My belief is the A/LU is written this way because this part of the chip performs two functions: arithmetic and logical computations. Arithmetic will perform math equations (not in the sense of using a calculator). The logical will perform if/then/else statements.
Seeing this in my recommended 3 years after my GCSEs now that I'm at uni is fun 😂😂😂

With regards to the Von Neuman bottleneck, is there any way to increase the bus/wire efficiency or speed? Is there a limit to this? As everything else improves with technology memory, CPU (ALU, CU) is this (wire speed) going to be a limiting factor in this architecture? Thanks.

There's a WJEC specific one on my channel but it's incomplete atm unfortunately - it covers the key things but some specifics are missing, so please look at the specification to see what's missing and try and go over that. Definitely still hope!
