Thank you (5 years later) for posting this video. I recently purchased a PT-100 and wanted to add a headphone jack and ran across your video. Your explanation was easy to understand and photos and video very helpful. I'm a software guy (45 years and counting) but never touched a soldering iron before. I followed your instructions and it all worked... first time! Thanks again!
Bro… this was my first keyboard as a tike! Got for Christmas back in 87. Hearing all the sounds, beats and the rating sound…man it takes me back! Because of that tiny little keyboard I’m now a music producer. Thanks Mom! ❤️
This is really fantastic. Hearing those rating sounds made me flash back to being a little kid in the back of my parents car on long trips. I just absolutely tortured them with this keyboard. It was especially bad because I had a ROM Pack with an absolutely horrendous version of Born in the USA on it.
You prolly dont care but if you guys are stoned like me atm then you can stream pretty much all of the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Been streaming with my girlfriend lately :)
Million thanks for the great video.. I am still having the same red PT 82.. used to play.. my most favourite thing about this keyboard is the opening music when switching on..
This was my first ever keyboard ( I think it was actually bought for my older brother when he was about 3 ). World songs is the only ROM card I have. Part of the reason I never really used it in my productions back in the day was because it doesn't have a phones jack.
Just discovered your channel and am starting here with your first video. So far, I love it. Nothing like a German talking about electronic music....or old computers but that's what Jan Beta is for.
I think he was doing some sapling when he made his little song at the end of the video because you can clearly hear more than one voice being used at once when we know that this keyboard is monophonic in the free play mode
According to you, what is the best portable keyboard from the 80s and 90s for creating house music? Thank you again for creating these videos. They always make my day.
Just found one of these in a thrift store in spain. Had to buy it as it seems to be able to play really nest melodies. Wanna be able to play old video game music ffom the NES era 🥳
Hey bro, I purchased this keyboard after seeing your video and wanted to make these modifications myself, just wanted to ask how do I identify the ground and signal wires attached @ 4:33, additionally where are the 2 red wires shown in 4:49? Thanks so much for the video and explanation.
The signal cable is usually the red one. In any case, it is the one that's connected to the + contact of the speaker. I added the other cables. A short red to connect the tip and ring contacts on the socket and a red and a white to reconnect the speaker.
Really nice video! While you were showing the melody guide, I think the pitch was moving around a liitle bit, especialy when a light is flashing. Are the batteries low or it always does this?
Thank you for this great video! I kindly ask you for a little bit of help. I have some soldering skills but I am not so great at understanding electronic circuitry. Can you please explain to me how would you connect wires in case in which you have a stereo keyboard? I have Casiotone MT 105 to which I would like to add exactly the same female output TRS as you have shown in this video. Thank you upfront!
This is pretty easy. It's more or less shown in the video at 4:09. But instead of connecting the tip and the ring pin as I did, you have to connect the right amp cable to the ring pin.
Just got one of these today and it has a built in output? Looking online I can't find ANY with a factory audio output. But mine is definitely a PT-87, and it has a stock audio output beside the power input. Even has "output" moulded above it in the plastic and the DC 7.5 V is moulded above the power input instead of beside it like yours. How can this be?
If you were to install this stereo headphone jack in a stereo keyboard (say the sk-2 for example), would it essentially be the same? I'm guessing you would have to solder a separate wire to the ring pin instead of bridging the tip & ring.. So one wire from each speaker would go to the tip & ring, and the other from each speaker would go to the ground pin.. Then out from the L pin to left speaker and out from R to right speaker?
I would love it if someone would modify my PT-87 and give it and earphone jack I also need a new battery cover for my PT-87 and 2 of the knobs are missing my PT-87 used to belong to my cousins but they were no longer using it so they said I could have it I took it even though it had 2 missing knobs and a missing battery cover but in spite of the missing knobs and missing battery cover it still works quite well
12:30 Childhood the song. Thanks for making this awesome video. By the way, I´ve been looking for the tracks of this ROM without the melody. Anyone know where I can find them?
Weird, my pt-87 has a 3.5mm output, labelled "output" and everything. Maybe an upgraded later model, or an early production and it was omitted on later runs?
Yes, and there are also PT-82 models without output. Both models must have been produced simultaneously for a short period of time. And during this time, Casio must have decided to omit the audio output.
Did anyone else figure out that when you had it in a sustained sound mode and pressed a low key and very quickly a high key, then the high key would play continuously? I did.
@@rohan_sharma178 This only worked some instruments where you held the key down it continued to play like flute or organ. It didn't work with piano. You would press the lowest key, then as you let go quickly press the highest key and that note would sustain without you touching the keyboard. I thought I was a wizard.
Reminded of 8-bit Guy having reviewed the PT-80 and got confused over a song on the ROM pack that was called "Die Lorelei", as he thought the song was about killing someone named Lorelei, when it was named for a rock on the Rhine river in Germany. th-cam.com/video/FSnVjgKUSBc/w-d-xo.html Although the song you played was called "Old Folks at Home", it sounds more like "Swanee River" to me. Of course I had to check Wiki there and see why that is. Oh well, I just got schooled!
I like Yamahas better if for no other reason they include actual connectors between their boards and parts. Casio always solders straight to the circuit boards which is frustrating.
Imanuel Yonatan the Rom Pack was only for the songs so without the ROM Pack the songs wouldn’t play but you could still use the rhythms and free play mode
hi, just recentry bought it, but it appears to be out of key, i mean, ratio is fine, but the notes are wrong for instance: C is like F half sharp and so on. any idea why?

