Well there was definitely a Roman inspiration to the game, along with LOTR fantasy of course. If you go to the Darknut boss room in the past Temple of Time and look at the ceiling, it is 100% the Pantheon's ceiling. And of course the Arbiter's Grounds has a literal Coliseum.

    • @nillynush4899
      @nillynush4899 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@BlueThunder1988 Think of the Twilight Realm as the literal Dark World, ala Link to the Past. When you get into the weeds of messy translations/localizations - the "Twilight Realm" is just another way of saying "The Dark World". Each Zelda game that features a Dark World has its own unique interpretation of what that world actually looks like, but they all remain the same concept.
LttP dark world is full of evil and has an animal transformation. TP dark world is twisted and Link turns into a Wolf.

I’d like to imagine that when Ganondorf said “whatever you desire I shall desire too” he allowed Zant to basically operate as an extension of his will, but with his own sentience. So when Ganondorf tried to save himself at the end of TP, Zant’s spirit, feeling betrayed by the person he put so much trust in and who also realized that the powers he was gifted still dwell within him, desired Ganondorf’s death. All it took was the snap motion to gain what he desired

@@MeepChangelinghis body is dead, not his spirit as it's still attached to Ganondorf. Plus the zelda series has poes which are the spirits of the dead. Ghosts and poes can still interact with the physical world. Numerous Zelda games even show the ghost interact with the world, Ocarina of time is a great example of this because in the forest temple you must defeat four poes in order to light the four tourches in the main room. In the Spirit temple the boss is literally an exeucted prisoner.

I'm still surprised no one mentions how, since LOTR had finished airing at the start of Twilight Princess' development, a boss like Fyrus was VERY CLEARLY inspired by the Balrog. Even Metroid did this in 2007 with Prime 3's Meta-Ridley fight. Where Samus and Ridley do battle falling down a massive hole, and Ridley occasionally grabs Samus mid-fall just like the Balrog does to Gandalf.

The underwater descent into Morpheel's boos room scared me as a kid, cause you couldn't see the bottom. From the boss door you were already at the bottom of the lakebed temple which itself was submerged under later Hylia. It was like you were going to the absolute lowest point in Hyrule.

YES. And did you notice that the exact opposite is true of Argorok? Obviously nothing is higher than a city in the sky and then you climb up the tallest tower of that highest place and fight the dragon-- then have to climb even higher for the second half and hang by those Peahats... Terrifying in a very different but sublimely symmetrical way!
Also, the BGM for Part 2 of each those two boss fights shares the main motif! And let's not forget that each boss fight respectively completes the last piece of each of the game's creepy quest items. All in all, it's pretty clear to me that the parallels were fully intentional... and awesome.
It helps me realize that this game can and does go "beyond the surface" (pun slightly intended) even with those bosses that have no essential story elements. Just so much art to it.

theres a theme of stalfo enemies occupying arena areas. my personal favorite stal boss is stal champion, followed by stalmaster.
the whole concept of stalfos are so cool, even if its just a cool name for skeleton. even the name is badass.
but the only thing more badass than dying and having your skeleton re-animate, and probably be more badass than you were alive. is dying and getting the honor to become a phantom, a soul of little renown, with respectable battle prowess, housed in a suit of nigh indestructable armor.
also the design of phantom armor and engravings make me hard. i really need them to come back, i really want to see them again in better resolution. dlc armor satisfied me for a little, but i need that 7ft armor monster fix.

The mounted battles with King Bulblin (and raiding the bulbin HQ in Gerudo desert), the wagon escort, and fighting Stallord are up there for my single favorite moments in the entire series.

The Darkhammer's "skin" bears quite the resemblance to "The Imprisoned" and Demise, but that's a tale for another day.

Fun fact, getting to see her head spin around exorcist style was not the intention of the scene. We were originally meant to see her normal face in the mirror, and her monster face only once she turned around, but the animator got the timing wrong. They liked the spinning head better and kept it that way.

Since several years have passed between Link warning Zelda and Ganondorf's execution, I always assumed Ganondorf openly betrayed the king and declared war, which went on for those very years. That's why the Gerudo are nowhere to be found in Hyrule. Supporting Ganondorf, they had to retreat eventually or were forcefully driven from the kingdom. It's still possible that Ganondorf was held prisoner and for him to be the one to slay the Stallord (which is such a cool theory!). It would also add a component of 'poetic justice' to chose the Arbiter's Ground to hold and execute Hyrule's enemies.

