The NIH did a study a few years ago. The results were that glucosamine was of some help in moderate to severe arthritis, but not helpful in mild arthritis. They found chondroitin to be ineffective because it simply did not get to where it needed to go.
I remember reading a German study where someone took chondroitin and glucosamine with magnesium every day for two years and it helped reverse some of the disk bulging in their neck. I think they also made them drink more water and get more exercise. They showed step by step comparisons of the cervical spine and how it improved over time.

I was told y a few pharmacists and doctors that Glucosamine, other than the placebo effect is totally useless. I say otherwise from my own experience. My knees are weak from years of exercises and Glucosamine helps me to maintain the pain and allows me to keep active. It was once that I ran out of Glucosamine that I realized how much it worked on me.
Brands also make a difference. If I had stopped after my first brand, I wouldn't have run 500 miles last year. Found a brand that actually worked and it changed my life.
@@riseshine6225 Every body is different, so I can only say that of the brands I tried, this one was a stark difference. Walmart Spring Valley is the one that worked very well with my body.
I injured my ribs earlier this year and had lingering issues with sprained rib cartilage. Since taking glucosamine, my ribs feel better, but I also have zero morning stiffness and feel like I’m in my 20s again. Also less soreness after lifting at the gym. Definitely works for me, not a placebo effect. Also nice that it’s extremely affordable.

I gotta say, after fairly dramatic improvement in my dog I started taking it in 2008. After several months of a daily dosage I noticed a very significant improvement in outcome while on hiking adventures. Previous to taking it I was limited to around 5 miles per day, followed by Ibuprofen as an anti inflammatory so I could make the return hike the following day. I can now go 10-15 miles without significant joint pain and this has allowed me to maintain high activity levels at age 67. For $10/month I am relieved of joint pain and rarely need to follow up with Ibuprofen. Actual response to G&C or a placebo effect? I don't really care. Quality of life is greatly improved with G&C supplements.
There benefits of K2, D3, and magnesium are much clearer. There is no doubt that most people do not get enough magnesium, and the D3, and K2 vitamins help regulate bone structure.
I am wondering whether or not we see Cartlidge regeneration from taking it. I have mild OA in my left hip, from too many kicks, and have been taking it for about two weeks now. It does seem to be helping, already.
We don't believe that it will regenerate cartilage -we recommend that people use it to "oil" joints to allow for better movement and flexibility. If a person does not see improvement after a month, stop using it. Dr. Haynes says that about 50% of his patients who use it will see improvement. Thanks for your question!

A doctor who is not pro or con, fantastic. The issue with so many supplements is how slowly they work. I had to take glucosamine, chondroitin, msn for three months before there was pain reduction, that is a long time. I have read many of the studies and they don't have the subjects take the supplement long enough. Also, the studies done in the US are all over the place, the studies done in Europe find more positive results, what is that all about? Also, the brand you take matters.
Does a placebo effect mean, take this medicine and see if your brain "thinks" you're better but there has really been no difference at all to your joint health (for example)? Or do you believe it may simply benefit some (up to 50%) of patients who take it, but simply does not work for others?

@@RubenBJJ96 My friend has a torn meniscus and has bad knee cartilage too, so it is pretty serious. So i am wondering whether the tablets would be good for him or not..
I don’t believe it’s a placebo effect. I literally couldn’t sleep at night because my hips ached so bad now my hips are not aching, and I can sleep on my side again could not raise one of my arms over my head without it, locking up after taking realized I lifted my arm and it didn’t lock. Could not go up and down the stairs without my knees, hurting and having to hold the railing. Now run up and down the stairs no problem. This isn’t really mind over matter. It’s whether it works or it doesn’t work.
Thank you for sharing your experience 🙏 Really appreciate it, as I also really struggle to believe that such benefits can be attributed merely to placebo. Would you mind sharing how long you took this for to witness such an improvement? I've started very recently (about a week ago) and whilst I know every body reacts differently, I'd love to know how long it took for you to feel such a difference. Thank you so much for helping others with your insight 🙏. Best wishes your way from the UK!
I'm trying making my own chondroitin from beef bone joint cartilage, boiling it, then taking it like bone broth. But looking at the joint cartilage itself I would say cartilage repairs itself from cells deep within the layer of cartilage and hence will take a long time to replace itself. If the arthritis seems better after a short time, I would tend to think dietary chondroitin would be affecting inflammation around the joint. I must try and understand how a layer of cartilage repairs itself.
@@JoeLouisPepsi That is interesting. Where did you hear this can you recall? Chondroitin is the break down of boiling cartilage, which is a version of the protein Collagen II. Different species have different molecular weight chondroitin molecules.
But a person cannot regenerate Hyaline cartilage without let's say multipotent (stem cells like the ones from the amnion of the placenta) perhaps I think.
Interesting question that I haven’t gotten a definitive answer to. But if it masks the symptoms, it’s more than half the battle and I guess one can experiment with oneself with xrays taken every few years. That’s what I plan on doing. I used to take glucosamine in my 20s and was not sure if it actually worked. Now that I have hip arthritis, I plan on giving it a try again.
I've heard the same from other doctors in my city, and I've tried it for back issues, but I didn't seem to get any better. I've been trying other supplements like collagen + vitamin c thank you for sharing your honest opinion!!
I've had it help me more than any other supplement i've tried. I have taken it for 8 years, combined with type 2 collagen and fish oil. In clinical trials, glucosamine was head to head in efficacy with celecoxib - at something like the 1 month mark. What i found is that it has to be taken continuously for a long time to work. The reason is, it's not a painkiller, it is one of the building blocks of cartilage, so it helps the body do the limited amount of repair and regeneration that it's capable of. For me, it has slowed down the progression of my osteoarthritis pretty significantly and bought me a lot of time to get my knees and hips fixed.
I am sure this MD is imminently qualified in his field. However, regarding his knowledge and understanding of the actions, contraindications and physiological chemistry of natural supplements I think the doctor is woefully under qualified. I remain unconvinced in the benefits of natural supplements per this vid..
When I do push-ups my right wrist tends to hurt every time. It hurts right where the wrist bends at the middle if the wrist or the ball in the wrist. Is it tendinitis. Cause in highschool we did front squat but I wasn't flexible enough to hold the bar on my shoulders so I had to hold it on my wrist. And I was usually doing up to 160 to 170 pounds. Is my wrist ruined for life?
What is the cause of joint pain? Obviously it’s not a glucosamine deficiency. Shouldn’t we treat the cause instead of the symptoms? Since supplements aren’t regulated and can be dangerous isn’t it better to address diet and lifestyle first? Read this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinical_trials_on_glucosamine_and_chondroitin

