As a machinist "The E-Stop is not working" might be the most terrifying thing I've ever heard.
Its up there with being a nuclear physicist during project trinity and saying "The atmosphere is on fire"
I'm not a machinist, but I'm a steelworker, and it's equally scary for us.
Yeah I’d say the EE on this project is not actually an EE… or shouldn’t be. There were multiple apparent drive faults, a runaway motor, something lost its smoke, and an incorrect e-stop circuit. On top of that the drive evidently could be restarted to the point is looked good to go. (Surely there’s something they’re not telling us?)
The drive isn’t sized right for the application and/or is incorrectly tuned and the safety circuit… isn’t safe. And whoever is in charge of the set, if even one person on site doesn’t know about the generator e-stop, no one should be bragging about running a safe site…
Terrifying failures of giant death machines with people running around not knowing what to do isn’t entertainment.
@@jazzman782000 I mean I was entertained
@@jazzman782000 whats the worst that could happen? they are in a steel crate, and the plexiglass guards them too. they are a fair distance away and even if it catches fire, they would stop it and run away. i know embers can go very far, but it isnt likely the forest will catch fire that far away.
Something so incredibly poetic about the surfboard going for it's last ride, absolutely ripping waves in that blender. RIP, overwhelmingly Aussie surfboard. You were a legend.

Y’all need a second channel to cover the engineering design/build process of making these things and review how they perform.
🤨🤨🤨 I think it’s best for em to not show how to make a human blender 🤨🤨🤨🤨
Love this idea
@@whyismynamehereI mean, it’s not exactly rocket surgery - put big sharp thing on big spinny thing..
@@Ben-rq5re I know but probably best not to show how it was made or what parts where used
I always loved how over engineered everything they make seems (until they inevitably break it). Quite a bit of thought goes into making these projects as awesome and as safe as they can make them.
As someone who works with heavy machinery and VFD/VSD's, I felt Herron's line "E-stop didn't turn it off, E-Stop has to turn it off!" in my bones.
When the E-stop didn't turn it off but started going even faster, I got flashbak to the HBO Chernobl series when they pressed AZ-5 and the reactor exploded! Scary...
Hopefully they fix it and are more careful about e-stops in the future
The problem is the cavalier attitude telling their fans (some of which are qualified engineers) not to worry because we unplugged it and have multiple safe guards in place right before they have a near miss. The engineering team(assuming there is one)behind this needs to release a video on what they’re doing to fix this to rectify almost killing someone. And they need to do it by the book with s as proper risk assessment and safeguards. Not following LOTO is as basic as it gets.
that's the first line of code you implament, if you followed a "siemens" step 7 plc course.
Safety.
@@spacekb17 "Almost killing someone" is a hilarious over exaggeration.
Props to whoever’s idea it was to make a giant blender because this vid was absolutely incredible.
Also, when a giant machine with blades overheats and the EMERGENCY STOP DOESN’T STOP IT… I’d be freaking out too😅
14:00 mm, my favorite lighting. the foreground is sunlit while the background is dark and stormy.
"That fridge blended surprisingly well" is not a thought I anticipated ever going through my mind.
i said it to myself and then thought why would anyone else have that thought lmao
Well it's mostly just plastics and light weight metal. Apart from the pumps.
It stopped ththough
The surfboard taking its last ride till the end inside of a blender was poetic 😂

Yep, I'd be hitting the merch shop big time for one of those.
Dean the fabricator built something even he didn’t think would survive and it handled better than any body expected lol I thought for sure that was the end of it😂😂
I’d love to see a separate TH-cam channel of them making these cool machines
That was the most epic of endings. I reckon you pumped the power so high the circuit bridged between the input and output sides and bypassed everything that could stop it. I bet if you had a camera under the vcd, youd have seen some terrific arcs
This! Was looking for someone to say this. Your name checks out
Probably gotta insulate it or something though, otherwise that camera might be fried too
That was also a cheap, chincy e-stop regardless of amperage.
@@aze0012Nope, just get a proper e stop rated for the appropriate amperage and use a fuse or breaker, not that cheap crap they were using.
@rlsbluedevil2016 It's not like it's an incredibly technical observation. A better one is that the estop they used was a cheap piece of junk. They needed a proper estop that was rated for the proper amperage and a breaker or fuse in series with the power supply before the load. Their saftey protocols for filming are slightly lacking.
That ending with the golf balls was terrifying. Felt like you were about to open a black hole or something. Good stuff, can't wait to see more of this machine of absolute chaos and destruction. What other havoc will it wreak on the world?
same vibe as willy wonka when they go dark mode in the cave. they need a hardware estop IN the bunker
Deadass when they said that i just was thinking of the resonance cascade from Half Life and it spooked me a bit
@@BiggieMFCheese Now that you say that, rather seemed like a similar scenario.
Thankfully, their blender won't rip holes between dimensional space... hopefully. But something like that going wrong and _not_ shutting down is scary.
Considering at least one person didn't know about the e-stop, think some better training and communication might be good in future - especially with building monstrosities like these. _Especially_ if something goes wrong.
So glad it all worked out with the e-stop fail. Can't wait for part 2!
thank you so much for your great videos . being a quadriplegic I enjoy watching you guys having fun.
Y'all could create the world's largest smoothie with that thing😮
first thing i had in mind
And for some reason I see them using abnormally big fruit- like from cloudy with a chance of meatballs 😂
I just commented that on their own comment then realized you said it first xD. If they had like 1000 watermelons
How would they clean it up tho 😂😂😂
They should do that and then donate the smoothies to homeless people or food shelters
I love how editor Jack just slowly becomes more and more the 4th person in the group 😂
I hope he does not blend (pun intended) into the group too much, they have to have an at least moderately sane person near :)
Lol I was going to say something similar. 😂
They need a fourth.. i mean, FortyFour Club.. right? Only makes sense

