"Chapter 7 is a parenthetical explanation..." Why did John break from his narrative of the seals at the 6th seal? Have you ever watched a play where they close the curtain between acts of the play? What goes on behind the curtain. Sometimes you hear strange sounds. They are REARRANGING the set to fit the next act. This is exactly what John is doing: rearranging the setting to fit the next act: the 7th seal starting the 70th week of Daniel. God is not going to allow the HURT to come to the earth UNTIL He sees two events accomplished: first, He must see that the 144,000 are sealed for their protection during the trumpet judgments. Next, God absolutely must see the raptured church, raptured just before wrath, or just before the 6th seal, safely in heaven before He will allow the HURT to begin. John covers these two events in Rev. chapter 7. Make no mistake about this great crowd. There will be only TWO un-countable crowds during the 70th week, but John wrote of only one, the Gentile church of today. The other will be the Old Testament saints, but John does not mention them. So we can know this great crowd, too large to number, is the just-raptured church by the size alone. There will be perhaps 50 generations of believers in one place at one time. They are the just-rapture church, second, because of their description. And third, they are the church because they were seen in heaven JUST AFTER where Paul placed the rapture: just before the start of wrath, which in Revelation would be just before the 6th seal. Why then did John write that these people came "out of the great tribulation..." First we should notice that Jesus told us, those days of great tribulation (GT) Jesus spoke about, will not begin until late in Revelation 14. John has not yet started the Week, much less has he arrived at the midpoint of the week. Most readers expect the answer as to WHO this huge crowd was, to be how this huge group got suddenly from earth to heaven-but that is not the answer John was given. Rather, the elder speaking to John explained how each member of this great crowd joined all the others. They each got born again as they washed their robes in the blood of Jesus. The elder never answered the question as to how they suddenly got from earth to heaven. I believe God considers this life on earth as a life of tribulation. John wrote in the first chapter, "I, John, in the tribulation..." But I think God combined all this individual tribulation into one, since he was addressing one huge crowd. So "they" came out of each individual's tribulation, and added together God chose the word Mega or great. This cannot possibly be referring to the days of great tribulation (GT) Jesus spoke of, for that will not begin until after the division point of the week, and at this point in time, John has not yet even started the week.
