Let's Photograph Some Wildlife!! - Nikon Z8 + 600mm F6.3 VR S

Wildlife and bird photography can be a real struggle in the summer, dense canopies, thick understorys' and overgrown hedgerows can prove to be a nightmare when locating your subjects. After a run of mostly lackluster ventures exploring the woods I decided to try out a new location and attempt to find wildlife and birds amongst the endless fields of ferns and heathland at the beautiful Cannock Chase.

Great video, this is my local patch which has been very productive this year. The small wood with the stream and old mill remains has had some superb visitors, Wood,Pied and Willow Warblers, Lesser Whitethroat, Redstart, Pied and Spotted flycatchers and quite a few more, the pair of Reed Buntings just up the valley side are unusually approachable, just uphill from them a few weeks ago were three Twites and a Barn Owl (15:30 on a quite sunny afternoon), might see you around there one day

That's a fantastic list of species, the area definitely felt special when I was there. Looks like I've got to make the journey back to explore some more.

I'm a hobbyist wildlife & bird photographer. I use older DSLRs for this purpose. Am I wrong doing so now instead of mirrorless cameras?
The bodies I use are Canon 1D Mark IV, 5D Mark III and 7D. Pair them with premium native prime telephoto lenses. The bodies have tons of shutter life remaining.

If you enjoy using your gear and you're happy with the results then I see no reason to swap to mirrorless other than if you wanted to do more video.
You've got some great bodies and you can't go wrong with native telephoto primes 🙂
