    "I'm proud of you for just living."
    I am in tears. Everyone could say to their significant others that they could easily "die for them" when in reality, what would mean a lot more is if they "live for them". Living isn't easy and for someone who's significantly influential in your life to say that they're proud of you to continue fighting to live... means so much.. For that, thank you, Kanae... and thank you, Rumi-san, for providing us with another great translation vid!

    I agree with Kanae! Improving your skills to be able to be more confident is important
    Also the GF/BF thing, I don't think it's a good idea if you're looking BF/GF solely for the sake of having one.
    I guess it's pretty important in Japan to have one before christmas, but that's probably won't ended up as a good relationship.

    The 18 years old and no experience in relationships. Being unable to stop being jealous and stuff. Oh, but I think I'm also at the point of thinking that I'm inferior, cause I KNOW that I am, so I quite like that advice lol. I'm really interested in how he sees things, he's mature and his voice is soothing. I guess in Japan it's kind of important to have a lover at some point, very interesting and I wonder if it's because of peer pressure and loneliness? For the sake of having someone to call a "Girlfriend" or a "Boyfriend " won't end up well, though.

    I must disagree with Kanae's answer to the girl always getting boyfriends who are only after her body. Wearing less exposing clothes will not solve her problem. Some guys are just plainly scumbags who love playing around with girls though. If the girl is aware that she's being taken advantage of then she might be not the frivolous type of girl, she's just being unlucky to meet a bunch of bastards. As a girl, I think she should investigate the guy carefully before doing the deeds (holding up her guard and being timid is no good though, this will attract even more bastards who love conquering introvert girls)
    But it's still interesting to hear from a boy's perspective though lol
    Btw I love his "accepting your own inferiority" this show how matured he is 😇

    • @ruminclips
      @ruminclips  3 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      In English (and being from America) I would usually agree with you 100%, but I'm half-half with it purely because it's Japan and their whole language revolves around implying things without actually saying it... Having lived there for a bit, it was definitely a pain sometimes ;; It could be a possibility that the girl has a friendly habit (whether body language or talking) that's normally taken as a go sign and she's not aware of it.

    • @hangtang1210
      @hangtang1210 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@ruminclips I'm an Asian (a Vietnamese) but I'm still baffled with Japan's whole "implying things without saying" thing. Being either friendly or timid is no good then just how to find an earnest boyfriend then... Maybe being lucky is the key factor after all 🙄

      I apologize in advance for my wordy reply but I did find that topic of conversation interesting and would like to share my two cents, so here goes:
      These are really valid points! Though I agree with what you've said, I understand where he is coming from. As someone from an Asian country as well, people here frequently form a common perception or judgment in relation to their observations from one's clothes, mannerisms, and behavior in public or society. It's slowly getting a little outdated but people still tend to rely on telltale visual signs in order to have a "general grasp" of a person's characteristics and make "assumptions" or "conclusions" from it.
      His answer per se definitely won't be a complete deterrent since there really are plain jerks in this world, but I think it could help somehow or at least, it gives a person a food for thought in searching for the solution to the problem. I do find it sad that a person "has" to change a method of how they express themselves so that others won't take advantage of them but hopefully that all changes in the future. Despite that, I somehow appreciate that he implied (at least from how I interpreted his words) how the others are at fault too for the creation of that problem and possibly thinking that way about the viewer. In a way, I guess he really goes by what he said before about how it's difficult to change others and the only one you can change (have major power to) is oneself. Therefore, his answer leaned more to that side.
      What you said really is true though, he is quite the mature type by the way he answers and also how interesting it is to hear from a guy's pov.

      I think you’ve misinterpreted him there?? He gave her two ideas: to be more on guard or show less skin. I don’t think being on guard is the same thing as acting meek and unapproachable and being interpreted as an introvert? It’s just about paying more attention to the things she does that could affect how people interact with her and he thinks her clothing could be a possibility. Like you suggested, she could also not be very good at identifying assholes, or that she has a different sense of friendly distance and fashion from what’s typical of most girls and some men misunderstand that as willingness to go along with them. You obviously shouldn’t judge people by clothing, but there are plenty of people who do and would go after her because of it.
      I don’t think there’s anything wrong with his advice honestly. When you find yourself in a situation where the same thing keeps happening to you and not to other people, there’s a good chance that you’re the common denominator. It doesn’t mean it’s your fault, just that it’s within your ability to do something about, which I think is much more empowering than “you’ve just got bad luck and there’s nothing you can do about it”.
      Also love his view on accepting inferiority btw.

      I think what he was trying to convey is more like... Don't give off mixed signals? I don't know how true it is in Japan, but it's really easy to conflate being polite and amiable and being sexually/romantically interested with someone. Specifically, taking it from a guy's perspective on the matter.
      I've also had the issue that the girl (assuming the OP is a girl) where any relationship I form with a guy eventually evolves to some point of romantic/sexual interest. Not that I'm necessarily interested in a relationship, but I offer a few mixed signals because of how actively friendly I am.

