This was such a great episode. I saw the “just cereal” thumbnail and was like “is this guy pulling our leg?” Only to realize the thought and sentiment put behind each bowl and the tribute to his brother. That, paired with the meaningful conversations, has immediately made this one of my favourite episodes of this show.
What I love about these is how easy it is for these celebs to open up and have an organic conversation. Almost all of them I know only by name but after watching them on here, it makes you feel like you know the person more than just the persona they have.

Not to say I didn't take away anything from what was deeply important in this interview, but it really is that scene you picture in a movie. Wandering lost around the place where your brother lived, opening that fridge and staring blankly. starting the microwave and staring blankly. Just void of any way to process the crushing realization of what it all means in that moment. Got me tearing up man. Humanity is dark and difficult, and I'm glad he has found a way to cope with those things like many of us have.
My gosh I still have a crush on this man after all these years. I remember being 7 or 8 and seeing him in the movie Angel's in the Outfield. He was adorable.
@Imar13 yeah, I agree. I initially thought he was being a contrarian, but the fact he and his brother talked about this is proof to be a brotherly tribute.
As someone who has lost a sibling, the eating of his brother's last meal resonated very hard (though my sister's last meal was hospital food 😅, i definitely have a lot of her things - especially clothes). I also think that there is an important idea here... We may not all grieve the same in time/strategies/etc, but the sense and sight of someone else's grief (and process) can open doors we couldn't see ourselves. That's what I think happened w Josh and is happening to varying degrees in these comments as well. ❤ ... but yeah, the all cereal choice is wild but deeply relatable.

JGL is such a real dude. His personal anecdotes are so relatable -- core memories of cereal and Saturday morning cartoons, Beatles albums, walking everywhere with a miniDV camera, etc. And it gives me hope hearing a voice of optimism for the future of ethical technology; I don't think of myself as a pessimist, but as a realist, it's hard to look at current trends and not predict a lot of disaster. I also appreciate his philosophy on death; I too don't believe in an afterlife, but living on in people's memories is absolutely a form of immortality. Just hearing stories about his brother makes me feel like I've met him. At the end of the day, all we are as people are just a collection of memories, so sharing them re-integrates us back into the great collective.

Ok crazy idea... I love this show, its great to hear these stories behind the people. It is so real. Here's the mad part, what about if you did a couple of episodes with a slice of normal people. Hear their stories. Like the Veteran, the immigrant, the ex convict, the normal person. I feel it would give a huge insight into humanity...
Aw I wish I could have met his brother! I’m trying to consciously change my social presence too. For me, it’s not letting anxiety and mistrust control all my interactions. I’m not necessarily aiming to be super extroverted, but I want to be able to actually connect with people. Build trust, really share who I am, and be open enough that people want to share who they are with me I spent so long unconsciously socializing in ways that pretty much signaled “I’m not comfortable around you,” which caused a lot people to not be comfortable and open with me. I have been rewriting my own script, looking at myself from different perspectives, challenging my old habits and conceptions. It’s been a lot of hard work that’s ultimately pretty invisible to the day-to-day people around me. But my childhood friend has noticed my efforts ☺️ I’d love to talk to someone who chose to do a similar thing. Sometimes it’s frustrating how many people don’t want to change even though they don’t like something. It is damn hard work at times, I will admit. I’ve definitely done my fair share of complaining and dragging my feet along the way! 😂 (And there’s other things I complain about but haven’t felt motivated to change). But I do love the progresses I’ve made, and I haven’t even reached my end goal yet 😌 I hope I meet people who are on similar missions, cause I’m tired of people who think I’m whack for not just keeping my head down and going through life unsatisfying superficial connections 😂
Yeah they explained it like the viewers stop watching once they know what the meal is when it's the conversation that keep people watching, not finding out what the food is
Such an incredible kind and profound episode. Joseph seems like such a genuine and kind individual after this.... not that he didn't before, but when Joseph thanked Josh for sharing the story about his mom. What a thoughtful human being.
Ya know I laughed when I saw the thumbnail and saw that it was ALLLL CEREAL but after watching it? I get it. Seriously. I have a LOT of nostalgia with my sister & brother watching TV eating cereal. It has A LOT of connections and memories. Thanks for unlocking that for me.

