    Oh man… FINALLY someone makes a good video explaining how to travel the yarn invisibly. I have wasted so much time jumping from video to video waiting for someone to get to the point, but they never do! Thank you so much!!! I’ve been wanting to switch colors on my WIP properly, but doing it badly because I got so frustrated trying to find a video that actually explains this part. I’m going to frog the last few rows I’ve done out of sad desperation and redo them properly now. Thank you! Thank you!

    In another video it mentions a "front" and a "back". Is that just the side you pick to put all the unsightly bits? Like you always drop the old colour/previously used to the back and the new colour/changed colour to the front. So you have to remember which is which and not always the bring the new colour to the part you are facing at the time and the old colour to the opposite side that your looking at

    • @nanascraftyhome
      @nanascraftyhome  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I typically don't worry too much about where I drop my yarn in c2c. In my graphs I typically make row 1 the wrong side and Row 2 would be the right side of my project. I will then tuck my ends in on the wrong side of my work - pushing the ends from the right side to the wrong side if need be. That way I don't have to worry about it as I go along. I hope that helps! 😊

    So glad I found your video. You are so much easier to understand than the other videos I sat through. I have two questions though, not specific to changing color. I'm working my first C2C after working almost exclusively amigurumi so I am having trouble with my tension. Amigurumi is more successful the tighter your stitching so do you have any suggestions on how I can ease up with my current (and hopefully future) C2C projects? And that question might be the cause of the second issue I'm having. My blocks are definitely more rectangle in shape than all the square ones I've seen in your, and other, videos. My graph pattern says to use the 5/2 method so that's what I've been doing. Is there a way to make them look more square, more even on the tops/bottoms and the left/right side? Is it a tension issue? A 5/2 issue? Something else entirely? Thank you so much for this video and for your time if you are able to help.

    • @nanascraftyhome
      @nanascraftyhome  ปีที่แล้ว

      So glad you found the video helpful! I want to make sure I am understanding your question. When you say 5/2 method can you describe that method? Are you working the mini hdc block instead of a dc? When I am working the mini hdc I would chain 4 then work 2 hdc for the block. However, if you are working a ch 5 with just 2 dc stitches that may be causing the rectangle issue with your finished block. Let me know I will try to help if I can. Tonya 💕

    • @crystalbannon8379
      @crystalbannon8379 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nanascraftyhome it's all DC with 5 across and 2 up, which does seem like a rectangle to me. It's just with this being my first C2C project I can't trust anything I assume. While looking for more videos last night to see if I could find more info I came across C2C Entrelac (Tunisian crochet) and I might like the control I have with that better. I'm going to do one little sample piece of each and see what I think will look better for the finished project.

    Is the slipstitch made into the chain of three orthevspaceof three chains

    • @nanascraftyhome
      @nanascraftyhome  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It can be done either way. When I am working the dc c2c method I prefer to work the slip st into the top of the ch-3 but when I am working the mini hdc c2c technique I work the sl st into the ch-2 space. However, this is completely up to you and how you like the finished look. I hope that helps!

    can i just add color as i go? like each row or square color change i cut off an weave ends in later ? just until i do a few to get the hang then go learn color carry?
    i dont mind weaving my ends or tales as you wish to call some do... im just trying to learn to add the color where to change it an how to read the graph... then ill do the color carry... is that possible?

    • @nanascraftyhome
      @nanascraftyhome  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely - you can certainly cut & weave in ends instead of carrying colors. That is a great idea as you are practicing while you are getting familiar with the technique. Once you have more confidence then you could move on to carrying colors especially with more complicated color graphs with a lot of color changes. It is entirely up to you!

    • @nanascraftyhome
      @nanascraftyhome  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry if that wasn't clear I am happy to clarify. You will begin reading the graph from the bottom corner. If you are a right hander you will start from the right corner working diagonally. If you are left-handed you will begin from the left corner and work diagonally. I hope that helps!

