I know it would be adding an extra step, but, for negative values aka Western Hemisphere, instead of subtracting, you can use the same formula used for lat vales, but when finished, simply multiply your DD by -1 and convert that way.
Thanks a lot for this educational video. One thing I discovered after banging my head against the wall for a while is that depending on which "quarter" of the world you are in the +/- may be different for your decimal degrees. For example I am in South Africa, therefore south of the equator and east of the Greenwich Meridian so my latitude DDs need to be negative and my longitude DDs positive, which is the opposite to Moulay's example, as he must be based somewhere like the US (i.e. north of the equator, west of the GM. Otherwise very helpful, thanks!
Thanks for this; your example was excellent; and now I know how to do this. I was quite easy; thanks again for putting this resource up for others. Well done; excellent work!
Good stuff. Is there a way to take a coordinate and reduce the digits, but keep the N or S at the end. For instance Let's say I have a 8 grid coordinate 3400N 2100W and I wanted to remove the 00 and at the end of the first and only 1 0 from the second and end up with 34N 210W is there a simple formula (conditional formatting or something I can do that could be applied to the cell?
In my case I am in north America so it is west of the prime meridian and negative. Depends what hemisphere you are in. The west and south are negative. The north and east positive.
Nice, but how does one work with a -00d20m35s latitude...? Similar to negative declinations in astronomy. This technique does bot handle this particular case.
i am trying to do something similar but my decimals are not lining up to separate. i tried to separate everything but it is over 15k rows. Any idea on how to do this? Thanks
Dennis Thacker You should check out my other video where I make DD to DMS, it does the function of separating out the degrees from the decimal portion you need. th-cam.com/video/uOW88OfGhDs/w-d-xo.html
@@sounny never hurts to provide the actual file in the video description below. haha. But thanks, really! For teaching me this. It's a little frustrating that Excel doesn't have a built-in formula for conversions like that. I can't imagine it to be too complicated.
Nice work on this. My only recommendation would be is to use a HD capture program. It's a little tough to read and follow along. Please keep up the good work, well done.
Thank you for this! quick solution to a two day headacke! I did the first step a little different tough, because my coordinates didnt align very well on account of different number of characters - so i couldnt use the fixed with very well - i first selected the two original columns and substituted º ' " and N/W with instead of deleting them after the separation. :)
hey #moulay_anwar.....i want to enter in the format cell the latitude and longitude and how to enter them correctly to covert them into decimal Please i want Fast reply for My own own work i want to finish it fast Furthermore, i want to add sybol to the lat/long like N Or W
You helped me out of a jam but you didn't have your wallet turned on for me to send a payment. You seriously were a godsend, Thank you. Next time I hope I can pay you!
You can easily convert degree minute second values into decimal degrees value in Microsoft Excel instantly. The length and amount of data is not a problem at all. You can even convert degree-minute-second readings with garbage into decimal degrees within just a matter of click. See the video- th-cam.com/video/2uVkE_mReBM/w-d-xo.html
I subtracted for the west, but for east just add instead. Use the formula for the north on the east and the formula from the west on the south and it will work for you.
Brilliant! I've been working with Excel for years and I never knew the text-to-columns function! Great solution.

Thanks. This is cool

Thank you teacher, you saved 3 days time for me.
This is still the easiest and most precise explanation on this. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you so much, Only 1 question: for Southern Hemisphere is simply just put negative on the formula?
May you please tell me why you put -ve sign in front?
In my case I am in north America so it is west of the prime meridian and negative. Depends what hemisphere you are in. The west and south are negative. The north and east positive.
Thanks a ton for this! Been trying for hours to figure this out and your video helped immensely.

if I am having a range of latitude for example 22º15' - 22º58' N the which value I should consider. Kindly reply soon

email me a few lines of it in an excel sheet, I have to see it in order to advice. sounny@gmail.com

Thank you for this! I knew how to do the math formulas, but the first portion was very helpful to get my data out of the degree/minute format!
Thank you very much. Excellent step by step description 👏🏾❤️🫶🏾
Simple but yet didactical thanks a lot
Hi Thanks for Video. Whats the reason for the No value pop up?
It means there is something wrong with formula. You are pointing to a blank cell?
Wouldn't it be simpler to just post the Excel sheet somewhere for download ?? :-)
go on then
You can give people a fish and they eat for one day, you can teach them to fish and they eat their whole life.

Wow! You just saved me so much time! Thank you!
Great work!! Can you send the calculation to convert DDM (Degree* Decimal. Minutes') to DD (Decimal Degrees)? Thank you so much!
You just saved me a lot of time. Thanks a lot. Cheers!
Thanx a lot bro It worked perfectly. U saved me a lot of time

+Kevin Kev will do in the future, this was one of my first captures with quicktime.
Okay then, if it’s not a fixed what we can do ??
I'm amazed! Thanks man :)
Thanks,,but how you split the no. in the data option.. text... it was very fast didn't get it ... Thanks again
Thank you! Easy and helpful tutorial :-)
How to do reverse of that
Thank you for this! quick solution to a two day headacke! very good...it is very useful

Thanks dude! Now I can sleep...
Thank you. This was a very quick easy and extremely helpful tutorial and a cinch compared to trying to manually convert multiples individually!
Thank you man that is amazing help!
You helped me out of a jam but you didn't have your wallet turned on for me to send a payment. You seriously were a godsend, Thank you. Next time I hope I can pay you!
Thank you - just created a conversion of angles for my shadow calculations using your video with relative ease !!

😘😘😘 thanks
thank you brother
birilliant thank you
THANKS
nice. thanks.
Lat long to utm please sir
nice
your formula doesn't account for South and East
I subtracted for the west, but for east just add instead. Use the formula for the north on the east and the formula from the west on the south and it will work for you.
EX-EL-Ent!!!! Thank you!
Thank you very much
Thank you so much!
