For you first DIY video, you did quite well. You mentioned using aluminum for the backing. eBay and some of the home improvement stores will sell bars and plates of it in various sizes. For a sailboat project I had good luck with Remington Industries on eBay.

Plastic cutting board material from the dollar store works great. Pretty strong polyethylene and light.
