Far Cry Primal is a 2016 action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It is a spin-off to Far Cry 4, and the tenth overall installment in the Far Cry series. Set during prehistoric times, the game follows the story of Takkar, who starts off as an unarmed hunter but will rise to become the leader of a tribe, using his special gift of taming animals. Primal adapts the traditional Far Cry formula to its prehistoric setting, replacing modern firearms with primitive weapons like spears, clubs, and bows and arrows, and allowing players to summon animal companions during battles. Everyday survival is a key aspect of the gameplay, as players have to watch out for both natural predators and rival tribesmen.
Far Cry Primal was released worldwide for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 23, 2016, Microsoft Windows on March 1, 2016, and for Google Stadia on May 17, 2022.[1] It received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised the concept and setting, as well as the animal-taming mechanic and world design. However, some reviewers noted that the lack of weapons players can utilize led to a repetitive gameplay design, while others felt the story and characters were not on par with the previous Far Cry games.

This game was so fun putting on the permadeath setting and survival difficulty. Having to eat stay warm and knowing any basic animal could end your whole existence really made this a crazy experience

permadeath is fun for a try of a 6-10 hour run but i would not reccomend it for the enitre game
it is great if you plan to actually only hunt or explore
but there are way too many situations especially aginst human opponents where you can lose an entire multihours run in seconds against enemies that spwan from thin air (especially at higher difficulties)
worth a try for the adrenaline rush but not for an enitre run from beginning to end of the game
boss fight in particualr are insane to do on permadeath
The plant pulp _is_ the antibacterial soap, so to speak. Loved Primal, but it was really tough to beat. But once you tamed a sabertooth, you basically get a tank.
I had so much fun playing this game until i had to fight Ull in his cave….got frustrated eventually and stopped playing the story but a still had fun just running around doing side quests

Ubisoft is top tier with the historical stuff when they try tbh, nobody is touching them on that front

This is the most underrated of the Far Cry games. Story is pretty good, but the immersion and ambient sounds really draw you into the game world. Put your headphones on, turn up the volume and lose yourself. Fantastic game.

One of my fav games to play high! Animals always scaring me, even after a couple hundred hours lol, especially sabertooths
game is fun gameplay wise but story is meh i literarly didn't understand what I was doing all I remembered was the wanna tribe was at war with udam and izila tribe but other than that the story to me felt all over the place and prolly coulda been done better like urki is a great example of random he does absolutely nothing with the story yet he's just thrown in the main story and does nothing to help out your tribe this is just my opinion but I definitely do come back to this game for its gameplay and the looks of it just story coulda been written better
This and far cry 4 are my favorite out of the series. I understood the criticism of primal, but it was a nice breath of fresh air. I remember exploring the map was so engaging and the environment was just beautiful. My biggest issue with far cry is the lack of meaningful substance,but I remember really connecting with the world and quests like no other. Also I loved the beast taming system. Honestly if they gave this game an extra year to add more content it'd be the best in the series!
Did you know they used fc4 map for primal they just took away buildings and road and re arange the trees a bit.

@@simple_playz no it was terrible, since Ubisoft franchise has been getting a lot of criticism since Assassins creed franchise were running out of ideas for an installment being redundant companion and eavesedrop quest to liberating outpost from FC4 and player fatigue was settling in.

They should make more Far Cry games in different time periods instead of the same usual stuff like fictional countries etc., with lots of guns and the same mechanics yadda yadda. How about a sci fi Far Cry, high fantasy farcry or a Far Cry: Ancient Rome, ancient China, Native Americans or something, or Far Cry zombies or horror or something IDK

This game was criminally underrated. I remember playing it over a period of 3 years on my brother’s PS4 whenever he came to visit. Every 6 months I would boot it up and play a little more until I eventually beat every possible challenge and quest. It never got old.
So you played like 5 or 6 hours each time

The best part about Primal is using the death from above takedowns just jumping off the little slopes in the terrain. The terrain in this game is so fun for death from above takedowns
Mine was the taming system especially getting the sabertooth
FC Blood Dragon is even better for that. The player character is a cyborg so he jumps much higher than normal and you can do death from above takedowns on any enemy just by jumping up onto them from level ground
If you like Primal’s setting, I highly recommend Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey where you start as an ancient human ancestor and slowly evolve over millions of years as you learn and trek across a valley. Honestly a totally unique game and a highly memorable experience.
The swinging is amazing when you get it down. Haven't gotten super far into evolution yet though

You know this is actually my favorite farcry game, I'm a real sucker for old world settings and this game was amazing at immersing me. One of the big reasons it's my favorite is because it's so different than any other farcry game ever made. And they actually did research for the language and created it based on research on ancient languages, I mean they did a damn fine job even down to the plants and animals.