I've heard of amny different supplements for many many things and was skeptical but tried this because a friend who I trust was a very long time sufferer of four different types of arthgritius and recommended these supplements
Thanks for your honesty. I am taking it and it eases pain
I was told y a few pharmacists and doctors that Glucosamine, other than the placebo effect is totally useless. I say otherwise from my own experience. My knees are weak from years of exercises and Glucosamine helps me to maintain the pain and allows me to keep active. It was once that I ran out of Glucosamine that I realized how much it worked on me.
the pain only attacks me worse when it is cold weather
Brands also make a difference. If I had stopped after my first brand, I wouldn't have run 500 miles last year. Found a brand that actually worked and it changed my life.
What brand do you recommend?
@@lindajackson4621 for me it was the Walmart Spring Valley brand that was the only one that worked.
Thank you so much I'm headed to Walmart now God Bless you.
@@lindajackson4621 Any luck?
@@riseshine6225 Every body is different, so I can only say that of the brands I tried, this one was a stark difference.
Walmart Spring Valley is the one that worked very well with my body.
I injured my ribs earlier this year and had lingering issues with sprained rib cartilage. Since taking glucosamine, my ribs feel better, but I also have zero morning stiffness and feel like I’m in my 20s again. Also less soreness after lifting at the gym. Definitely works for me, not a placebo effect. Also nice that it’s extremely affordable.
there is ZERO scientific evidence that it helps at all - so, yes, it's 'all in your head' - sorry

Since having a shingles vaccine my body is full of aches and pains I can’t lift arm to get items out of cupboards and have to clime up stairs on hands and knees come down stairs on bottom been in hospital twice. But doctors can’t find out what’s wrong 😱🙏help 🙏
Please stop taking these vaccines. It isn’t about health to them. It is about money. May God help bring you discernment and healing.
Possible Lymes
Anyone in the uk lookin for these supplements. British supplements have them at high doses with no filler crap . Expensive but worth it .
good for you most guys in white coats say it CAN.T work.." studies show"
I gotta say, after fairly dramatic improvement in my dog I started taking it in 2008. Quality of life is greatly improved with G&C supplements.
i remember a good buddy of mine from the hs football team told me to take this and never forgot as it has helped me since then 2006
There benefits of K2, D3, and magnesium are much clearer.

Fine let's try.
If it helps placebo or not then it's worth it.But also it might not work on some people as it might not be what they need.
If its placebo you might as well take sugar pills, label them as 'joint cure' and save yourself a lot of money.
I've tried just about everything out there for my arthritic fingers, sore wrists & dodgy knee, the only thing that made any noticeable difference is NZ green lipped mussel capsules around 1000mg :)
What type arthritis is it brother
@@sambyrne7542 It's Osteo & mainly in my hands, fingers & left knee from an old football injury, i'm an old tradie & dirtbike rider (70). I thought i might have to stop some activities i do, the Green Lipps a re working really well & i can still ride dirtbikes, mtb & boogy board in the surf in Summer :)
Thanks for your amazing information.
I had so much back pain nothing worked. Until I took glucosamine. It really helped
Where abouts is your back pain? I have degenrative disc disease in my lumbar spine and I'm doing research as to see if this would help it.
@@Beau1990bonjour est ce que vous avez essayé le glucosamine s’ils vous plait ?
@@moukatenini9634 I'm sorry friend I don't speak French.
@@Beau1990 Okay, I asked you have you tried glucosamine please?
@@moukatenini9634 yes I did it was a combination of glucosamine chondroitin and MSM and it works really well. I take it daily now. I also take tumeric, D3+K2, magnesium, and vitamin C. Hope this helps 🙂
Hello, can you name a product that rebuilds vertebral cartilage?
Whats a good dosage? And do you recommend adding MSM?
Thank you doctor.
Yes for 15 years for me.
Does a placebo effect mean, take this medicine and see if your brain "thinks" you're better but there has really been no difference at all to your joint health (for example)? Or do you believe it may simply benefit some (up to 50%) of patients who take it, but simply does not work for others?
Note that it works in animals. Animals can't have a placebo effect.
honest video...thank you
I have a messed up knee from doing wrestling (it clicks and crunches) and I also have clicky shoulders and hips. I'm going to be starting Glucosamine Chondrotin HCL in about 2 days so I'll try to remember to let people know how it goes
Hi! Any updates with this?
@@djdill21 I've been taking it for a good while and it's not done anything yet. I think my problem is a more serious injury though, I do martial arts so I think it's meniscus or something

