Right? They bullied Ekrcoaster until he gave up on animation altogether for a while.
He was 16 and saw through their predatory contract. So they used their animation Sins channel to hit him with 5 or 6 massively insulting videos.
Then on the apology, they dodged everything. Blamed it on Animation Sins (owned and run by the same people)
The actual devs deserve money, but the owners are shady. Real shady.

Tbh, as someone who couldn't escape an abusive household until adulthood and thought that was normal... I disagree. I was a scumbag at 17, and now I am not a scumbag. I learned better only as an adult because I went off to college, escaped for a while, got therapy, etc.
The real issue shouldn't be that. It should be the focus -- do you focus on taking accountability, or do you focus on excuses? The minor excuse flies to me... if the focus is on personal accountability.
Btw, not saying they're off the hook. NFTs suck, bullying sucks.

@@trashpanda3544 Sorry for that long ass reply. (I ended up deleting it because this summary is better and I doubt anyone'd read that.)
tl;dr: It doesn't excuse accountability, but it really isn't as simple as "bully bad, everyone else good." Villains reach over into heroism and vice versa, and it isn't so black and white. Maturity shouldn't be fully expected all the time of minors in all aspects, either.
...but I am talking on a general level because that's what the comment was talking on. In this specific case, we're actually in agreement with the accountability stuff.
Their focus was not on accountability and making positive change or amends. It was on making excuses. "We were just minors!" was the focus, and that in itself is the problem, I think.

It would be one thing if they were a group of friends who wanted to make games, but it's obvious all they care about is turning Playtime into a money printer. Then they go and harass Ekrcoaster and offer a fake ass "apology" without owning up to anything because that means bad publicity which means less money.

Your mention of FNAF and Poppy Playtime essentially being for kids got me thinking. FNAF wasn't originally MADE for kids... But then it kept on going and got so popular with kids they started heavily marketing towards them with merch and the games became less scary.
Poppy Playtime is a perfect example of a horror game that's specifically made for kids- that is ALSO made to get money. Like, based on how the creators content before the game was (and still is), this checks out. They already have a LOT of merch and made NFTs off of it. FNAF didn't even have merch that early on... The merch for Poppy Playtime is SO expensive too???? Like good god, that's more proof.

Boys like these dont typically change, because they *like* to make fun of people, that's not gonna stop because of backlash especially if they've remained in the same internet circles, theres frequently no space to mature there.
Not to judge someone's future on the way the behave as a minor. But I really cant see the developers being suddenly good people now that they are adults, especially with the way they handled the "apology " and just their game in general. Every part of their actions paints a picture of people who dont care about hurting others as long as they get entertainment from it, and only create games for cash grabs there seems to be very little integrity both business wise and personally

The whole "it was in the past" and "we were only young and dumb" can only go so far is what I meant.
I was mainly thinking of other past dramas involving this sort of content getting slapped with a "we were just kids" line and that line is constantly being said in these sort of situations where it sounds more like an excuse than an actual point.
But you do make a valid point with ages and how people should start regretting their actions prior to being 16 because that's when they start to wisen up a bit. But it also makes the situation between MOB devs and Ekr even worse if you consider the fact that the owner was 17 while Ekr was only 15, if not younger, during that whole disgusting mess. Personally, I was never a big fan of Poppy Playtime when it initially debuted, mainly because I thought it was just gonna be another fad like Hello Neighbor, Baldis Basics, and Bendy and the Ink Machine, but the moment I heard of the movie deal, that was when a big red flag hit off in my head. When Five Nights at Freddy's got its movie adaptation announced, the third game had been out for a month and at the time, the series was considered concluded. Here, the game isn't even complete and they are ALREADY announcing a movie? that's what caused me to dig deeper and then I found out about the plagiarism allegations, the NFT debacle, and the developers shady past. Say what you want about FNAF and Scott Cawthon, but at least the FNAF games didn't start as a Money Making Merch Machine, they were a last hurrah of game development from a man who was going to give up, and Scott Cawthon (for the most part) seems like a good guy. Poppy Playtime on the other hand seems like it was made to be a merch machine first and a game second, and the developers, from what i've seen, seem like they are nothing more than greedy scum who aren't afraid to step on anyone to get what they want.

