    First time ever my bike chain broke at the weekend. Everyone told me how hard it was to fix. I brought a Ebay kit and with your tutorial and had this done in 10 minutes. Helped a lot the part to use back break to lock in. Thank you :)

    It's a pity I did not view this video until now. I had to do a emergency repair on a chain 6 days ago which involved a lot more fiddling around than the technique used here. Thanks I am working my way through your how to series and have learnt a heap of both little and useful tips.

    Great video just one question does the master link have to be for the same speed chain that’s broken e.g. i assume you can’t use a 9 speed link on an 11 speed chain?

    • @cyclemaintenanceacademy
      @cyclemaintenanceacademy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mike. Very good question! Yes, the master link does have to be the same speed as the width of the chains varies. 5,6,7 and 8 all use the same width of chain therefore the same master link. The good news is that you can use any make of master link with any chain. Oh, except for the Shimano rivet type of joining pin. My advice: even if you have a Shimano chain, carry the two-sided master link for the speed of your chain. if you're a ride leader carry master links for all speeds so no one is left stranded!

    Would using such master link be a permanent fix, depending upon the quality steel of the new master link? I'm trying to avoid having to buy a new chain, as well, if that's not necessary. Thanks.

      Hi Steve, thanks for your question. While I can't provide specific details about the quality of various master links, I've used a variety of them in my bike shop without having any issues. I hope this information is useful to you.🙂

    I enjoyed the video but the video was a little bit too short because I was enjoying watching that does you save me a lot of things on here that I didn't know about what I want to know is a masterlink a powerlink a magic link and it quick link why are they all the same are they why are they all different names are they all different names but also the same things or are they different there's another one called The missing Link what is the difference between all these links let me know please thank you

      Hi Danny, thanks for watching and for your feedback! I'm glad you found the video helpful. Regarding your question about masterlinks, powerlinks, magic links, and quick links, they are indeed different names for essentially the same thing. These links are used to connect chain links together quickly and easily without the need for special tools. As for "The Missing Link," it's simply another brand name for this type of chain link. The differences between them are mostly in branding and slight variations in design, but their basic function remains the same. Let me know if you have any further questions!
