DIOCESAN SHRINE OF THE FIVE WOUNDS OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST and the Devotion to the Five Wounds of Jesus Christ Propagated by Saint Gaspar Bertoni
Saint Gaspar Bertoni, born in Verona, Italy, on October 9, 1777, embarked on a remarkable journey of faith and devotion. Ordained as a priest on September 20, 1800, he, along with companions Fr. Giovanni M. Marani and layman Paolo Zanoli, received a generous donation on November 4, 1816. This donation was a church dedicated to the Stigmata of St. Francis of Assisi. In this sacred space, St. Gaspar Bertoni laid the foundation for the Congregation of the sacred Stigmata of Our Lord Jesus Christ, commonly known as the Stigmatines, dedicated to the Holy Spouses Mary and Joseph. Fr. Bertoni's spiritual devotion took a distinctive turn as he celebrated a week/y devotion not only to the Stigmata of St. Francis but specifically to the Five Wounds of Jesus Christ every Friday. His pious journey reached its conclusion with a holy death in Verona at 3:30 on a Sunday afternoon, June 12, 1853. His sanctity was officially recognized when Pope John Paul I canonized him in Rome on November 1, 1989, with his feast day celebrated annually on June 12.
The impact of St. Gaspar Bertoni's legacy extended beyond Italy. On June 1, 1985, in collaboration with Manila Archbishop H.E. Jaime ( Cardinal Sin, the Stigmatine Fathers in the Philippines established the only church in the country and Asia dedicated to the Sacred Stigmata of Our Lord Jesus Christ. +Rev. Fr. Danilo Panato, CSS, became the inaugural Parish Priest. Between 1989 and 1990, tho Stigmatine and Parish Community commissioned the original image of the Shrine Patron "Five Wounds of Jesus Christ."
Further testament to the devotion inspired by St. Gaspar Bertoni occurred on January 14, 2012, when Most Rev. Jesse E Morcado, D.D, Bishop of the Diocese of Paranaque, elevated the church to a Diocesan Shrine of tho Five Wounds of Our Lord Jesus Christ. +Rov. Fr. Donnis Jesus L Batacandolo, CSS, assumod tho role of tho first Shrine Rector. ombodying the enduring love and devotion of pooplo to tho Five Wounds of Josus Christ in modorn times. The feast day of this Shrine is joyously colebrated overy 3rd Sunday of Easter in tho Philippinos.

Jaime Cardinal Sin, D.D. upang pag-usapan ang pagtatag ng bagong Parokya Sa lugar ng Talon, Las Pinas. Ang Parokya ng Limang Sugat ni Kristo (Parish of the Five Wounds of Our Lord Jesus Christ), ay natatag noong ika-1 ng Hunyo 1985, ang kaunaunahan Parokya sa Pilipinas (at Asya) na nakatuon sa debosyon sa Kabanal-banalang Sugat ni Kristo.
Matapos ang halos tatlong dekada, naisulong ang pagtatalaga ng Parokya bilang isang Pandiyosesang Dambana noong ika-14 ng Enero 2012 sa pangunguna ni Most Rev. Jesse E. Mercado, D.D, Obispo ng Diyosesis ng Paranaque kasama ng kura paroko at unang rector ng dambana na si +Rov.Fr.Dennis Jesus L Batacandolo, Css (b. Jan. 31, 1956; prof. June 12 1992; ordin. Dec. 10, 1995; d. Sep. 8, 2020) sa tulong ng mga saksi at buhay na tipan na debosyon ng mga tao sa kabanal-banalang Limang Sugat ni Hesus. Ang Dambana ng Limang Sugat ni kristo ay siya rin kauna-unahang dambana sa lungsod ng las Pinas.
Ang "Relic of the True Cross of Jesus' ay isang handog na dala ng mga paring Stigmatinong misyonero noong ika-10 ng Oktubre 1984. Ang, tatlong unang mga paring Stigmatinong misyonero na sina +Rov.
