Xuans expressions were very on point and the emotions were flashing through the screen. The four of them are acting flawlessly and it is rare to see more than 2 leads matching the same energy and shining altogether in a drama. I lean towards Xuan in the first part but shifted to Jing afterwards and though I am not a fan of Xiang Lu's personality, I don't see him as the default rival of the main lead who is bound to be rejected in the end. I also feel bad for Fenglong even if there is no deep feeling between them. This is what a high budget drama should be, a catchy story enhanced by the acting capability of the actors. Zhi's strength in heavy drama was put to use. Deng Wei as more than a pretty face but also has a knack in drama. Wanyi is like vying for a best actor title with all those deep emotions he perfectly executed. Jianci as Bei and Lu just felt different in aura.
I feel so badly for CX and though I know circumstances won’t let he and XY be together, it still breaks my heart because of how much love they have for each other. Reminds me of the couple from Goodbye My Princess - another favorite drama of mine. Though it looks like CX is being selfish, the only reason he chose to be king was to protect the ones he loves and specifically XY. He saw without power his family members were killed and didn’t want that for XY. I think logically he told himself that he was prepared for what he had to sacrifice, but emotionally when it came to the actual loneliness and thoughts of losing XY, he just couldn’t bear it anymore. If you look at his personality, he really is the type of guy that would have been happy having a little wine shop next to XY’s medicinal clinic. But just as XY has abandonment issues because of her childhood trauma, CX also has traumatic issues from the deaths of his loved ones and the constant threat of death as a kid. He wants power only for safety and not for power sake, but the cost was the one person he loved most in the world. It’s just so sad. 😭😭😭

Cang Xuan never once asked her what she wanted. CX as king will always be embroiled into power struggles, court politics, and as his Queen, she'll inevitably face the same in harem. She never wanted that. All she wants is a carefree life which CX can never give her. I love how Grandfather and Houling king protect XY. Though they didn't spend much time with her, they understand and support her. Unfortunately CX never understood her. He's really selfish. The moment he choose power over love, he lost Xioayao Forever.
@@aisha-t2i if you watched S1, it was Xiaoyao who protected him. Even when in power, he deliberately let ppl know that she's Chi Chan's daughter. Causing her to loose her Hauling princess title and endangered her safty. He's gonna kill Jing just because Xiao yao wanted to marry him. His actions are brutal and selfish.
They are really great actors......he looks so miserable.....and desperate ....both are loving each other but something is not right somewhere....make them cannot be together.....
This scene is heartbreaking to me. One-sided, unrequited love. At times, I want to ship them together, but this can never be because XY has always considered him as a brother/family with no romantic feelings.

He constantly used her to get support for him becoming king and she kindly complied. He was jealous of her and Jing. He assigned a spy to her while he had an entourage to protect him, causing her to get assassinated. I can not stand his greedy, selfish character.
CX love for XY is childhood love and promises he made to his grandmother before she died,if CX really love XY he will let her have a happy life with the man she loves instead of killing him. Plus they are first cousins gross..