100s upon 100s of hours spent playing this little keyboard as a kid. So many memories came back while watching this!
Oh, dear god, that rating sound! Even today, if I listen to Greensleeves that sound plays right after.
All what you have to know about the PT-87! Thank you Keen On Keys for creation & uploading this outstanding Video.

great video and great voice mate. I'm adding an output jack to a less impressive pt100
Just found one with several rom carts for $10 at the flea market. Awesome review, helped me figure out how to switch tracks.
This channel is amazing! I am so happy I stumbled in here. Thank you so much!
ahhh i have this!! the lack of headphone jack meant i never did anything with it... :))) was so nice to see

I have 1no pt82 in the year 1988❤just darunn.ur nlog is nice.i am now nostalalogic.T2 bhai, agartala, tripura in dia.
On the free play mode you can change the main voice of the 4 rating sounds and change their tempo and add a rhythm to them if you like
I should definitely send my broken Casio to You since it seems that You are really capable of repairing Casio keyboards. 👍
😘 I started learn music on PT 82. Also it was my first teacher.
This is the best channel if you love keyboards and have OCD. The way those keys get scrubbed and cleaned, so satisfying!!!

I would go with one of Yamaha's FM keyboards with editable parameters, like the PSS-380/390/480/580/680/780.
Just found one of these in a thrift store in spain. Had to buy it as it seems to be able to play really nest melodies. Wanna be able to play old video game music ffom the NES era 🥳

I learned how to play Against all Odds on this thing.

That could have been vibrato. In ROM pack mode it is switched on for some tones.

3.5mm 1/8 Inch Female Stereo TRS Balanced Socket with Switch. I bought it in Germany, but you can find something similar at any electronics retailer.

Nice song, i rate it up to the bulb light above you lol
I'm thinking about get a PT 82. Anyone knows if there is a way to implement a switch to transpose the keyboard one octave lower?
If you purchased a Casio PT-88 can you do a review on it?
My Pt-82 does not have an output jack. Strange.
The synth is small, the sound is small, but the music is great 😋
That's odd as my PT-87 has the headphone jack? Maybe there was a 2nd version to cut cost?
Hello I have a PT-82 however speakers dont work but the headphone jack does do you have any idea what the problem could be
