Isn't odd, though, that Shrek had keys to Duloc and could just walk in unopposed? He claimed the swamp was his, but if we are honest, it really wasn't, at least not until Farquaad gave Shrek the deed to it, which also made Shrek the only other known landowner in Duloc, and Shrek was technically a citizen of Duloc, even if he didn't acknowledge it, as Farquaad apparently had legal right over the swamp until he gave the deed to Shrek, though it may have been an attempted ruse on Farquaad's part. Hey Wotso What if wonder what will happen if Lord Shen’s parents ( Kung fu panda 2 ) have another child? What if Lord Shen have a pure heart from someone from his family? What will happen if Lord Shen have a little sister?
It probably would've ended up as sibling rivalry that would've turned into regicide (Regicide is the act of killing any monarch or sovereign, either for usurpation of the throne or if said monarch or sovereign was found guilty. I will say it was quote popular in late 18th century France)
My one complaint about 4D is... how the hell didn’t Farquaad realize that Fiona was still an ogre when she ‘came back as a ghost’ once he threw her over the waterfall? He should’ve immediately realized that her skin was still green and that she was still very much not dead (no aura, not translucent).
I actually theorized the origin of Farquaad one day while watching the movie. He’s a ruler who took over the kingdom either through armed forces or a coup d’etat whose power throughout the kingdom was feared which explained the reaction cards. Fairy God Mother never dared go to Duloc in fear of Farquaad’s power.
I have two theorys for this , 1. As you said people assumed the city kept them safe , but when farquad was eaten by the dragon it shattered their illusion of safety and caused them to flee the city 2. The more fleshed out option is the fact the he had no one to keep his thrown no wife, child, brother or sisters . For all we know what would realistically happen in a fudal kingdom would be that several factions rose in the new power vacuum and fought for control thus destroying the city around them in their presumed civil war .
And you think this all could have been avoided if Lord Farquaad had chosen Snow White or Sleeping Beauty. Those two were probably a few days travel but there would be no danger. Snow White was in swamps Forest it would have been easy.
Farquaad was such a hypocrite, kicking out fairy tale creatures, imprisoning them, and torturing the last one, Gingy just because they're anthropomorphic living things compared to normal humans...

