECE OF HOT GLUE WITH A LITTLE MASK ON IT!!!

Nah shit
Why would you wanna do this when you could by an actual gas mask for less than 20 bucks?
Because you cant buy an "actual" gas mask for less than $20. At least not one anywhere close to the same quality. You could buy a few paper dust masks though, if that's what you mean.
Mechanical Ninjineer yes you can. rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F263415407418 it has an asbestos filter but for an extra 15 bucks you can get a NBC filter without asbestos and those filters last hours. You could use the asbestos one too in an emergency
That's a GP-5. There has been some debate about weather or not the filters are safe for use.
Much more view to see.
thanks bro cause millitary gaz mask are prohibited here in france
ok guys im going to make these and send them to Minnesota
That would be awesome! I'm thinking about doing this for Arkansas if my personal one works out. I'm tired of watching everyone there be fired upon. 99% of us have been peaceful with a clear distinction between those who want to escalate and those who don't. I totally understand why people are engaging in less peaceful behaviours. Our local black leaders of the movement call for peaceful protests for now, so that's what we're trying to help them enforce. But they fire on the peaceful people anyway and we need some gas masks.
this is great, perfect for protesting in Thailand
I love how you can buy a real gas mask that will actually protect you against stuff for the same price
Eh but it’s funnier to build it
My suggestion is that the activated charcoal sould have been crushed lightly, because the center of the pellet is useless oherwise and is wasted
overall great video
My parents: Gasmasks won't help! You need hospital masks.
Me:
I heard that if you fill the inside with carbon monoxide first it helps you breathe better
lmfao
I tried it and it works!
-i have lung cancer tho-
Tested. Approved. 😵
How hard was it to breathe with the mask on?
You can very well get a “military grade” gas mask for waaay less than a couple hundreds. Get ANY Chinese mask for example, plus like 10 to 20 dollars per regular Nato filters, BOOM perfectly working, new gas mask.
Mechanical Ninjineer I don’t unterstand, what you mean.
Lil Blyat On eBay you can buy surplus Soviet or Chinese gas masks for ~20$ or less
Russian RED Medic that too.
i got a tf-1 for 18 dollars!
Him: I'll leave the links to the materials in the description
The Description:
Thanks. I'll need this for the Coronavirus.
Eric Axton I hope it woks ...imma make one myself 👍👍👍 fucking virus is fucking up my summer 😒😒😒
Useless.
It can’t filter a virus. It ain’t a long chain of proteins like tear gas is. Just follow standard safety precautions.
I'll just buy one ...thankxxx anyway
Looks like a mashup between a WW2 mask and a modern one.
haha! Yeah it kinda does!
You can use the filters used for home ac filter
Elementary question....How does the expelled air (from your lungs) get out of the mask? Thanks
this guy didn't make one, but i was thinking that the top part from the scuba mask that he took off and sealed up may be made to be a one way valve so that you could exhale through it
Double breathing the filter. No-no.
Should leave the exhaust valve intact and cut a new port for the filter.
It's even cheaper to substitute GP-5 with the Chinese TF-1. Still, it's still a good vid.
ZɪᴍUɴᴋɴᴏᴡɴ I don’t think the Chinese tf1 is cheaper because I’ve seen gp5s for sale between £5 and £15. The cheapest TF1 I’ve found costs £20
@@ItsSamHussey I forgot to mention that it's according to the location. Sorry for the misclassification. Here in Malaysia, TF-1 is the cheapest. Cheaper than a typical 3m respirator.
Ok but will this help me not breath in the tear gas at protests
I’m thinking about filling the mask’s tube with granules of activated charcoal(used in aquarium filters) and some wadding and making 2 holes on the walls in the internal bottom of the tube to join all the 3 sections of the tube and use them as “air in”, and to effectively make the tube an actual reusable antigas filter. And maybe also use part of a vacuum cleaner’s sack (which usually block particles as little as 30 micron) to seal the top. Would it be good?
If you want to block coronavirus use a HEPA vacumn filter .Has to be smaller than 1 micron
I made a filter with a tuna can for my own mask lol I am gonna see this one video is good so far

i paid 12€ for a soviet abc-mask including a filter. that thing will filter any fallout and tear gas

