This victory was historical for Finnish hockey, not only did Finland medal and win gold for the first time on home ice but this gold medal was the final medal Valtteri Filppula needed to become the first Finnish member of the triple gold club

I guess the Finns remembers the final in 1994 (Canada vs Finland) when Bin'Amor tripped Kurri and scored (tied the game and Canada won the gold). Finland was so badly robbed the referees publicly apologized. Or the final in Minsk 2015. It just happens in hockey
The referees of this match are notoriously shit, bad calls on both sides.

As a Finn I must give huge respect to team Canada for that comeback from 3-1 to 3-3, they fought well and showed their strenght. They had also unfortunate events like main goalie injury and still managed to recover. Great and thrilling game indeed.

Totally agree about the game - exiting and good hockey. I do not agree about the refs. Canada should have had a penalty from interfierance when one of FI players was pushed so that the goal was moved - it was a 100% penalty but the goat was accepted etc. But the call for a hitting a FI player with a stick to the face was not correct - it was fi players stick. The last call tripping the fi player was correct - fi player Filppula got a penalty from exact the same earlier in the game.

Yeah they messed up OT too, that Finnish player acted like he was playing soccer with the way he crumpled under Chabot. VAR is a must for hockey, too often are refs a part of the game for no reason

Wasn't it some crazy hooking? Anyways last years OT referees were just disgustingly terrible, two obvious penalties for canada left out. And Canada won. It happens nearly every game though. The refs are still just humen, and this game wasn't too bad (and it was a lil shit for both sides)
@@valdu6759 i dont think he was arguing that it was not a penalty. However, it should have been offsetting minors. The hook and either unsportsmanlike for the flop or tripping for grabbing Chabot's leg. Unfortunate that the refs decided to make callls in favor of only one team tonight. Guess that's what happens when you have European referees officiating a European team in the final.

No denying that the refs did a shitty job in this game, but at least their fuck-ups benefited both sides somewhat equally. Aside from that this was the best game of the tournament in my opinion.
I was a bit sad because I wanted Barzal to win, but Finland winning in front of their home crowd and actually caring was pretty cool.
Lets see what kind of canada-finland final we have in 2023. The game was very thrilling and both teams would’ve deserved win. This time we got the win!
