One of my friend was in Indian Air force and I stayed with her in the air force quarters with her for a night and also attended a party with her and i was just amazed to see kind of respect she was getting from everyone. and i myself was treated so well. there were lot of women officers and everyone was enjoying party as colleagues and no difference between boys and girls. i was not able to see this movie as i abhor Karan Johar and his ideologies so i skipped this movie anyways.

I personally don't agree with you here regarding Jhanvi's acting skills. She was expressionless in the entire movie. The quality of acting delivered by her in the movie doesn't even match the acting quality of a outsider struggler in Bollywood. Secondly, movie,biopics and all are fine but Indian Army,Navy,Air Force, let's keep them out of our entertainment sources. They stand at a way higher place. If Karan Johar cannot make an inspirational movie about our Defense, he doesn't have the right to produce a derogatory movie either. Its our fault. We public make these clowns as stars and we know how to bring them down too.

1) I'm a feminist as well but I don't think that in Indian Defence Services there's this kind of or any kind of discrimination for women officers.
2) This 'Bharat Mata ki Jay' dialogue is politically motivated for sure.
3) Defence Officers don't have these sort of posters. Although it's a matter of choice but I don't reckon they do.
4) No Defence Officer can say I don't like my country, I only love to fly. If he only love to fly he wouldn't be in Defence Services because you can't fly to martyrdom without loving your country.

See, I don't claim to know the truth ( mainly coz I buy into the Foucault school of thought which questions the very existence of THE truth) but the respect of army towards women is an extension of the general patriarchy, women are respected as long as they fit the socially assigned roles of a devoted wife/mother of an army man, but the same soldiers often times won't see them as an equal. Women have had to struggle to gain respect from their male subsidiaries even in the police dept. I am all for respecting the army and nationalism and all that it entails, but above anything else, I want equality and one thing which even the other officers have agreed on is that there was n't a separate bathroom for for the women in the army, And the fact that something so basic would escape the notice of superiors shows how little thought or planning went into making an entire gender a part of the Indian army. The Indian army has great accomplishments no one is denying that, but but the attitude towards women I have witnessed myself, can be a little chauvinistic.
There were exaggerations I agree but then which movie does not have exaggerations. Could Mr. johar have scaled down a bit? Probably. But contrary to your analysis and the popular view I believe the message justifies some of the exaggeration. And you forgot to talk about the one superior in the army who actually trains Gunjan, and the assumptions of the other cadets which followed, were those wrong as well? Aren't successful women often seen as ones who have manipulated men through their sexuality to reach to the top, because that was the implication there. Getting across the point of gender equality in such an important field was more important than catering to some elevated and probably not entirely true image of an organization.
Also I actually liked that line about people doing their own jobs sincerely being more important than people just screaming Bharat mata ki Jai. If we're all sincere in our work in whatever capacity then we are genuinely and actively contributing to the development of our country, which is way more than just saying some phrase out loud. And as far as the content being politicized just concerned, you tell me which content is not? We are living in explosive times where everything is propaganda. So is it really a surprise that this movie is as well. And yes not all men are chauvinists in fact in my personal experience men in my life have supported me but it's often their care and their love which shows the embedded patriarchal notions in their head. For instance don't go to a rally because we care more about your safety than about anything else. Or avoid going out after sundown, your brother can get whatever you need. All of this is out of love, but but women need more now we need equality and respect.