This was my first Far Cry and is, honestly, still my favorite. Using the bow, spear, and club is very satisfying and I enjoyed choosing the right animal companion for how I wanted to play. The villains aren’t as interesting but I rarely got tired of the gameplay loop.

As a kid growing up with ps4 this was one of the best games I’ve ever played and experienced. I’d give u the experience on how people before us might have lived and what they faced in their life. And how far humans have come.
When I played this game, my only thought was that this game is the peak of "monkey brain".

When this game came out I thought it was highly underrated. I had a lot of fun with it especially after they added survival mode. People were so hung up that the map was the same "shape" as the Far Cry 4 map like they recycled it. Trust me, it's a totally different game than FC4.
Oh boy, I actually got Primal off a Steam sale last month and have been loving it as a "from time to time" kind of game. I love the dense forest and the sense that there's wildlife everywhere, even if you can't see them. Nighttime in-game has had some of my favorite moments and I just love exploring and hunting.
Far Cry Primal was extremely fun! I remeber loving it when it came out, while the whole world seemingly just hated it. But just like with Metal Gear Revengance, it has had a great resurgance in later years. I guess people just need to get out of the hate climate and let the game sit for a few years before giving it a fair chance and liking it. Which is better than just hating something. I would rather live in a world where people were less judgemental, but i´ll take latent positivity if the former is impossible.
@Bzake it’s definitely a hate bandwagon because people only hated it for this one reason “it wasn’t a real farcry game”. The game is actually really good and always has been good.

@Bzake Lol I really agree. From my experience of critiquing games, games after Far Cry 4 became just reskins with a few sprinkles on it. All of them aren't really bad and still good but comparing all of them side by side makes me wonder why I even bought those games for testing lmao
This actually was my favorite far cry, it was the only one that came close to the wonder I felt when I played the first Far cry. It was actually a funny feeling, there was no where to go, no roads, no cities . . .no where was safe . .and night . . .night was really night. It was great, and my kids just had a whale of time with it.
I think this game is underrated as hell
It has its issues, namely the fact that nothing feels all that different combat wise. The bow feels great but it's not a new addition, and with such a heavy focus on melee combat otherwise it's still really just feels like you're mashing the attack button with any given weapon
That being said, the limited arsenal made me play this game way differently than I play the other far cry titles. I can't take out an entire camp with a silenced sniper rifle and a light machine gun. And I can't hunt bears using c4
Instead I had to use much more close quarters stealth tactics and when I was taking on animals I needed to be cunning and prepared.
The world is gorgeous and was begging to be explored. I think this game still looks stunning. And having a pet lion is awesome
The story is whatever, but it's cool that they made up their own language for it. It's hard to connect to any of the characters so I ended up just leaving the main story quests aside. I did however explore the entire map and take out every Outpost and tame every animal. Takes a lot for a Ubisoft game to make all of its side content feel engaging to me but this one succeeded
I loved the game got 100% I played all fc games and this was 200 times better then fc6 in my opinion fc6 was worse then fc instincts in gameplay maybe I couldn't get into it felt ofkey

I enjoy the series but after 3:00 and blood dragon none of the games captured me enough to fully finish them. They're fun for a bit but at a certain point I kind of feel like I've seen everything, that's why I was so surprised with primal because it enticed me to explore the entire map and do all of the side activities
Same thing I never actually finished the story, however I did every single other thing you could do in that game and I loved it
Really excited to get into this one, probably the most interesting far cry game ever made to me, just wish they had another "primal" instalment with dinosaurs, imagine setting up a camp somewhere and being woken up by a trex or raptors in the area, that would be epic and terrifying!

