this is the best T34 instructions video on the Internet. Just used it to make sure I was doing it right. Clear simple demonstration. Brilliant. Thanks very much.

Thank you. I was in need of a bit of refresher training after several years of not setting up one of these. Thanks to your clear guidance, I have a little more confidence when I am out in the community by myself.

Where does the syringe driver rest when it’s being used in the community setting? Is it ok to be on the bed? Any tips for managing it when doing a continence slip pad change?

You can get little pouches which can be attached to the patient's clothes using a safety pin, but that's not approved by the manufacturer in case staff don't notice and traumatically remove the line when removing the clothing. Some people use a small shoulder pouch, like a tiny shopping bag, and my local hospital had volunteers make some for us. In the community it's fine for it to rest on the bed; I used to pop it in a pillow case and tuck it in next to the patient. You can get extensions for lines if needed.

How do you restart the medication if the device had been running for over 6 hours and the driver becomes faulty and needs changing

How many patients get killed in a year on average due to errors in using this machine?

      A lot.

@@KingCnut1016 To be fair, the vast majority of people on syringe drivers are receiving end of life care. I've searched for evidence on the number of people dying from errors in dose or set-up, but I can't find any studies.

Errors in prescribing or in operation happen, but for the life of me I can't find any conclusive evidence regarding numbers. I know that the previous model used to give a bolus dose then shut down if left in direct sunlight, and a safety notice was issued to keep them in a pouch. However, one bolus shouldn't be enough to end someone's life.
