Equitable Access to Science Education at Rural Schools of Bengal

  • For millions of students in rural India, the experience of learning science is limited by outdated facilities, lack of proper laboratory equipment, and sometimes even basic learning resources. Without hands-on experiments and modern teaching tools, science remains an abstract concept, far removed from the world outside the classroom.
    However, the situation is changing, and there is a growing recognition of the importance of upgrading school science laboratories to provide a more practical and engaging education. The vision is simple: empowering students with the knowledge, skills, and curiosity to understand the world of science, while also preparing them for future challenges.
    DITO Social Welfare has taken initiative in an agro- industrial belt of Bankura under Ghutgoria Panchayat to bring transformation at Ghutgoria HS School, where there has been no science laboratories. Under the sponsorship of the organisation all science laboratories has been reinstated as per the guideline of NEP 2020. As a result students now can prcatise and has the facility for hands on training of the academics.
    The key to these upgrades lies in comprehensive teacher training, where educators are equipped with the skills to use new technologies and materials effectively. By investing in both infrastructure and training, rural schools can turn their science labs into centers of discovery and innovation.
    Imagine a class where students not only read about chemical reactions in a textbook but actually witness them firsthand-where they can explore the wonders of biology through a microscope or test the laws of physics by building simple machines. This is the power of modernized science laboratories. DITO Social Welfare Association, hopes to bring this change to many other schools where such facilities are missing. The organisation needs support from all to bring such magical change in the education eco-system of India.
