I haven't used my Field much lately because my business has been growing and taking most of my time, so a few days ago I looked to see if there was an update, but no luck, now it's here!! What a great surprise! 🙌🏼
So I got this idea to build my drums separately. (Kick, Snare, Hat, Perc) Then bounce drop them into the track a little further on the tape. Then build a section for Chords, Melody, and Bass.
I’m new to the op-1f, first update! This seems directly targeted at me / my drum process. Only issue: I’ve been holding shift when dropping tracks before the update so I’m gonna need an undo-merge update next 😅
awesome! is there a way to record into tape a moving parameter from the Terminal? I know to do it using the vinyl and moving the knobs, but probably there is a better way 😅
I don‘t know…I think the PO-33 has some sort of file compression going on. I don‘t know how easy it is to reproduce that. On top of that the KO doesn‘t really alias either.
I read and heard but never experienced myself that the old method of bouncing 4 tracks to a single one using the drum sampler reduces the quality of the sound after the merge. Is that true ? And do you think this is higher fidelity merge ? Thank you.
Maybe a silly question but how do you record the audio from OP1 Field for a TH-cam video? If I want to create instagram reels using my OP1 Field, do I record audio and video separately and then combine them in post? New to this so insight is appreciated :)
Going to get into the new firmware after dinner, but the big question I have: does Lift and Merge also copy/resample master FX setting? (Oh please oh please)
@@robertgarvansnyder4665 I think if effects were baked in during a merge that would actually cause more issues, doubling effects/drive would become a mess really fast 😮💨
I feel like TE still hasn't figured out how to properly assign parameter values to the hardware. The physical hardware does not translate very well to the software parameter. For instance the MIX value seems to stay pretty much the same until you get to about 30% ... which happens with almost all of their filters. almost like from 40%-100% there is almost ZERO nuance.
I was just dreaming about a bounce function, and after playing with the EP-133 thought the bitcrusher would be a great effect to add to the Field, looks like my prayers came true 😭
I got an OP-1 about 7 years ago but stopped using it because it has such deep issues in its core workflow. Instead of helping me turn my ideas into fully produced songs, it quickly became a place where my song ideas went to die. I hoped the OP-1f would fix those core issues, but it didn't. It's still just a sketch pad, only now with stereo and a nicer reverb.
It is a device that doesn’t suit everyone’s workflow, but forces you to approach songs as you would on a classic 4-track recorder. I can understand the frustration, but it can be great, if you adjust to this method of working.

The track merge is such a game changer
100%
The merge feature is amazing. It’s going to make it so easy to add on tracks
Absolutely!
Love how quickly you made this video! Your vids are always a pleasure to watch!
Thank you! Woke up to the update and had to make one ;)
great overview. also NB you can merge drop single track on top of another single track and it will merge instaed of overwrite like it used to!
Wow, thanks for the info! That’s great!

Indeed a great surprise!
Best of luck with your business, don’t beat yourself up over it, as long as you feel that longing to it then you’ll get to it
@@husssamo thank you! Yeah I agree, it’s one of my favorite pieces
You delivered as expected! Was waiting for this as soon as the update dropped
Haha, thanks! I appreciate your support :)
This is huge (track merge). Can’t believe what a hassle it was to bounce tracks before and how easy it is now!
Update in progress...Thanks for the presentation!
My pleasure, enjoy!
Drum sounds are epic. Standing-by with my KO II for isolated drum loop 😬
Drum Packs are in the making ;)
So I got this idea to build my drums separately. (Kick, Snare, Hat, Perc) Then bounce drop them into the track a little further on the tape.
Then build a section for Chords, Melody, and Bass.
That sounds like a reasonable workflow!
Thank god I have you as I had no idea there was an update
🙏
How did you move that loop at 1;40?
shift+3 creates a loop around the currently highlighted audio chunk
I’m new to the op-1f, first update! This seems directly targeted at me / my drum process. Only issue: I’ve been holding shift when dropping tracks before the update so I’m gonna need an undo-merge update next 😅
;) good luck!
already got the taste of updates huh ? 😂
awesome! is there a way to record into tape a moving parameter from the Terminal? I know to do it using the vinyl and moving the knobs, but probably there is a better way 😅
If you use it on a synth, you can record all knob movements to tape…also using the ear, you can record the master to tape and move knobs as you please
I wish they made it where you could merge and still maintain each stem. That would eliminate the need for more tracks.
Son Wu is on top of it! Great video !
Always ;)
I love the terminal effect, as usual when it comes to TE it’s much more than a regular bitcrusher
Yup, seems like it with the audio dropouts and such…obviously I haven’t had enough time to go deeper.
This means they are listening
Yup!
I wonder if the Bit Crusher can get that PO33 sound on the samples.
I don‘t know…I think the PO-33 has some sort of file compression going on. I don‘t know how easy it is to reproduce that. On top of that the KO doesn‘t really alias either.
@@SONWU yeah the PO33 sound is my favorite
Great video as always :) Concise and covers it well.
Thank you!

I have never heard of, nor experienced this…
Icon in Terminal looks based on a Commodore PET computer!
Indeed!
Now they just need to add a undo and a save state and it’ll be perfect
👍
Der Effekt ist richtig nice. Passender beat für die Demo. 👍
Danke! In einer Minute gebaut 😜
Holy cow
That’s insane
Merge feature is a game changer
Indeed it is!
Merge to the og OP1 please!!🙏
thank you again son wu!
No worries ;)

New to this so insight is appreciated :)
If you just want to use the OP-field into an iPhone, you can use a USB-C to lightning cable…I add it in post, as I usually also record my voice.
excellent video and update!
Thank you, also for the reminder to check what’s new at @whatispolitics69 for some education :)
lol, y did they counterintuitive highpass-lowpass encoder directions?
yeah, I agree!
Can’t wait to install this!
👌
the merge is destructive right? there is no way to unfold the merged tracks?
Yup, it’s destructive.
Need both features on Knockout 2
It kinda does as a punch in effect…but it would be cool to edit sample rate within the sound edit menu!
the track merge makes me really sad that I have an OG OP1 lol
Understandable…sorry. But then again, no one really NEEDS the field, if you know what I mean!
Going to get into the new firmware after dinner, but the big question I have: does Lift and Merge also copy/resample master FX setting? (Oh please oh please)
No, it seems to bounce before the master section. so no fx, eq, or drive.
@@SONWU oof, that's unfortunate, but still a great workflow enhancement.
To me it's preferable, because it avoid some trouble with changing levels and such. @@robertgarvansnyder4665

Is this only for the Field?? What about the original OP-1?
I have a feeling the OG is not gonna get many more updates…
Love this!
Same here!

I haven’t noticed it yet…have to investigate further!
i farted into op1 field
👍
All of these companies keep trying to mimic that sp1200 crunch…. Add something innovative…. The sp 1200 crunch was by accident not by design
True, but it still sounds great ;)
@@SONWU which one are you referring to the sp or the op1 field?
Can Chompi do the same for $499
I don't think it is as complex to be honest. But for some things it probably is cool.
