Yes, I got my Zen U Saturday along with the fate. It’s flipping STRONG. I don’t think I’ve stared at a urethane covering that much before. It scares me a bit. I’ll try more forward roll next time I practice with it. Maybe this ball would benefit from a weaker surface too if needed. Should be fun sanding it down and playing around with it.
"Throw your shot and good things will happen." When I'm losing focus or have a high pressure situation, this is my go to. It turns my mind off and let's the body do its thing. It's not 100% but it helps.
They gave two handers a urethane that can hook out of this world. You can play way left of everyone if you have a high rev rate. Especially on the short.
I am waiting to see what kind of ball motion Jason belmonte will produce using Zen U, he loves playing deep and this ball would suit his game style better than his Pitch black. And also the carry for this ball is going to be crazy as it cover alot of boards. Thanks for the great review Jimoo!
Being 67 and having a stroke and losing fine motor skills on the right side and cutting off my right index finger I just hope to keep the ball on the lane.
Just started bowling after 11 years. My average has been 140. Purple hammer got me a 189, 199, and 265 last week. My first 653 series. Can't put it down now. Two handed bowler by the way.
So what is your average now? I just back into it after 10yrs I’m a 159avg. I currently use the Stealth Black and the Legion by Track. I’m thinking about getting the Hammer and changing over to two- handed , I’m a Lefty by the way.
This ball has no business on a short pattern. People hear "urethane" and they immediately think it'll be good for a short pattern, but that's only half the equation. Urethane only works on short patterns with a low-flaring core. Low flare means tight oil rings, which gives the ball oil to roll on when it hits the dry, which minimizes the reaction on the dry. The Zen U core has a much higher differential than the Pitch Black or Purple Hammer, so the oil rings are separated. The Zen U effectively gives you that "first shot with urethane always goes crazy" EVERY TIME because fresh cover is hitting the dry every time you throw it. People have to get out of that urethane = short patterns mindset. It's lazy thinking, and it's not doing anyone any favors. Jimoo is spot on - this is a fantastic house shot ball.
Excellent post. That's why he had more success getting more end over end. That tightens up the flare. It is monster on house shots. I think it's way too responsive to be very good on most sport patterns.
Check rack. Visualize line. Then close eyes and open them in mamba mode and tell myself "time to bury this shot and bury these mother effers we're facing" xD
After not bowling for 27 years, I have lost my muscle memory. Therefore, I am still thinking about too many things......1) cross over step, 2) relaxed arm swing, 3) elbow in, 4) little head movement, and 5) keep balanced on release. Only averaging 190 when I used to average 210 to 215 27 years ago. Hopefully, I will get everything down to muscle memory once more, so I can just think about my hand release and my mark LOL. A long way to go.

Anyways thanks for the heads up because I will get the Zen U, because I use my UC3 a lot (2-3game) because I don’t have to worry about my teammates their all right handed. I’ve got the purple hammer & 1 NIB, also UC3 NIB, and one I’m using. So if your lefty I will be looking for your comments. I am open to all balls.✌🏼
If I'm not mistaken doesn't a brand new urethane ball hook way more than it will after a handful of games get bowled on it??? If that is the case than this is not an accurate comparison
Zen U Hooks so much I want how it compares to the UC3 and Pitch Black. Not very Ideal for Fresh Short Patterns. The pitch Black is a better option for Short patterns
Yeah, Zen U is just too strong for short patterns like this. You basically got into the same trouble you would get into if you were using a strong resin ball, over/under. Pitch and Purple are much better choices for short as they are closer to true, smooth, controlled urethane reaction. But once we get into medium length patterns and even a house shot, Zen U can excel.

I have the Pitch Black and Zen U. I use the PB on short and Zen U on flatter patterns between 38-42 feet.
Great review as always. I play pretty straight so my Pitch Purple urethane has been a great spare ball for me.

i believe the urethane shell also has some solid reactive which is probably another cause of the strong hook
It does. The pitch black is urethane but out of the newer balls the Brunswick family are the only ones with true urethane

I have all of them. The Zen U out hooks the UC3....alot stronger off the spot. The UC3 is probably 2 more than the purple. Left handed though.

Again , this not a urethane ball. It is s solid, that tries to be as controllable as urethane. That's why the ball motion is evidently so different.