I think it's save to assume Midna's people are ruled by a monarchy, she's called a princess after all. The reason Zant thought he would rule is because he wanted to marry her, but he got rejected. That's why he asks her to join him later. When he still gets rejected, he tries to kill her.

Your comment about Zant getting into the Door of Time got me thinking and I came up with a mini theory.
Most people theorize that the 'Temple of Time' is actually the Realm of Light from Ocarina of Time. So what if Zant simply sent the mirror shard to that realm using his magic, but since the entrance to the realm is destroyed in Twilight Princess' time Link has to use the door of time to access it but Zant never needed to because he never physically entered the realm? Zant would think nobody could ever get the shard but of course Link proves it wrong by time traveling. Of course there are a lot of holes. Like time would maybe need to be fluid in the realm and such, but I've never heard a theory on this before so it was a fun idea.

I LOVE your theory about Stallord, it gives us cool lore and adds a darker layer to the royal family Nintendo wouldn't have the balls to make canon. I especially like the idea of Ganon being the only one bad assed enough to kill Stallord, which makes sense cause Ganon's a magic user and wouldn't bother with the crappy weapons or armor the Arbiters would give him. 10 out of 10, it's my own personal head canon now.

Quick clarification: Auru's description of the Arbiter's Grounds as a prison for the most treacherous criminals is sort of a mistranslation. In the original Japanese, Aura describes the Arbiter's Grounds as a prison that once held the most treacherous of criminals, that being Ganondorf, of course. This also implies that Deathsword may be a manifestation of Ganondorf's malice building while he was held there, one which had to be sealed with ofuda by the Sages. Given the age of the structure, the age of Hahra Gigant (Stallord's Japanese name), and the colosseum structure he is held under, I personally find it likely that the Gerudo, long ago, may have forced those they captured to battle each other and even Stallord prior to the Hylian takeover of it and its conversion into a prison for Ganondorf.

Ganondorf had the triforce of power as his. He put that power into Zant. They became shared holders. E know the triforce has either the ability to decide who uses it, or an advanced series of steps to go through.
As shared holders of the triforce of power, when Ganondorf was bested, it chose the more worthy holder or was already associated with. Zant. Zant having the power kills his manipulator.
We already know that holding the triforce of power can keep you alive without a physical form. It happened to Ganondorf, who gave some power to Zant.
    Tldr Zant is not dead.

As much as I love the ganondorf killing stalord theory, I think it contradicts your other theory that Stalord is older than volgaria or the dodongos because if ganondorf killed him after the events of ocarina of time, how could stalord decompose as quickly as he did, just as you stated about the stalord being older than the dodongos. I think the ganondorf theory could still work, it would just have to eliminate the other point that you made.

This IS the same royal family that needed something as gruesome as the Shadow Temple after all.

There is one extra foot note I would like to add , if you would care to listen.
The sages said that they underestimated their own power , as if they made him Ganon.
Meaning that it is not Ganon , but an imposter made by Twinrova that was forgotten.
Zant and Twinrova had the same type of relationship with Ganon after all.
She needed Ganon in order to command the Gerudo.
Explaining why the Master Sword was moved , Twinrova pulled it to no effect.
Zelda sealed Ganon's fate in more than one way by splitting the timeline in two.
She did this sending Link to a dimension where Ganon wasn't a factor somehow.
But that's something else , and there are too few details to dive into.
And if you'll recall , there are 2 bosses that had yet to be defeated in the past.
Twinrova , of coarse , and Phantom Ganon.
Phantom Ganon gains power as the physical embodiment of how people fear him.
What would happen if was executed as the real Ganon for crimes in another time?
And by seven sages , armed with a magic sword no less.

Part of me has long felt that, more that simply corrupting a single creature, the fused shadows and mirror shards actually bestowed other attributes onto said creatures that were derived from other creatures inhabiting the temples. Fyrus for example was Darbus with aspects of a torch slug and maybe a bit of dodongo. Morpheel makes me think of a hylian loach in some ways, its mouth reminds me of bombfish (which it notably spawns), and seems to have some Bari properties as well.