Wow, fifth comment! Its so interesting to see how Duloc fell into ruin, like its so creepy it’s just like the people somehow snapped and couldn’t handle the oppression, and they didn’t know what to do so they went mad. It’s so interesting yet creepy to see this happen
well considering some of the changes we see, there was probably some magic linked to farquaad, maybe he was a magical creature but wanted to be the only one, thus having more power than anyone else, maybe using some to build Duloc, when he died the magic would have rebounded, destroying the place and turning it into something deeply unsettling
Super late! But in the musical, farquaad says his father was a "miner" and his description fits that of a dwarf, however i don't know how accurate or canonical the musical really is :// Edit: I had said his father was one of Snow White's dwarves, but that's because i automatically connected mining with dwarves since that's what they're known for in fairy tales!
I was thinking that Duloc would be a new kingdom after Farquaad died. Never guessed that place was abandoned. Hopefully that there weren't any new villain who want to rule that place.
My guess is everyone living there probably hated it and wanted to leave due to having no true freedoms. Even the majority of his soldiers/guards seem to have simply turned their backs on him the moment he was eaten, no longer putting up any resistance to Shrek and in fact actively supporting him, doing things such as writing the "Awwww" sign quickly. They likely hated their jobs to begin with, but did them both due to not having a choice and due to the pay. With their leader gone, so too is their paychecks and orders. With truly nobody left who wishes to stay, I'd imagine that the armed forces would focus on protecting the ordinary citizens as they travel together to relocate to another nation such as Far Far Away, and then either join the local militia or take up work as mercenaries. Duloc, now abandoned with nobody left to keep everything maintained would start degrading and become dilapidated. In essence, there might not even have needed to be any anarchy or anything. As soon as they got the opportunity, everyone just up and left the place.
The tournament shows that there is a nobility in Duloc, although possible that some of them were just sons of rich merchants, means that they could possibly raised up in rebellion due to Farquaads death and lack of heir, and how indifferent he was about sending them to their deaths. This led to a string of noblemen declaring themselves kings before being killed by the next person claiming to be a king. Eventually the chaos and deaths on the streets made people decide to leave, so the nobility could possibly have looted the city and used their stolen wealth to set up their own petty kingdoms.
One thing I just recently thought of was what would have happened to the Shrek universe if he didn't get eaten by Dragon, like he jumps out of the way at the last second and survives, what would happen then?
What a waste of infrastructure. Farquad built an organised and pretty city, and then, 0.01 seconds after his death, it's gone. My man really should have made a succession plan of some sorts.
In early drafts of the original movie, DuLoc was already a well established kingdom with Fiona's parents serving as king and queen. Farquaad takes over as regent after they pass away.
Everyone thinks Katniss from Hunger Games is the greatest symbol of rebellion while high iq people like us now know that Shrek is the #1 greatest symbol of rebellion
Shrek didn't actually crash the wedding in time, because they were waiting for the cue that had already been said. So Farquaad did end up marrying Fiona, but it didn't matter in the end because he died by a dragon, ending the marriage completely. For quite a long time since I saw the movie, I wondered what would become of Duloc after loosing its only leader, but didn't expect it to be covered in a holiday special rather than a sequel.
Machiavelli had some choice words for what Lord Farquaad's demise: it is PREFERED to have the fear and love of your people, but above all else, NEVER be hated. The underlying bits indicate that Machiavelli implicated that by being HATED, you only setup for your death for people WILL ANNIHILATE someone whom they hated.
When they return to Duloc and that song plays about how it’s a creepy place. Just literally makes me laugh so hard I need a doctor because my ribs are really hurting every time🤣🤣🤣
Would love to know of what would have happened if Prince Charming made it to duloc to find farquaad trying to marry her and him trying stop it or maybe just finding out of where she was and got to farquaad before shrek
There sort of was a succession plan. The plan was that Farquad marry Fiona and produce an heir. But as Shrek proved, the most vulnerable time for any feudal land is when the lord has no heirs.
I suppose after Farquaad was gone there was no longer any reason for people to stay in Duloc and let’s face it if he was awful to the fairytale creatures what was he like to his people. I suppose the people wanted a new free life that isn’t controlled by a ruler.
I'm sure that the fact Duloc was a really, really large town, whose every tiny bit of farmland in the miles and miles around was, by Farquaad's orders, MOSTLY WASTED ON SUNFLOWERS, a largly disparative space to food yield ratio crop, just because he liked the thought of his perfect little kingdom surrounded by endless fields of giant flowers, played a role. Without Farquaad to bankroll food imports food would be very, very scarce in Duloc. Lack of water was also a possible factor. The entire big town only seems to have a single well, isn't situated near any sort of river or stream, and despite bearing the name Du Loc (medieval French for 'Of the Lakes), not a single lake is anywhere near the place, and most of the water from that well was probably wasted on WASHING EVERYTHING (again, Farquaad's orders) which would make the already bad water shortage much worse. How long was Duloc ever really going to last? The only ways in which the place was well-planned were literally none of the ways that actually MATTERED towards the long-term existence of the town. It was a town that wasn't built to be a functioning town, it was a town that was built for the sole purpose of stroking Farquaad's ego and indulging his power trips. It was doomed from the start. Likely the reason it was populated at all in the first place was the same reason all of Duloc's fairytale creatures ended up in Shrek's swamp; Farquaad had people rounded up, brought in, and just not allowed to leave. Once Farquaad was gone, the food imports stopped, and the soldiers stopped getting paid. Now, not only did the people there have to deal with water shortage, but also a looming starvation crisis. There wasn't going to be time to clear the stupid sunflowers, plant more higher-yield crops, and harvest them before people starving to death was a certainty. Nobody there really wanted to be there, had any love for Farquaad or attachment to the place, nobody could see any benefit to staying on, and now there was nobody MAKING them stay there since the soldiers had likely wandered off to find work with another noble. So, they just up sticks and left. I'm sure more than one of them paused to take a dump or whizz on Farquaad's grave monument on the way out.
