Love the then and now. Takes me back to my younger days when the world was a better and nicer place. Thanks for your efforts in helping me to relive my past.
Loved watching this video brought so many old memories back. I am 78yrs old and live in Australia to see the old home place was great. I was watching and watching for the Rothwell Church we were married there in 1966. Thank you for sharing
Just like walking back in time with the skillful mixing. Rothwell Urban District Council and Leeds City Council have such a lot to answer for. The castle area, Manor House, Manor Farm and pastures could have been so tranquil and dont get me started on my beloved railway.
Thank you for your enjoyable presentations. A couple of (covid/topical) footnotes: at the turn of the 19th century, Rothwell Haigh hospital was originally a Hunslet Union workhouse, and later, a part of it was used as a smallpox hospital. There was also a, smaller, 'isolation hospital' on Haigh Road and a, very small, dedicated smallpox hospital on Stye Bank Lane.
A great video Darren, good to see the DJI getting some use. Being 77 years old I remember a lot of the black & white images. Thanks for your time and effort you are putting in to bring us these videos.
Moved to the area a little over two years ago and it was obvious there was a long history to the place. It's great not only to see the old images of how it was but also how it is now. Great work 👍
Really enjoyed watching that soo many buildings knocked down that shouldn't have been .If only the tram system had been kept and updated too. Very skillful how you merge the old and new photographs makes you imagine what was there beforehand. 🤔🚎
Excellent then and now fades again. What strikes me is how much street clutter we have today. Yes there were telegraph poles and stanchions to support the overhead tram wires in times past but not the myriad of posts for road signs, parking restrictions, traffic lights, information, etc.
Yet another fabulous video, and especially the old and new comparison shots. Amazing match-ups!! Well done, and please keep up the great quality output. 👍
Well Darren that was incredible. I felt as though I was travelling in time. The haunting music in the background was atmospheric. Only way I can describe it. Absolutely fantastic. Thank you. Ps I was surprised to see they removed the Merket Cross and whale bones. Usually they are historical Things they don’t move.
They replaced the market cross with a reproduction round the corner and the jaw bones are still there just now on the opposite side of the road. So not too bad I suppose.
Brilliant!!!! A great deal of work went into this video but the end result must be a source of pride!!! Very well done! I particularly liked the way you slid from old to new and then back to the old. Keep up the good work!
Brilliant - the Past & Present videos are great. Amazing how many great old buildings have been replaced by not so great modern ones! Be interesting to do them again in 20 years.
I so prefer the old photos of areas they look so much better than whats there now in my town of Beith they demolished half of the town for a new road 40 to 50 years ago doh! keep it up love the videos
Absolutely brilliant. 1st class. Can you stick some dates on the old photos though, next time. Not picking fault, would be just nice to see what can be changed in 40 or 50 years.
Yet another fantastic video you put together there I’m intrigued about the jaw bones so where that at the opposite side to where there are standing today then I think read up before that they used to have them at the end of there garden but don’t quote me on it 😊
Your very welcome and I thought so I knew I wasn’t going mad lol those are new ones that are there now I think because the original ones rotted I do believe 😊
@@SJ-zf4mf ohhhh I didn’t know I’ve read up that there not but who am I to argue lol there still pretty and historical any how that’s all that matters 😊
Another great video. When you have time take a look at Heckmondwike, it has a surprising amount of historical buildings still standing and the fountain clock is very interesting too.
Wow that was fantastic I really enjoyed the past and present of Leeds or Rothwell I only ever came to Leeds to work in county arcade so I never So much of the town but it’s just fantastic to see how little some places have changed and other places I’ve changed out of all recognition, I wonder if they re-cited the market Cross or did they just knock it down
Another very interestingly video. My great Granddad lived in Castleford from an early age but was originaly born in Rothwell around 1890. Throughout his life he was known as Rod because he came from Rodill. I know Rothwell is Rodewelle in the doomsday book but any ideas where Rodill or Rodhill as in Rodilian comes from? .
This one brought back memories, my great aunt was a nurse at st georges for many years until her retirement, were the jaw bones situated near to the hospital? As I remember seeing them as a small child when we visited Rothwell.
hi Daz have you any old photos of Spibey lane ? my great grandfather had a small haulage yard there with petrol pumps in the 40's ? his name was Arthur Tiffany and is son Harry I've not much to go on but my dad told me they used their Bedford trucks to help move supplies in the war any information would be amazing I've trolled Leeds city library with no joy - chris
That music! Makes it all so epic... and a bit sad. The modern world is so drab! (although at least things like infant mortality rates aren't high, there are rights for all/most, and we have things like healthcare... still drab though haha)
Anyone's heart break when you see the transition to modern and realise that a magnificent building or row of houses has gone?
Yeh but rickets, outside toilets
True Matthew.
Worst is when a building is great piece of architecture is pulled down and either never replaced or replaced with something horrible.
Yes, that picture house especially
Yes it’s a shame 😔
Love the then and now. Takes me back to my younger days when the world was a better and nicer place. Thanks for your efforts in helping me to relive my past.
Thanks Anthony.
This was excellent...look forward to more Past and Present.
Thanks Jill. More coming.