I mean, this is essentially the same thing as the bats and swords, just with a wall around it.
1:04 I love the surprise in the "It's still going!" Most of the stuff they do is a blink-and-you-miss-it kind of thing, so to have something that is self contained and just keeps going until you stop it must be quite the change for them.
It's also terrifying and feels like they're trying to win a Darwin Award or something.
The amount of interesting things you guys find to do with a big spinny is amazing

Dude that was intense. I seriously love seeing how you guys are all fun and games, but when something actually goes wrong, you’re all genuinely ready to help each other out and make sure everybody is safe. Super cool.
They are actually very dangerous in the way they don't focus on safety first. That machine had some serious torque and they didn't have proper shielding.
When it comes to safety, you do not react while something bad is happening. Instead, you make sure that no matter what happens, you or anyone around you is never in danger during the operation of equipment.
@@guillaumebourgeois42 What do you mean they didn't have proper shielding? They were in a storage container, (what looks like) a good 30-50(?) meters away from the blender.
You can see at 15:11. Plus, they had multiple safety procedures in place, one of them they ended up using to stop the blender after their first e-stop failed.
@@GolenCheeseIt Mild steel, contrary to a popular belief, is not meant to stop flying objects or projectiles. If you want to be truly safe around an object that spins thousands of rotations per minute with such a big tool attached (the blender blades), you either need ballistic glass or some kind of concrete enclosure (bunker at best).
When they realized that their emergency stop failed and they had to have a guy run to turn off the generator, this isn't proper procedure, it's called handling a potentially catastrophic situation in the only we can right now because we were not prepared enough. The blades were still spinning when this guy decided to leave the container to make a run for it.
You just need one well timed defect to end a life, amputate or seriously injure. This is not about being a downer, it is about keeping people safe so they can continue to produce fun videos without having an off-camera hospital visit, and screw the injured persons' family and friends mood for months.
@@guillaumebourgeois42 My mistake. I see what you mean.
@@GolenCheeseIt No mistakes here, I had to learn it from somewhere too ;)

On the one hand, this was an epic video. On the other, I do think you need to upgrade your safety procedures when working with this kind of heavy machinery. You seem to be in need of a few more failsafes!

That could have gone so very very wrong. As someone who used to work in a millwork and cabinet making shop..I've NEVER heard a more terrifying set of words than "the e-stop isn't working"
Don’t copy the top comment you sad human
@@chinanumberone7723 It's not a copy. It's not word for word, and it's not the same part of the industry mentioned in the top comment. There's a high chance the top comment didn't show for them when they commented, even if it was hours after. Your comment has to go through servers, etc, with limited refresh rates (probably not the right term but it's close enough to get the point across), so you could leave a comment and it could take up to several hours to be updated for every other viewer of the video around the world. The way it works and where they might be in the world relative to the author of the top comment, they could have actually commented first, and it was just the timing of the servers updating/refreshing that resulted in their comment showing as being posted later.
The E-stop is the last line of protection for a wide variety of equipment, people's lives depend on it every single day, and for it to be seen not working is going to be the most terrifying thing most/all of the operators of all that equipment could ever hear, because as much as they're trained for operating the equipment safely, the dos and don'ts to stay safe, the backups, escape routes, etc, there's no backup plan to the E-stop, so it's completely understandable that many people working in all the relevant industries and hobbies will share the same thoughts and subsequent comments on this video.