Whoa, Issac, I thought a Shrek fan like you would have paid more attend to the original Shrek film, as it shows clearly shows exactly what happened to Duloc. You may remember that after Dragon dropped Shrek and Donkey off at the Palace, Donkey told Dragon "to go have some fun", and like any self-respecting dragon, we see her immediately start chasing knights, and quite possibly any other inhabitant of Duloc that wasn't at the wedding - and she wasn't just chasing them like it was a game of "tag".. Remember that for all of those years she guarded Fiona, she was EATING everybody that came to rescue her. She even had a cookbook entitled "Serving Man". There is little doubt that the whole reason she agreed with Fairy Godmother to guard Fiona, was due to all of the free meals she would make out of all of the knights who would be coming to rescue her. So who do you think she was eating AFTER Fiona was finally rescued? Nobody else was coming to her castle that she would be able to eat, and her "boyfriend" Donkey had already turned her loose once to terrorize Duloc, so this obviously became her source of food and entertainment whenever she wasn't cuddling her Love Interest. With its leader gone, and it inhabitants being devoured daily, any remaining survivors no doubt abandoned the ruined city. Just because she "married" Donkey doesn't mean Dragon ever changed her dragonish nature, as we later in the films when she is admonished by Shrek for eating a Valet the last time they went to a hotel, and of course, her deliberate murder (and in all likelihood offscreen devouring) of Prince Charming. And let's face it, a giant, flying, carnivorous dragon would undoubtedly have an extremely high metabolism, requiring a massive daily caloric intake, and the now leaderless Kingdom of Duloc, (with the unwitting, tacit approval of her new friends, Shrek and Doneky), has become her buffet. This doesn't make her "evil", it's just a "dragon thing".
As someone who still loves the Shrek movies, I can only imagine the rest of his life ... was pretty crappy 😂😂😂 Thanks for the new vid Scott and go hug your furbabies all 💙🐱💙
I remember the city of duloc when i was as kid and i watched it for the first time. I was scared. The white walls, the symmetry, everything was too perfect
Cities typically don’t fall within only a few years. It takes a HUGE event to cause that. I feel like given how bad of shape the city is in, that it’s possible that the magical beings attacked Duloc as revenge which drove the people out. Similar to the sacking of Jerusalem or Rome
I forgot Duloc showed up in Scared Shrekless. I guess my assumption was people either left because Farquaad died and after seeing what he tried to do Shrek and Fiona they didn't want his legacy to live on. Maybe an allied kingdom took them in.
In silicon, the portrait of farquhar on the ground became a skull, and the lyrics to the music box changed. This may be a nitpick, but someone had to go out of their way to change all that, duloc might not be totally abandoned.
Lord Farquaad relocated fairy tale creatures and then these fairy tale creatures retaliated in 2 waves. As a citizen of Duloc who saw how easily Shrek defeats weaponised knights I would also awkwardly approve those who just ate my leader and have a frickin draygon on their side. People ran away from Duloc in horror afterwards, afraid of further fairy tale retaliations. In his lust for Fiona, Shrek became a terrorist of Duloc. Utilising Donkey and his draygon, Shrek destroyed a perfectionist city-state and stole their soon to be queen. #FarquaadDidntDeserve2beEaten
Isn't odd, though, that Shrek had keys to Duloc and could just walk in unopposed? Bro that would've been a cool story! Especially the civil war between pro faarquadists and those who wanted to escape his tyranny!
they all just left Duloc and it left it as a ghost town, as for it's dilapidation. well since no one was tending to the city, nature took over as seen in episodes of Life After People.
Still not over the fact that Farquaad anticipated humiliating Shrek, but didn’t expect things to actually work out between him and Fiona
The person who disliked is Lord Farquaad
The other 3 is fairy god mother, prince charming and rumplestelskein
And the other two are rumple and a knight
7th is mama bear and 8th is thelonius
everybody
farquad is cloning him self
I would love to know what happened to Faarquad, Charming and Fairy Godmother in Rumpelstiltskin's alternate universe. After Shrek's deal, Fiona was never saved by him, so...what of the villains we already met?
Considering how dulocke didn't seem to be to connected to far far away, I'm pretty sure stilskin would let him play king in his small kingdom
Also Charming was never going to get there in time, part of the contract Rumple had Fiona’s parents sign stipulated that she’d be rescued which caused her to get sick of waiting and rescue herself
tbh Fairy Godmother and Charming probably fucked off because well no princess no royalty
@@tomthebat394 fairy godmother had the power to do whatever surely she could of made duloc or Worcestershire her own land for charming to be king in shrek 3 charming is king for a bit after overthrowing the Queen then Arthur became king with shrek and fiona being next in line
Apparently, Farquaad was originally going to appear in Shrek 4ever After, but the idea was scrapped. Would have been cool to see what kind of role he could have played and what kind of relation he would have with Rumplestiltskin.
Probably he would of been king of duloc marrying a different princess but being a puppet of rumple having a army of knights and far far away residents as militia.
Artie was also originally going to appear in Shrek 4 as well