Love these comparison videos, you match them perfectly every time. Quite sad to see some of the drastic changes to some of the areas.
Thank you!
You've done it again Daz, Brilliant. Thanks for taking so much effort. It must be a pain lining shots up but the results are priceless.
Many thanks. Yes it took some time.
Just like walking back in time with the skillful mixing.
Rothwell Urban District Council and Leeds City Council have such a lot to answer for.
The castle area, Manor House, Manor Farm and pastures could have been so tranquil and dont get me started on my beloved railway.
They certainly don’t seem to have missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity: Devastating incompetence it seems
All the same. Money talks.
@@AdventureMe Sadly so. But vandalism like that deserves to be called out. And it’s not about misplaced nostalgia, it’s about preserving our heritage.

The smallpox hospital is still there on Styebank. It is a private house now.
Don't forget the one down at the lost village of waterloo too, at the back of rothwell. I did a video on it.
I remember these places as well..
A great video Darren, good to see the DJI getting some use. Being 77 years old I remember a lot of the black & white images. Thanks for your time and effort you are putting in to bring us these videos.
Thanks Alan.
My Sunday evenings are: Building Blackpool Better, Martin Zero, Adventureme and John Rogers.
Glad you are a fan of those too. We watch the same stuff.

Thanks Ian. We need trams more than ever now.
Excellent video - really well done. I lived and grew up in Rothwell from 1965 to 1991.
All my family are Rothwell through and through...was lovely to see what it was like again..the change wow..unbelievable happy days
You have a great eye. Your attention to detail is amazing. I just love your work. Hi from Texas.
Thank you so much! Greetings to Texas.
Fascinating how much places change over time. Sometimes not for the best. Keep the videos coming excellent work as always 👍 👍
Thanks Stephen.
Live in rothwell lovely place mad to see how much it’s changed
That was great!! Loved the old images of the trams!!! Are the Jaw Bones still up Wood Lane?
Yes still there, just opposite side of the road now.
Yes jaw bones are still there..couldn't imagine them not being there
Excellent then and now fades again. What strikes me is how much street clutter we have today. Yes there were telegraph poles and stanchions to support the overhead tram wires in times past but not the myriad of posts for road signs, parking restrictions, traffic lights, information, etc.
Yeha I agree. Too much clutter and H&S now.

Another pleasant trip back in time. Thank you Darren.
Love it....
Just wish it was longer.😀
Plenty more coming.
Amazing absolutely really enjoyed this! Fading in and out made it more interesting too. 😎
Thanks Sue.
Excellent again. Mad to think that 400ish years ago Rothwell was seen as bigger and more important than Leeds
Absolutely. Thanks.
From a Canadian who's family is from Yorkshire & Lancs... Thanks for the great work.
Thank you. Greetings to Canada.
Another excellent video. Can't get enough of the past and present vlogs you've been doing recently. Keep em coming 👍

Made me cry a little. Rothwell line old office. Spent many a night working there. Now its a morrisons 😭
Lots of memories in these photos.

Left Rothwell for Cornwall 4 years ago, this channel is my "little slice of home" Please don't stop making them.
I won't mark. Jealous that you live in Cornwall though.
Brilliant project! Love to see many more like this. I’m in the USA
Awesome! Thank you!
Great job Darren, that's not easy and you did extremely. Thank you for you efforts!!!

So true. Sad to see.
Great video ( a lot of work went into that.)
Thanks! Yes many hours.
Jaw bones replaced by traffic/crossing lights. It makes you want to weep. Really moving video.
It sure does.
30 years ago they were the opposite side of the road, have they gone now?
@@jasonlee3247 no. Still there on the other side.
Loved it rothwell lad born and breed here loved your videos
Glad you enjoyed it
It is always surprising how quickly things can disappear. The older "Picture Palace" snap shows a 1990s bus shelter - which has gone too.
I know. All change for morrisons.
Another superb offering Darren 😀👍👏👏👏 Just love the “Then, now, and then again” this master stroke saves constant pausing/ rewinding👍😀👏👏
Brilliant mate , bet it took ages but well worth it
Thanks Nix. It sure did.
Picture Palace is still there just a bit further down from lidle. Was a play area and now a work uniform shop
That's a different one. This is the one in Rothwell centre.
I really enjoy how good you do these Darren.
Thanks mate
Nicely done. I used to live on Spibey Lane and understand it was previously known as Windmill Road.
Thanks Simon.
This is brilliant stuff again, Daz.
Love anything like this.
Keep up the good work, pal.

Its great looking back on these old photos! Clean streets, little amount if any cars, a better transport network.
Couldn't agree more!

THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU for the time and effort you put into this. incredible work, hat off to you sir.
No problem. I have done a few others too. Thanks for watching
St George’s hospital pic, you can see my old house in the bottom left in St George’s Crescent.
Another expertly curated montage of scenes, past and present, showing perhaps, that all time is eternally present. More please! Well done!

Awesome, thank you!

They knocked it down Ron, and built a replica nearby. I think it was badly damaged in an accident or something.
this was really good keep it up and please can you do Woodlesford next
It's on my radar soon. x

awesome darren lets hope the 10k comes very soon you are nearly at the summit
So close!