Love JGL
27:43 this made me emotional 😭 as someone who lost a brother it always hits different to hear someone talk about their sibling or loved one they lost
I love how Joseph is just a humble kind genuine guy. I also love how Josh tried to sneak in all the Chris Nolan questions. Great video.
Aw I wish I could have met his brother! I’m trying to consciously change my social presence too. For me, it’s not letting anxiety and mistrust control all my interactions. I’m not necessarily aiming to be super extroverted, but I want to be able to actually connect with people. Build trust, really share who I am, and be open enough that people want to share who they are with me
I spent so long unconsciously socializing in ways that pretty much signaled “I’m not comfortable around you,” which caused a lot people to not be comfortable and open with me. I have been rewriting my own script, looking at myself from different perspectives, challenging my old habits and conceptions. It’s been a lot of hard work that’s ultimately pretty invisible to the day-to-day people around me. But my childhood friend has noticed my efforts ☺️
I’d love to talk to someone who chose to do a similar thing.
His aura always seems like a cozy warm hug.
Hate how you removed the beginning where the guest goes over what they have ordered.
Was one of the best parts of this series.
Yeah they explained it like the viewers stop watching once they know what the meal is when it's the conversation that keep people watching, not finding out what the food is
Oh this is where he has been. Just at home eating ceral. Fair enough
Corny af comment
Such an incredible kind and profound episode. Joseph seems like such a genuine and kind individual after this.... not that he didn't before, but when Joseph thanked Josh for sharing the story about his mom. What a thoughtful human being.
Ya know I laughed when I saw the thumbnail and saw that it was ALLLL CEREAL but after watching it? I get it. Seriously. I have a LOT of nostalgia with my sister & brother watching TV eating cereal. It has A LOT of connections and memories. Thanks for unlocking that for me.
So many clips to save from this one. Wow.
actually never clicked on a notification so fast, joseph gordon-levitt is one of my favourite actors since childhood 😭
A bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch might be in my last meal request, but not all cereals. Interesting choice to do all cereals this episode JGL
If food is art, this meal is Dadaism.
😂😂
Duchamp would be proud :,)
Nah it's Warhol pop art
That whole conversation on laws about addictive media technology and JGL saying this is such a need… damn I couldn’t agree more.
Loved all the fun facts I learned. Fave episode so far ❤
eight bowls of cereal as a last meal is such a vibe
Honestly the best interview
I expected nothing less from Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Last Meal
I’ve loved Joseph Gordon-Levitt since 3rd Rock grew up with him love him to bits and he acts exactly like he did in the show when he was a kid and of course he picked all cereal 😂
Love him!
And mad props to Josh for doing the cereal calculations and figuring out that the healthy cereals are nutritionally the same as the "sugary" ones! 🤯
I think he said all the "sugary" cereals are about the same and "healthy" cereals are around the same. Not the sugary = the healthy.
I met him when I was doing enrollments for tsa precheck and he was really cool but I didn’t tell him I recognized him because I didn’t want him to be uncomfortable since I had to get private info for his enrollment but he was really cool and it was a cool experience.
You sound like a slave. “I was doing TSA pre check”.
I feel connected to this guy don't know why. Maybe because I am introvert engineer as his brother and I really like his view on the world.
Also I don't know why, but I cried watching this (the same tears which come while listening to Revelation No.9)
The way I gasped when I saw the table 🤣🤣🤣
Yo, please do caseoh
they might be bankrupt after that tbh
When I was younger. My brother and I used to eat 2-3 boxes of cereal in a day, at our grandmas house during the summers. She would stock up on whatever was cheap so it was always a great balance of never getting tired of it.
All that to say this episode hit different 🥲
That's an insane amount.
That's sweet. Nostalgia is such a beautiful emotion.
@@black_rabbit_0f_inle805 definitely. We were always outside playing catch or something along those lines. I still eat a lot of cereal, but a normal bowl a day now lol
I relate wit JGL's brother. I was extremely introverted and alone while growing up until I was 21/22 and decided that, that was no way to live my life. Now I have plenty of friends and spend a lot of time with them. I think it shows that the only person stopping you from having friends is yourself and if you just keep trying then eventually you'll find the people that will live you
These two with their smirks and cereal just trolling everyone
I love the quinoa cereal. It’s one of my favorites.
I ❤ JGL so much. In this format, it really struck me how well spoken Josh and Joe are. What a fantastic conversation!
"I love that question" is mad respect..... Good on all y'all involved with this right now.
I love JGL and this show format
You could have just hit the like
I love JGL since ever 😻 10 things I hate about you is my favorite movie of all times
I love how he is still just a cereal kid 😅
I’ve been watching JGL since 3rd Rock when I was a kid, and he’s just a wonderful soul. This was fantastic
I really like the chemistry between the two. Not sure what it is specifically, but this was one of the best episodes for me.
I think Joseph Gordon is my new fav dude! Such a good heart and even better nostalgic 90’s memories. My fav guest of this series this far.
Joseph is an embodiment of modern art. This video is so abstract that it is ✨philosophical✨ af. Love it.
Nothing gets me to push against my zipper more than Josh going off on a highly detail tangent about a random piece of food.
I just know Joseph Gordon-levitt would just be one of the nicest people! I ran to this video! ❤️❤️
It worked, I’m getting the whole fam to watch Beverly Hills Cop this weekend. What a cool guy!
Some of last meal's best questions creativity wise. Takes a lot of thought to generate thought provoking conversation from cereal segways.
he’s a writer and producer so it makes sense he put a personal underlying meaning behind choosing cereal. you can tell it has alot to do with memories w his bro and the bliss in simplicity
He'd better talk about 3rd Rock From The Sun.
That show deserves more praise than it got.
This is probably the cheapest episode of Last Meals ever