    Regarding about Kanae's suggestion about the girl who asks on how to get a proper boyfriend:
    I kinda get how people thought that he's slut-shaming, but he probably didn't mean to word it that way. He's probably trying to convey that instead of becoming a part of the problem, try preventing the problem? Although he could've given a different answer on a question "How can I get a proper boyfriend?", it's not the best fix, but a suggestion in order to find a better boyfriend I believe? Maybe it was the first thing he thought so he gave that answer. Anyways, thank you for the translation!

    I completely disagree with the wearing less clothes part. I really don't think she should regulate her clothing just to control some dudes, if that's the only way they'll respect her then they're shitty anyways.

    i cant understand why people love to have free sex with random people, why they dont afraid of STDs? and afaik there's no real curing for these diseases. Like is it worth it? I heard porn actors do have regular tests and they have to certify that they are free from stds. And the last part is a good encouragement, it touched my heart, it is a strong message actually.

    That saying is disgusting, I think it's perpetuated way too much that men are always thirsting for and horny after women and it's sets an expectation that many men don't lift up to and feel ashamed for not living up to it when they may have a lower sex drive than expected. It's the same with people thinking women should be "pure" and have a lower sex drive. It also sets up an expectation for straight women in relationships since they may think there's something wrong with them if their boyfriend isn't up for sex all the time.

      @LD TV tbh i don’t agree w what he’s saying at all. rather, for me, it should be the men who need to adjust their mindset and keep it in their pants. wearing revealing clothes doesn’t automatically mean that women are asking for sexual advances. women shouldn’t be constantly scrutinized for their choice of clothes just bc men can’t control themselves.

      @@blythesprite7096 yeah i read the comments here too and was surprised that not a lot of ppl were talking abt it. but yeah, i understand it’s a culture thing and that they have different ideals in their country. i acknowledge that but i still respectfully disagree w that opinion abt clothes bc i have diff ideals in my country too.

    • @kumi433
      @kumi433 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @LD TV nope, sorry too but, that will never be me and i will always disagree with that thinking. it's not unrealistic at all to live in such a world if men just get educated, at a young age, abt controlling themselves rather than placing the fault in women, early on, and telling them to adjust their choice of clothing. if anything, i feel bad for the female viewer since she has to meet assholes that only want her for her body just bc she (possibly) wears revealing clothes. the discussion abt clothing just furthers the thinking of "boys will be boys" which dangerously implies tolerance. hope she finds the right one.

    • @kumi433
      @kumi433 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @LD TV ...how does women being told to wear less revealing clothes = not putting the fault in them? when it already heavily implies that the reason why that situation is happening to a girl is bc they’re wearing “too little” so the only “solution” is to wear more. i just find it funny that whenever the topic abt women’s clothes is brought up, some people will ALWAYS always use that analogy abt robbery to compare the situation lmao. as if showing just a little more skin than what is considered “normal” means it already warrants sexual advances from men.
      and, for me, it is about “boys will be boys” since men always get away scot-free in these cases for whatever reason while women have no other choice but to adjust and tolerate.

    "Wear something that shows less skin to prevent guys coming after for your body", huh? I'm still waiting for the day that men will learn what consent is.
    If a girl comes to me and asks "those guys are always after my body, how can i find a proper boyfriend?" i would answer with "try to find loyal, well behaved boys with manners" not "try to be less slutty" lol. I'm sorry if you are a fan of this guy but i hated his inconsiderate
    answer. Sorry.

      I know this is quite an old comment but I can't stop the urge to comment something sorry.
      1. I don't think your advice will help much because how would you know that person is really well-behaved and loyal to you? It's not like we can tell what the other person think of us. The man may act nice in front of you to let your guard down when in fact he's just aiming for your body. That's not a practical solution IMO.
      2. I rather take Kanae's advice to wear something less revealing as to keep my guard up because generally what aroused men the most is definitely women. That's their nature and it's a just a matter of how they're handling it. Realistically, the day where all men in the world learn about consent will never come. There's just too many people with all different kind of personality and thinking. Just as how there will always be toxic people on Internet.
      Just as Kanae quote, it's easier to change ourselves than to change others.
      If you're reading this, I'm open for discussions if you want :)
      (oh yeah, and he doesn't slut-shaming anyone fyi so stop slandering him)

      Agree like this is why victim blaming happens all the time literally like women are always expected and taught to wear conservative clothes to protect themselves but no one ever tells men to respect women. Women are expected to wear conservative clothes and the moment they wear revealing clothes and something happens to them then boom, victim blaming. "It's because of your clothes" and such. Like for heaven's sake stop telling women to wear conservative clothes and instead teach men to respect others. Everyone should be able to wear whatever they want and be respected. I hope there comes a day where that happens and everyone would change that kind of mindset, because I too in the past had such mindset but I've changed now and so I hope everyone would too.
