I have calculated in Excel and return on investment is identical if dividend is reinvested.

If growth (post inflation, taxes/expenses & dividend payout) beats inflation annually, then I think many people will invest their retirement corpus in dividend small case. Currently, people invest their retirement money in fix return retirement plans, as of now there are no retirement plans that increase pension payout annually. So basically current retirement plans make you poor with time.
