@@yourownkpi can you make video how you make with explanation. i wan to make custom background like yours. I laso have question is DAX/formula writing necessary?. i don't have experiance, so please make detailed video from picked 1 project as an example from begin to end.
I thought I was good at Dataviz until I saw this video. I'm going to watch all your videos and learn more, I just watched your 4 hour video and I'm already studying how to use Notion. In other words, in one afternoon I already learned incredible techniques with your videos, I want to express my gratitude.
I Love the incorporation of external tools such figma or illustrator to achieve a design of such elegant reports, the only problem is it is not really practical on a Report that keeps constantly getting updated with new visuals or sheets. It quickly gets time consuming and instead of making the job done it really emphasizes beauty over function. Sure it hella looks nice but if i can't edit changes in a timely manner it would frustrate the actual users of this report because of delays. But hell of a nice job though.
Thanks and yes that's something to keep in mind. If there are a lot of incremental changes expected then I wouldn't do it either or only at the very end. However it's possible to build an entire design system in Figma, which allows you to make changes very quickly by using toggles (colors, button icons/shapes, effects like highlights or shadows etc). I will make some videos about it in the future.
This is awesome. Exactly what role I play as well, so inspiring. I've been exploring a lot around Geo Maps in PowerBi and making those look good as well. It tough but super super next level. Excited to maybe see if you get into that!!
Wow you are so gifted! This is both sides of the brain hard at work. I like this style, as well as Alice's from Discover EI. Also Bas from How to Power BI makes great designs.
Haha thanks, that's what I love about Power BI. You can be analytical and creative at the same time. The videos from Bas are awesome. I didn't find a channel called Discover EI though
Thank you for makinh this. Request: Can you make your all videos without Timelapse. It will be very easy for us to watch in a smooth way just like other youtube videos.
This is great work! Can you please briefly describe how you made the opening filter panel? The video moves very quickly even at slow speed, I only managed to notice that bookmarks are used. This solution would help me a lot in working with filters and tables, a very convenient solution, because sometimes SWITCH does not give the desired result for the user. Matrix visualization does not allow you to put measures in rows...
I use an "open", "close" and "reset" bookmark. The "open" and "close" bookmarks affect the 'display' of the 'selected visuals' (I select the filter panel visual group) in the two different states where I hide or show the group. The "reset" bookmark affects the 'data' of the 'selected visuals' and I save it in a state where all the selected visuals (the slicers in the grouped filter panel) are in their inactive state. I created a tutorial for this report with more details on the filter panel: th-cam.com/video/RS2KL6Dg6Ms/w-d-xo.html And my next video is actually dedicated for this kind of filter panel and how to build it. I'm going to publish it next week.
This is beautiful, congratulations for the work. The only problem I see is that the reality of building dashboards is that it's usually an iterative process, so putting this effort in making this background in Figma is definitely not the best idea if you're doing the initial versions.
Thanks! You are right about that. Figma Design should definitely be the last step. I personally dont bother much with it until the visuals and the layout are already established. And when you are doing the design it's kind of iterative in itself, and you might discover things how the visuals could work better. Then you adjust. So yeah, it comes with a price :)
Hello, excellent video! I just have one question for you or anyone who can help me. How can you make filters persist across bookmark changes? I noticed you have a filter panel, but when you activate it and switch to another bookmark, do those filters stay applied? How is that achieved? Anyway, great video! It's truly inspiring.
Thanks, yes they stay activated. When you create a bookmark, make sure that the Data is unchecked (when you right-click it) so it doesn't save the current filters on the visuals. Probably when you saved your bookmark with the filter panel hidden, no filter was selected and the Data was checked. So whenever you click the bookmark, it brings back every filters to that state you saved them in.

Visualmente asombroso pero es una pérdida de tiempo si solo vas a mostrar la información una vez. Por lo general utilizo power BI para medir mis indicadores y me permita actualizar los datos de manera automática.
what a masterpiece! I particularly love the music you chose. The dashboard is just as epic as the music sounds. I am not a quick Figma user and am used to editing the background with SVG generated from PPT. Would you please tell me more about the benefit you have gained from Figma instead of PPT SVG?
Haha thanks. I think Powerpoint is also good but Figma is more versatile for design. I have more options with it. When I do design in Powerpoint it just feels a bit flat in comparison. Besides I work with shortcuts in Figma which makes it quick and its also fun :D
@@yourownkpi recently I found problems in ppt svg. When I generate svg from ppt slide, there is always some differences between slides ans svgs. I am not able to figure it out. So I think I have to turn to figma too.
Is it safe to say that to design for Power Bi using Figma, first you have to have a very solid understanding of the limitations of Power Bi from a design perspective to understand to make sure you aren't designing something that can't easily be achieved? Or do you feel it's flexible enough that you don't have to design with specific limitations in mind in Figma?
Nah I you are good to go. The only way to learn the limitations is by trial and error. You want to build something in Figma then you see whether you can use it for Power BI or not. Thanks :) It's hard to say, because it was the redesign of an existing report and in this video I only do it for one page. The calculations and the layout were already done. I needed a few extra measures for the new design though. On the whole 3-page report I spent around 15 hours. It includes coming up with the idea, prototyping, creating the final design, importing it to power bi and adjusting the layout, and creating 1-2 new calculations.
I would start with reading the book Storytelling with Data by Cole Nussbaumer Knaflic. If you are interested in Figma, any youtube tutorial will do. I also made one specifically for Power BI. th-cam.com/video/nVnj2C-alhE/w-d-xo.html
