It should be 8 pm no screen time for entire household .
Thanks for explaining circadian rite for teens . It was very helpful.
Bed time will have to move to much earlier .

I wish it was that easy I said all this to my son all I got back was yeah yeah.He thinks he knows better I’ve told him to take the light off don’t go on your phone before bed at least a hour . He keeps saying to me I can’t sleep when I’m tired then I will sleep it ends up me getting angry and him not getting up on time. He keeps a small light on doesn’t listen I’m fed up with him. This has been going on since he was in secondary now he is in college he is worse then ever.

I understand you so much. So sick of the morning routine. Sometimes I dread waking up during the week. I shared the video with them but they may not watch it.

Great advise for most parents with teens. However, with my son, if I let him take responsibility for waking up on his own he won’t. He doesn’t care about the consequences, he doesn’t think school is important. It’s frustrating for me and my wife. We are scared that he doesn’t care about anything but playing on his phone. We are at our wits end, please help.

I'm very sorry to hear about the frustrating situation with your son. Do you think your son would be open to working with me through this 1-to-1 coaching program (www.daniel-wong.com/coaching/)?

oh my god do we struggle? We already do these things and still we struggle.
Electronics are set to off by 8:30pm via parental controls.
No mobile phone in teen's room, just an alarm.
Teen told that waking for bed is their responsibility. (I have not done the natural consequence thing because I cannot have my teen miss school!)
Had a calm problem solving discussion about all the measures including that an alarm would go off automatically by 10pm indicating lights out and if that didn't happen then there would be consequences including withdrawal of privileges.
    We dim some lights.
And we get out for a daily walk.
    It is a battle!!!