  • @anitakay6722
    @anitakay6722 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’m new to crochet, so I’m curious. Why do you not cut the first colour and work over that end as well as the new colour’s end? Would that not secure it and save you the need to make bobbins?

    • @nanascraftyhome
      @nanascraftyhome  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a great question! You could certainly do that. However, the more complicated the colors changes the more ends to weave in. If you have bobbins you can pull the yarn back into your work without and end to weave in. I am not a big fan of end weaving hence bobbins. 😉

    im sorry so at 10:46 are you trying to say that for us to figure out what is the right side, we should look at the first block and that (wrong side first block = right side whole project)?

    • @nanascraftyhome
      @nanascraftyhome  ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically I decide which side I want to be the RS as I go on - sometimes one side will look better to me than the other. Once I have made that decision I stick to it the remainder of the project - keeping the ends to that side, weaving in ends on that side, etc. With some graphs you won't have a choice - especially with projects that have letters. I hope that helps!

      Sorry to confuse you! I prefer to sl st in the ch when working dc c2c but into the ch sp when working mini hdc. I think the "hole" or "gap" made when working into the ch-3 sp is a little smaller but definitely a personal preference. Whatever works for you. Thanks for watching!

    I watch this video often as reference. I'm making my first c2c but reading directions by row instead of following graph. After row 90 it says "reduce from the right." Then after row 100, it says "reduce from the left." I'm a bit confused. Can you please help? I'd appreciate it.

    • @nanascraftyhome
      @nanascraftyhome  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Happy to help, Annie! Basically those instructions are saying that you begin decreasing after row 90. So that will be as "tall" as that side will get. Once you finish row 100, you will begin decreasing that side. So instead of a square (in which you would begin decreasing at the same row) you are making a rectangle shape. I hope that helps but let me know if you need anything else. ❤️😊

    • @anniedelgado2858
      @anniedelgado2858 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for taking the time to help me out! I think I get it. After row 90, I start decreasing. I am still increasing at the ends. Then after row 100, I start decreasing. Am I increasing at the ends? I guess my pattern will show me that but I want to be clear.

    I'm a left handed crocheter, does this mean I'm starting with the bottom left corner rather than the bottom right corner?

    • @nanascraftyhome
      @nanascraftyhome  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kelly -- I am not a left handed crocheter but from my understanding, for left handed corner to corner the graph is mirrored so I believe that would be correct. Here is a link to a left-handed C2C tutorial that may be of some help. th-cam.com/video/fSyaHc3KWsI/w-d-xo.html. Let me know if you have any additional questions! 😊

      @@nanascraftyhome Thank you. I have one last question, I have a pattern that is drawn in excel and I took it to Office Depot to have them print it but they could not. It is 91 squares left to right and 164 squares top to bottom. Do you print out your patterns or draw them on graph paper?

    • @nanascraftyhome
      @nanascraftyhome  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I typically will try to scale them to fit on one piece of paper -- legal if it is really large. I use Stitchfiddle.com to create my graphs and it will allow me to fit on one page to print. It is a free service and I have a tutorial to help people navigate if they have never used it before. Hope it helps you! th-cam.com/video/EPBTVrCZouk/w-d-xo.html

    Is it bad I cut the yarn and tie another on to colour change ...

    • @nanascraftyhome
      @nanascraftyhome  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you weaving in your cut ends or are you working over a knot? I generally don't recommend tying ends together without weaving it just makes me nervous the knots will come loose with washing and wear. However, if you are confident that they won't come loose that is fine. Hope that helps!

      Thank you for responding. Stitch fiddle for me was not working very well. It was very pixelated and distorted. I did it through paint and that seemed to work after I cleaned up the boxes. I do have another question though, how or when do you start to decrease on your pattern?

    • @nanascraftyhome
      @nanascraftyhome  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sholayork9936 if you have created your graph you will decrease when you get to the corners of the graph at the left hand side and the top of the graph. If you have made a square graph, you will decrease on the same row. I hope that helps! 😊
