Just give me some coffee and eats and i will hunt . Then again mayhaps not . To bad about the Penguins . Mayhaps you should have identified your self lol . Sorry you did get anything there . Excellent video! Thanks for the clips where you're scanning the shelves, as it's interesting to see which books they have. Amongst the spines I spotted various books I've never seen in the wild.

    Great attention to detail (of course!) Fun to see a reverse angle on Steve's video. Love that Wheatley is a find! (Never see him in the wild in the States!)
    I think it's funny how movie tie ins are the bane of most collectors in the present, but often a target when looking back. (At least pre- videotaping.)
    Nice video. I'll have to drop by more often.
    Have a great time hunting!

      Cheers Walt, glad you enjoyed this one👍 I really quite like TV and movie tie-ins and have collected them for years. Hoping Steve and I can team up again in the future 🙂

      @@JulesBurt Don't take me wrong, I see the appeal - especially for the nostalgia! I found (for myself) that some of the appeal dimmed when I could get a copy of the actual movie to keep, and further shine came off when digging through second hand bins (NOT garbage) and just swimming through movie tie ins that remind one of bad productions.
      {The only thing WORSE than Battlefield Earth is B.E. with a dreadlocked Travolta on the cover!}
      I still treasure my "Omega Man" cover to " I Am Legend", and I'm looking for a copy of "Privilege" that DOESN'T smell moldy! (Now *there's* a movie Americans never talk about!).
      Be well and continue too take excellent care of your collection!
      (perhaps a vid on dealing with foxing?)

    I enjoyed this video very much. I'm currently reading "At Random: The Reminiscences of Bennett Cerf," so you can see that I too have an interest in publisher history. Your Fred Hoyle book reminded me of the gorgeous leather-bound Easton Press books, because many years ago they advertised a subscription into their sci-fi series, and the first book they showed was "The Black Cloud" by Hoyle. I was a little too young to afford them, but suggested to my brother -- yet he passed, he was not interested in those types of collector editions.

    Wow, that DR. NO is brilliant. In addition to everything else fantastic about it, it’s got newfound cache from being featured in your channel title sequence every video! Do you mind my asking how much it was? If you remember, please keep an eye out for a cheap copy in your travels and I’ll happily reimburse. 👍

    • @JulesBurt
      @JulesBurt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This copy which is a big upgrade on my existing one was £2.00 or £2.50, so these days, a definite bargain. We'll take a close.look at the end of the month in the pick ups video.

    I hate bookshops that have no organisation, especially when they are grubby too. It puts me off. Stock photos and not even a mention of date and publisher on Abe put me off too. I have visited the Cinema Bookshop and had some good finds.There history section is good too, which isn't always the case in other establishments.

    So sorry to see what a shit show your Book Barn is! It looks like the last steps of keeping a business alive before it finishes imploding.
    "Books by the yard" is always a bad sign. I believe it translates roughly into: "we do not see or understand any intrinsic value to these strange artifacts that we dust and shift from place to place, but we understand other people like to pretend to so. We will sell / rent you some. Would you like them arranged by color or size?"
    I suppose "Book Barn" is a name many impressive bookstores use, but I am most familiar with the destination bookstore of Niantic, Connecticut, New England, USA. The Book Barn there is expansive idiosyncratic and charming as well! I recommended it if you ever find yourself in the Northeast! A petting zoo, and Free Coffee and donuts, sprawling over several buildings, and better managed shelves in the basement of their barn!!
    Glad to see you out and about. Steve sent me to this vid, but I've found you before from your fetishistic book vids. Keep up the good work, and keep doing you.

      Thanks my friend! Your Book Barn sounds a million times better than ours. Maybe they struggled during lockdowns? Who knows, it was a pretty empty experience, sadly.
