Mammoet load out Aasta Hansteen Living Quarters

Mammoet has been working on the “Aasta Hansteen Living Quarters” manufactured by CKT Projects. In 2013 Mammoet was awarded with the contract for providing and supplying the construction site and lifting equipment for this project. The living quarters (LQ) provides facilities such as housing and a medical center for the first deep-water platform to be erected in the North Sea near Norway. CKT Projects appointed Mammoet’s Heavy Lift Terminal in Schiedam as the construction site for the LQ.

Gents, please explain why need spacer barge? I am thinking that the Width of HTV is not enough for trailers on HTV before come to designed position, is it correct?

It might have been to match the height of the deck of the ship.

The ship could not be lowered enough to drive straight on, so they had to drive onto the barge, raise the barge, then drive onto the ship.