thank u for sharing the idea..luv this..just like that..yeah
Awesome work, man! 😊
Thanks! :D
please show us how to bolt the cup to the mask. bolts look very long. What do they screw into?
Thanks..i'm going to try and incorporate a hepa filter in there somehow
5:33 looks like DEET bug repellent.... thats the good stuff. lol
I got my finnish gas mask... I think they are still fairly cheap too.
but I might would have flipped the "exhale" valve so you only get intake through the filter... then some sort of cobbled together valve for exhale gasses.
This is good but the filter can expire within a day of wearing it so seal the filters to keep the charcoal/carbon from expireing
that air buble out part of mask perfectly fits for a gas mask but i have a another idea that part for fits too for carbon dioxide out part u put filter to under water air part and out carbon dioxide to out air part is a better idea i think btw sorry for bad english
Wouldn't it have been simpler to use a flex tube to connect a filter to the original snorkel opening?
It probably would be, but you may not get enough air once the filters are in place.
David Kermes He has to make the mask more fashionable. I saw a similar video where a prepper used that same snorkel device, but he instead used the snorkel valve. It looked really weird... and honestly it probably would not have been that much more effective than this design.
Military surplus MP5 gas masks are 30 bucks
if you’re talking about CHKadels or BUDK from the United states they list them as Polish MP5s but they’re actually a French ARFA. you can tell the difference easily because the french have holes in the voice diaphragm not the front and the Polish have circular lines
Is this one safe, dosent contain chemicals??
it would why dong ding ding don't hey
I mean the filter its self is safe its only activated charcoal doctors make people eat it in a OD situation.
You should have added a 60mm to 40mm nato adapter to screw on some military filters
*Laughs in medium sized 3M 6800 full facepiece panoramic gas mask respirator equipped with 7093 encapsulated P100 advanced particulate filters*
Here because of coronavirus
I would like to make one, probably already made, complaint in that you shouldn't have painted the mount before gluing it in place, as that creates a point where it can fail very easily
Buy an Israeli 4a1 for $40, then go to a surplus store and buy an in date filter for another $20-$30. That will protect you from everything between tear gas to phosgene gas. If you don't have money for that you have more important problems.
Really cool, one of the most unique homemade ones I saw. (Edit, just realized I already commented on this video, lol)
haha! Well thanks! I'm glad you liked it! :D
Comrade, the Chernobyl air is coming in. All we have is scuba gear and cup with screw lid.
CHERNOBYL?! YOU THINK THAT IS THE MOST OF OUR ISSUES? JUST LOOK AT CORONABLYAT CYKA!
@@acr_master5594 oyyy blyat you are right comrade
Can you still swim with this?
No, the water will come right through the filter. Unless of course you have a cap you can put on it.
Rufus no
im happy you made this, i have full blown gas mask like this now, and i can scare the hell out of my brother.
e p i c
just buy a gp5 mask on ebay... they're like $10 and you can get a polish fp5 filter for about the same
I saw your video because I am trying to make a mask for the corona virus. However I don't get your solution at all. You sealed the upper exhausts and breath in through the lower exaust. Where will the air go now? Back through the filter? This is not how gas masks, respirators or any masks work at all.
is the lense made from a type of silicone? some gasses can eat through silicone
Emergency only. I'd say CS (military style tear gas), and some larger nerve agents are what its designed to protect against. It's not for long term use, so it should be used exclusively to GTFO of the area.
Not sure how the exhale would be without a valve system. Gas masks inhale through a filter and then exhale through a valve.
Hehehe found this at the perfect time
What if we have no snorkling mask....can you sir make a video of diy and around the house things like plastic bottles....we really need your help....FROM PHILIPPINES
That's really awsome
can this prevents smoke entering your body?
Only if you put a large plug in your asshole.
How long can you wear this before you are blinded by the fogging on the lens created by the moisture from your breath?
Funny how this might come in handy now...lol
Smells like awesome!
hahaha! Thanks!
That’s so cool!
_ISO_ are you military yourself??
_ISO_ you can as a civilian get yours sized with a face mold and get it to your exact face as military we can’t we get to make so many times
wouldn't it be easier to make the snorkel attachment into the filter and leave everything else intact ?
you can get military and industrial gas masks for $30 fairly easy. the BEM-4gp, fm12 (depending on region) any of the cold war gas masks with an fp5 filter (gp5, shms, cm3, cm4 to name a few) finnish m61 with an adapter and a modern abekp3 is only gonna run you $25 ish. this is a waste of resources and time when theres so many better options available. its like saying heres how to make a car for only $6000, when you could just buy a car that would work better for less money. the video was interesting none the less
if something is water tight doesn't mean air tight water molecules are bigger and oxygen can get through some spaces water cant there are actually aerogel masks that use this technique to breath underwater its still being tested tho
Din't need to destroy the facepiece or go to all that trouble. Just plug the exhalation channels at the top, and modify the air tube to take the filter.
Lol I wanna see you test it against tear gas.
How long would the filter last?
BATMAN!!!
Unused? I'm not sure if there really is much of a limit as long as its sealed in an air tight container. But if you do use it, you'll prob want to replace it after every use, just to be safe.
Does This Filter Tear Gas?
Genius. Can you beat that Micgyver?
