Not spinning, 6 months old. GE repairman came and in the process of removing the lid switch, he droped the new one. Installed it, and it did not work. Got another one and installed it. When he left I disassembled the one he dropped and the one he took out. Both os them, the spring had come loose. On occasions when my washer was trying to spin it was rocking and rolling, jumping all over the place. I suspect that the violence caused the spring to come loose and causing the lid lock to fail. The spring is not attached well and it looks like it would be easy to fall off its connection. Goint to try and sell it quickly.

Been having the same issue. I’ve been running the spin test (14) to dry the clothes. Look for user manual underneath on how to do spin tests

We changed the lid lock, control board, and enlarged the pressure feedback line to the control board. It has been working fine for the past 2 years since making all those changes.

Omg. This is my same issue after ordering a new lid lock ans changing it today. Its 11pm and I've been washing the same towels since 7pm...I'm going insane.

He had to use a different washing machine to finally get the clothes spin-dried!
I also have the same problem with a GE GTW460 model ! 4 repair visits still not fixed. When the next tech comes out I am going to ask if it could be the "Air Dome" on tub???

I have this same machine and have issue with it becoming unprogramed all the time. If the lights go out while the machine is running it becomes unprogramed. If the drainage hose is pulled while it is one the machine becomes unprogramed. I want a less digital machine which does not become unprogramed. It really seems like with these digital machines we are taking a step back instead of moving forward.

The only one available right now is the Speed Queen Tc5 Classic Clean ! Best in class in out of balance performance and built like a tank 💪

Fuck these machines, never going to buy another GE pos again. Has the most sophisticated lid/lock sensor mechanism known to man and it's easy to fail. Replaced the mechanism and it's still not working which means it's the control board. What a piece of shit.

I have been researching the same GE model (485) and noticed that if not all videos that have serious issues from day 1 are the "GTW460" models. I have had issues with a GTW485 within 6 months of day 1 with drainage but reset it and 9 out of 10 times the machine needed to just recognize that the lid lock has been unlocked. By trying to force it open can cause many issues. As for the Diagnostics Modes, not being an electrical engineer, the jury is still out, I believe it is the lid lock assembly. Part on the way. We live in an age of disposable appliances. GE and the rest do not want you to have a washing machine like the ones built in the 1950's and 1960's that literally worked for 30 years. That's all you had to do was keep them clean. My cell phone battery dies every 5 1/2 years from a certain company. Hmmmmm. Bob has patience of a saint as I would have hauled that washing machine into Sears and dumped it on the sales floor, hooked it up and put a sign on it for all customers to see what garbage we are buying.

Amazing, they can build jet engine's but not keep a washing machine running 5 years. Besides the lid switch and water pump, there is a 3/4" hose attached that is3/8" to 5/16" diameter which restricts the water flow and means the washer takes a long time to fill. Who thought of that?

It's most likely the lid switch

I bought a house about 20 years ago, the previous owner had left the washing machine in the laundry room it was a GE it was all leaking from it. I bought a used washer and dryer from a local guy. Delivery was included in the purchase price when he brought them I tried to give him the GE just to get rid of it. He said he would take it if I wanted him to but he was just going to throw it away He said they weren't worth fixing. I told him he didn't have to take it he could just leave it I could throw it away. He said Whirlpool and Kenmore were the best brands in his experience. So I've only bought Whirlpool and Kenmore since. Of course Kenmore never made their own appliances they were always rebranded versions of something else. But they always chose good quality manufacturers to put their name on.

Does this machine have an off-balance sensor? I think maybe the sensor was "tripped" and the machine tried to correct the balance by adding water, etc.

Hi this is happening to me as well. Did you think it was just the control board? Or did you think by any chance it was a lid lock problem?

I have this same machine. Mine did the same thing. It held the power button until it kicked off. Let it set for 5 minutes then hit the power button again. It drained and spun then. I think the computer had to reboot.

The final fix included: replace the pump motor, clean and enlarge the pressure line from the fill tube, and finally, replace the control board. After all of that, it seems to be running ok. We found out that Sears requires you to fix or replace 4 different call parts before they consider replacing it. We will not buy from Sears again.

We finally did get it fixed, and it turned out to be 3-4 replacement parts, including a drain pump and control board. Way too much trouble.