Far Cry Primal is so extremely under appreciated
I love this game! I still have it. The only far cry I have and have ever owned and completed. The idea of starting with nothing and going out into the darkness because you need wood for a fire and seeing glowing eyes and wolf howls is terrifying and awesome! Plus the work they did to make up a while language is awesome to me. Amazing sound track, as well.
Far Cry primal is my second-favorite Far Cry game behind Far Cry 3
This game is so underrated. Best graphics in the series and the most engaging gameplay. Animals are a lethal threat when you don't have an M60 to take them down like in other Farcry games.

I remember sneaking around to the top side of a camp in the mountains and dropped onto a trail to start my rain of death when up along the rock wall a woman was getting railed from behind. I had to admire the openness of their 'relationship' 10/10. Try to put that in a game nowadays.

Hate boner for Ubisoft means all Ubisoft releases until a TH-camr decides to go back and play it a few years in the future and realizes it’s actually a pretty good game. Its the cycle.
This game was pretty interesting not every day we get a caveman fps.
Beating this on survival with permadeath is my greatest gaming achievement to date, probably will remain that way. I quit keeping track after fifty tries at the final boss and finally got it. I wish i could motivate myself that much in real life to be honest....
I love how this series basically flowed a lot like Assassin’s Creed
The first two are amazing and revolutionary games, the third is pretty good and has an underrated spinoff/expansion, the 4th is a critically acclaimed fan favorite, the 5th isn’t perfect but is no less good, the 6th divided the fans.

I never understood the "rage" aimed at primal for reusing the map from FC4 because it looks and plays very differently, unless you only ever used a bow while flying about kyrat in a primeval gyrocopter. Price might have played a part but primal was half the price of the main game in a similar way that blood dragon was, my ps4 copy still has the £20 price tag stuck to the case.
This is another ubisoft game where slightly more polish and a tighter storyline would have made this a goated game. Still enjoyed it when i played it.
It is always disapointing with How some ubisoft games have so much potentail and do somethings reallly well but drop the ball in some aspects.

This was actually the last FC game I enjoyed and even with 6 being a next gen release, this is hands down my favorite looking game in the series. The color palette and landscape is just gorgeous. I played the game like a total pansy though. I got the double arrow bow and just sat back headshotting everyone and sending in my badass sabertooth pet to take out the stragglers. First FC game I played attempting to not be full on knife stealth badass.
20:47 Joke's on you, Primal was my favorite Far Cry. Granted, I rarely ever play anything that hasn't been out for 3-5 years already. That way I avoid fatigue, disappointing launches, and having to pay full price.

The only game i think implements stealth so well,, If i cannot see enemies, then the enemies cannot see me. Moreover, it Doesn't have hive-mind like AI when exposed. Shame no games implements stealth like this anymore
Out of all of the Far Cry spinoffs I think Primal is my favourite. It's just got such different yet similar vibe to other Far Cry games and I love it. Speaking of, assuming FC6 gets a spinoff game, I wonder what it will be about?
Definitely agree that slapping the name “Far Cry” over the top of this entirely different project was just for the sales and to make people obtain it but it could have been its own game and people would not insult Ubisoft so much for it 😊
Damn, these comments are making me consider reinstalling. When I played it, I was so burned out on the open world formula that I ended up putting it down. But there would be no better time to get back into it with the Steam Deck. Still worth it?