So, 2 things about the ekercoaster situation id like to note:
    1) as someone who’s 18 years old, not much older than zach claims to be, the difference between a 15 year old to a 17/18 year old is much more immense than you give it credit for. Were not full adults yet, but we are much more mentally mature. A 17 yo harassing a 15 yo like this shouldnt be just treated like a feud between minors. There is a definite difference between the two, and that is not ok.
    2) the animation sins situation reminds me of various other examples of people asking someone to stop harassing them. This was a while ago, but ive seen screenshots of someone making a legitimate request for someone to stop making videos over them out of fear of getting doxxed, and the person harassing them decided to show it in their next video. People like this are legitimate pieces of utter shit

I totally agree with point 1! I am currently 19, and the difference between a 17 year old and a 15 year old is soooo wide in their developmental stages. I think in America, it has been unfortunately normalized to lump all of the teenage years together, when the reality is that there are very large differences in maturity level between them. At 17, most are looking into colleges/careers, driving, working, and graduating high school. At 15, you're lucky if you can get your driving permit in most states, and you can't legally consent to most contracts or medical things without parental approval. Such a difference, and I wish this had been pointed out in the video a little more!

This means that a "measly 2 years" of teenage development causes more change to your behavior than even 10 years once you are over the age of 25. teenagers use the "minor" excuse when it gets them out of having to deal with the consequences of their actions. If you try to give a 17yr old a kids meal, they'd tell you they are 'basically an adult' and would never. Poppy is to the “horror for children” genre what Overwatch was for eSports. There was no grassroots competitive scene for overwatch, from pretty much day one they were hyping up the OWL and all of these tournaments and such, and it really spoke to a level of presumptuousness and artificiality that would have killed any other product had it not been for the fact that Blizzard’s name still held some merit.
When FNAF made it big, it was a fluke, a Hail-Mary that managed to land, it was just Scott playing into Jim Sterling making fun of his art style and actually making a horror game, we didn’t see that game explode into a massively marketed and overly merchandised IP until at least the second game.
Poppy feels like if someone with a time machine went back in time and tried to invest hundreds of millions of dollars into FNAF before the game even launched. It reeks of hubris on the suits’ part.

I agree and the best example of this is sadly security breach.
Poppy playtime has a good looking art style and a fun mechanic (with the hands) however their main audience are children, that is why they make it so colorful and why they make the puzzles so easy.
Speaking of puzzles, poppy playtime chapter two feels more like a puzzle game than a horror game.
At least it doesn't try to remove anything that has to do with violence and blood from the game like security breach did to be "child friendly", in a story about murdered children.
In the artistic perspective it is good looking the gameplay is decent enough but it is absolutely nothing revolutionary.
In the moral perspective it is a huge operation to get as much money as possible from their young audience.

No your absolutely right though. It’s a bit scary how bad it’s getting. Did you know you used to not be allowed to advertise 1:1 models of toys in the content of your tv show because of regulations by the fcc? But then Ronald Reagan deregulated advertising to children and companies went wild with it

I have really mixed feelings about these children's horror games. I was a spooky little baby bat once upon a time so I know there is a market for kids who want scares. That said yeah the merchandising is a bit aggressive & it feels like these cash grabs flooded the market immediately.

It’s rather depressing to see that this entire subgenre is oversaturated with garbage like these, you know. When I was just a kid like you, I grew up watching stuff like Courage the Cowardly Dog, Invader Zim, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, Gravity Falls, etc. Nowadays, shameless cash grabs such as Poppy Playtime are now considered to be the “child-friendly horror” of our current generation.

Every time I see a new “horror” game like this, I immediately know I won’t be interested. It’s so obvious that things like this are just trying to cheat the same success Five Nights and Freddy’s got. Make a game for TH-camrs to react to, make some vague “lore” for a Game Theory, and merchandize as much as possible. It worked with FNAF because nothing like that had ever happened before, but this is just the same garbage Hello Neighbor or that retro animation game (I can’t recall the name) did. It’ll just fizzle out and nobody will care anymore.
Edit: I was talking about Bendy and the Ink Machine with the “retro animation” comment. Hadn’t watched the full video when typing so thanks Mutahar for mentioning it.

The thing about other "family friendly horror games" is that they waited a good bit to release merch. I think Fnaf had a very small amount of merch back in late 2014- early 2015. It was a small merch company called Sanshee. The bigtime, in your face, walmart, mass produced shit didn't come out until late 2015. By that time 4 Fnaf games had released. As for Bendy, 3 chapters had released. Merch didn't really start until like late 2017. It was well into development, and had been around for a bit less than a year.

If you watched some glitch hunters for the first game you’d see that the ai is pretty bad. They follow a direct path for most of the game. If you manage to find an area that fits outside of that path you can dodge the ‘monster’ for that entire chase sequence. Kinda funny, even moist critikal did it in his playthrough, but it does show lazy coding.

    • @Xwartu
      @Xwartu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Glitching through objects isn’t lazy coding per se as much as it’s lazy environment creation. Basic collider coding is usually solid enough to avoid warping through an object’s normals, given the environmental artist actually placed the meshes properly.