Honestly I think the power vacuum was probably what doomed the place, I mean even if farquad was a tyrant at least he got the job done , but being dependent and suddenly having the thing you were depended on disappeare, I wouldn't be surprised if a few power struggles start arising,it very likely everyone just died

It probably would've ended up as sibling rivalry that would've turned into regicide (Regicide is the act of killing any monarch or sovereign, either for usurpation of the throne or if said monarch or sovereign was found guilty. I will say it was quote popular in late 18th century France)

Yeah. Fairy tale royalty is a-dime-a-dozen; it's not like the citizens of Duloc would've had a shortage of other kingdoms to swear fealty to.
Well, you see what you want to see

I actually theorized the origin of Farquaad one day while watching the movie. He’s a ruler who took over the kingdom either through armed forces or a coup d’etat whose power throughout the kingdom was feared which explained the reaction cards. Fairy God Mother never dared go to Duloc in fear of Farquaad’s power.
What I want to know is what happened to Duloc during rumpelstiltskin's regime in forever after
Probably doing semi okay considering Farquad probably didnt die or the kingdom was conquered or something
I think everyone in Duloc left, mostly likely went to the kingdom of Far Far Away
And you think this all could have been avoided if Lord Farquaad had chosen Snow White or Sleeping Beauty. Those two were probably a few days travel but there would be no danger. Snow White was in swamps Forest it would have been easy.
How would marrying Fieona make him king of the under world
The dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be.... unnatural.
Farquaad was such a hypocrite, kicking out fairy tale creatures, imprisoning them, and torturing the last one, Gingy just because they're anthropomorphic living things compared to normal humans...
How does that make him a hypocrite?
Kayleigh Brown probably because he’s cartoonishly weird looking and he used a magic mirror to find a princess to marry

Maybe he was a leprechaun, would explain his height at the very least 😂
Super late! But in the musical, farquaad says his father was a "miner" and his description fits that of a dwarf, however i don't know how accurate or canonical the musical really is ://
Edit: I had said his father was one of Snow White's dwarves, but that's because i automatically connected mining with dwarves since that's what they're known for in fairy tales!
Wow, I never knew that Farquaad and Duloc appeared in more than the original movie. You learn something new every day!
Nice job buddy I always learn so much when I watch your videos
“Some of you will die, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make.” This quote says a lot about him.

One thing I just recently thought of was what would have happened to the Shrek universe if he didn't get eaten by Dragon, like he jumps out of the way at the last second and survives, what would happen then?
guards would have still feared the dragon and it would do anything to eat Farquhar again
honestly I Wondered what happened to Duloc when Lord farquaad disappeared Thanks for that information Wotso take care yourself and stay healthy👊❤👊❤👊❤
I did too until I saw Scared Shrekless.
What a waste of infrastructure. Farquad built an organised and pretty city, and then, 0.01 seconds after his death, it's gone. My man really should have made a succession plan of some sorts.
Deep down in our hearts, we all needed an in depth look at Shrek lore
In early drafts of the original movie, DuLoc was already a well established kingdom with Fiona's parents serving as king and queen. Farquaad takes over as regent after they pass away.
Hey Icaas, have you ever watch any the Hotel Transylvania films?
Many you could some Discovery videos on that for October.

Welcome To Duloc! It's a perfect town! We have some rules, you got to obey them now!
Would love to know of what would have happened if Prince Charming made it to duloc to find farquaad trying to marry her and him trying stop it or maybe just finding out of where she was and got to farquaad before shrek
I just thought that Dulac was abandoned when he was ate by Dragon
R.I.P Lord Farquaad 1452-2001
Issac Carlson: He died

I say RIP Mama Bear since that short tyrant turned her into a bearskin rug. Papa Bear and Baby Bear mourned her by the fire
My reason: there is no next heir so the people commit anarchy
Lord Farquaad was also a blunt parody of Mike Eisner and how he ran Disney.
1:00 I love the Shrek the Musical reference here! I just finished preforimg in that show, (which is why I am now watching a million Shrek videos).
Great video 😊

The run down and defunct Duloc felt very Dark Souls to me
Cities typically don’t fall within only a few years. It takes a HUGE event to cause that. I feel like given how bad of shape the city is in, that it’s possible that the magical beings attacked Duloc as revenge which drove the people out. Similar to the sacking of Jerusalem or Rome
Or it was a Orwellian dystopia that only needed it head to fall to come apart.
omg stop this is actually such a beautiful explanation. you GO, citizens of duloc!! 😭
The whole kingdom was ran like an amusement park. The question is, how was Farquaad keeping it afloat?
I forgot Duloc showed up in Scared Shrekless. I guess my assumption was people either left because Farquaad died and after seeing what he tried to do Shrek and Fiona they didn't want his legacy to live on. Maybe an allied kingdom took them in.
I honestly had no idea that Shrek lore got so deep. This straight up felt like a history lesson lmao
Oh yeah! There's so much Shrek content that all of this stuff can go pretty deep!
@@IsaacCarlson Yeah. you wouldn't think Shrek would have so much complex political conflict, but it really does.
In silicon, the portrait of farquhar on the ground became a skull, and the lyrics to the music box changed. This may be a nitpick, but someone had to go out of their way to change all that, duloc might not be totally abandoned.
I got distracted by Kermit in the back 😐
Lord Farquaad relocated fairy tale creatures and then these fairy tale creatures retaliated in 2 waves.