I can't wait for the Far Cry game where you take some weird concoction offered to you by a stranger and you end up immersively bedridden and puking for 2 in-game days instead of any kind of interactive dream sequence.
Far Cry Primal is a underrated gem, such a fresh game, loved the prehistoric setting, even after finishing the game, still love exploring the world for hours, riding on a sabertooth or Mammoth is always fun 🙌🦣
I actually favored this one; I did feel it is overall the most unique one. It's great today still and I recommend. I tried to get into FC6, but even on a sale, I'm just "Meh" about it. Certain things in the game are okay, but some I do not like like.
I've only played far cry 2 (and loved it) and currently primal is on a deal so I've been considering purchasing it. I think this video has solidified my decision.
Far cry primal is certainly one of the games of all time
I've played this game probably 4 times over. The best cutscenes of any far cry game and the combat is ridiculously fun.
I think they probably were in peak physical condition, considering they were constantly fighting other apex predators for survival, traversing rugged terrain on a daily basis, collecting/chopping wood, making stone tools, building shelters, hunting and foraging all those good organic meats and blue flowers. I wouldn't be surprised if dudes had like 30 packs n back abs
They weren’t that muscular like bodybuilder, because muscles costs energy, yeah they were pretty strong, had mich higher testosterone and probably thicker bones
@@Leo.de99 it's much more likely that everyone was different, and the strongest of them were leaders who took the larger shares of food. there were tribes building stone monuments at this time, and you don't decide to start building stone monuments on a calorie deficit. pretty sure there were at least a couple people who had their sh*t figured out 👁
I love the Survivor game mode because you actually have to track down and re-tame any creatures you have lost beside the 3 apex beasts.
Yeah this should've really been in the normal mode too. It fits so much better than "reviving" the dead pet with some red leaves. Would've also made players use more than just the strongest beasts in case they lose those.
Funny how Far Cry did the eagle drone (Owl drone in this case) thing before Assassin's Creed
This game was fun AF. The story was good and the mammoths chasing you was one of my favorite things to do. They are relentless.
I still have this game for the PS4. I fucking love/loved this world, having animal companions and such. It’s definitely a casual survival game, but still a Far Cry game at heart

the biggest point of vr is being able to play your favorite pc games on a huge movie theater sized virtual screen. also programs like vorpx can make playing first person games reallly interesting. like battlefield and shit. its not so much the vr games themselves that are great but the things that you can do with a vr headset. plus just surfing the web with vr heaset can be really fun. this game would be a lot better with a vr headset and vorpx.

Has always been my favourite farcry game! Actually was hesitant to explore at night time cos of the wild animals and other tribes hunting at night. Night time was actually dark. No other farcry game has given me that feeling
For me personally, it was a more pleasurable experience than the witcher 3. Why no one talked about it earlier ? I came with low expections to this game (farcry series got me sick over the time) for 10 bucks on instant-gaming and got well surprised !! What a primal feeling i still have with this one !
I'd imagine fighting giant animals and then hauling their corpses all the way back to the village, as well as chopping down trees with rocks, breaking rocks with rocks, and building things out of giant chunks of bone and wood and rock would make a hell of a core workout. You ever try to drag a 5000lb mammoth 5 miles?
I agree. Ubisoft would've been well advised to wait before releasing Far Cry 5 so soon after Far Cry Primal however if you look at the timeline FCP was 2016 and FC5 was 2018 so it was 2 years in-between It was probably the release of other Far Cry stuff in-between that hurt Primals chances. They always seem to release both and AC and an FC in the same year.

It's a Farcry game because the map is identical to the Farcry 4 map and the game starts with the main protagonist going through some crazy shit and having to run like hell, or in this case fall down a cliff.
Imo farcry primal was always one of my favorites. I played as much as i could at the time, more than call of duty at that time. Idk why i was so attracted to the game but it really worked for me. I had each farcry when they came out to play since my dad always had the new games for me and him. Truly was a different time, most games now aren’t even as polished as this…

This is my favorite Far Cry game, barely eeking out Far Cry 3. But in FC3 I basically just used bows and melee takedown for most of the game, so this was just taking that side of the game and leaning on it. Same formula but more of the gameplay I liked, and more of a sense of exploration and discovery.

They had abs because they didn’t consume anywhere near the amount of sugar we do today, they had an extremely active lifestyle and they would have spent large parts of the year just surviving and starving.
I actually replayed this game a few months ago, and it was way more fun than I thought it was going to be. Especially if you turn off most if not all the HUD stuff.

I have so much nostalgia for this game, it's the first open world story game that I played and completed. This game felt so mindblowing for my child mind.
The only games I've played before this was like just minecraft and fifa and nothing else.
The eagles that randomly fly down and attack you for no reason are the reason I quit playing far cry 4. Annoying just for the sake of being annoying
One thing people pointed out that didnt make them play the game, was how the map for frycry primal was essentially the same one from far cry 4, but we're back to sticks and rocks, so i didnt see why that mattered to people

I was hyped to play this when it came out, it wasn't bad was a good game but definitely wasn't a 60 dollar game. There were only like 6 weapons and little to no skills, and the game was pretty much a copy and paste map with paint over it.