@@djdill21 probably not , it probably helps and who knows maybe over the next few months it will help it
Did It help ???
Thank you! Any specific brands that are recommended?
Check out Thorne supplements.
I don’t know how the placebo effect can work on a dog? 😅
I hear pineapple has a fair amount of chrondroitin
@@JoeLouisPepsi That is interesting. Where did you hear this can you recall? Chondroitin is the break down of boiling cartilage, which is a version of the protein Collagen II. Different species have different molecular weight chondroitin molecules.
Did it work for you
I’m pretty sure it has helped me to some extent.
before and after imaging is the true way to measure regeneration - idk if it exists for this supplement
Of you're convinced already it doesn't work can the placebo effect still take place ?
My doctor told me I should take one a day as a prophylactic but 6 a day to cure some sort condition
I'm sold bc I need help. Every joint seems to hurt these days
It is a blessing..GCS❤❤❤
placebo affect in animals ? Sounds about right
3 days in and I feel less knee pain, almost gone
Honestly speaking in 1 day time I got an ease up that's why I am here lol
Amazing! that was a really quick response! Hope you are still good after 3 years :)
Thank you Doc.
How does the placebo effect work on the animals ?
But a person cannot regenerate Hyaline cartilage without let's say multipotent (stem cells like the ones from the amnion of the placenta) perhaps I think.
does it heal the joints or does it masks the symptoms ?
Interesting question that I haven’t gotten a definitive answer to. But if it masks the symptoms, it’s more than half the battle and I guess one can experiment with oneself with xrays taken every few years. That’s what I plan on doing. I used to take glucosamine in my 20s and was not sure if it actually worked. Now that I have hip arthritis, I plan on giving it a try again.
No he said it helps to increase the fluid to the joints and cartilage I believe.
How can an animal tell you if it's feeling any better?
I guess if the animal had trouble walking or standing up, and now it moves better!
🤔
Behavior. Normal animal behavior indicates a happy healthy animal. Sleeping, feeding, scratching, playing, running, etc.
Aww you were watching this for an animal. What a lovely soul
This DR is AWWESOME :D
I've heard the same from other doctors in my city, and I've tried it for back issues, but I didn't seem to get any better. I've been trying other supplements like collagen + vitamin c
thank you for sharing your honest opinion!!
Take it atleast for 1 month bitch...don't listen to these stupid doctors
Utrician liquid joints is good. A lot of athletes use it to manage joint pain. I feel like it strengthens my nails and makes. My skin soft too.
Thanks great video
The key is..get a good brand..the cheap brands dont work...
only if you take alot it has to build up cartilage matrix
Thank you!
I am sure this MD is imminently qualified in his field. However, regarding his knowledge and understanding of the actions, contraindications and physiological chemistry of natural supplements I think the doctor is woefully under qualified. I remain unconvinced in the benefits of natural supplements per this vid..
So it might work or it might not work. Thanks. I really know more now than before I watched this. 😐
It helps me a lot with my arthritis
If you have a shell fish allergy you should NOT use glucosamine/chondroitin supplements!
Does Glucosamine Chondroitin have an effect on one's kidneys?
Just started it today. I guess I'll find out?
Did it work?
I took it and found relief after 30 days

When I do push-ups my right wrist tends to hurt every time. It hurts right where the wrist bends at the middle if the wrist or the ball in the wrist. Is it tendinitis. Cause in highschool we did front squat but I wasn't flexible enough to hold the bar on my shoulders so I had to hold it on my wrist. And I was usually doing up to 160 to 170 pounds. Is my wrist ruined for life?
Hope the doc is not on the supplement payroll.
Strange conclusion on the article: “Despite the difficulty in determining the efficacy of glucosamine, it remains a viable treatment option.[12]”
That’s from Wikipedia though. And that site isn’t something one should bank on for accurate information as anyone can change and add things on there.
Does it repair or heal cartilage?
Thank you
Does this increase your spine disk height and water content in them? Will this help keep your morning height for longer making you 1 cm taller? along with increasing cartilage thickness?
Steve B fucking midget..
Some studies shown increased disc water content and obviously height after 2 years of use.
