By far my favourite thing about AOT is the overall way it delivers its answers. We’re constantly being given answers! - We just don’t know what the question is yet.
That is so profound I'm actually dumbfounded
And every time we get a new answer, it immediately leads to new questions.
omg your so right
Also i like the way, they don't deliver information with much intent at all. Doesnt give you the feeling of breaking the fourth wall by knowing the writers just did it to give us specific explanations. 80% of the things are absolutely useless and i love it.
Questions in aot are like hydras, one gets answered two more pop up.
"I do feel like we are close to getting some answers"
Bahahahahahahahahaha! One thing about AOT- every answer you get comes with 100 new questions.
Ikr! I laughed at this part as well! But I bet we were also the same optimistic innocents at first. 😂
‘Who do you think the enemy is?’
This question will remain until the end of the show
Hanji’s perspective on titans is truly respectable because while most understandably despise and loath the titans she looks at them as enemies she can learn from and understand.
"what do you think the enemy is"... erwin knew all along
But, he didn't, he only had guesses.
The story told about the cannibal clan is actually a 17th century legend, and the clan chief's name was Sawney Bean.
16th century*
That line of Erwin who's the enemy is really well written , it does it's job in upcoming 3 4 episodes but it's such a well written line that it sticks for the entire story
8:32 You see 'Sir' in the subtitles. But he (Moblit) always calls Hange 分隊長(Boon-Tigh-Choh) = Squad Leader. 3:22 Levi is called Levi 兵長(Hey-Choh) = Captain Levi🙂
Your romaji is all over the place, let me correct it; it is written as "bun taichou" and "heishichou". It is important because if you hear a Japanese word but don't know how to write in Japanese alphabet, you can always use romaji to search the word.
I think the way they wrote it was just to make it easier to pronounce.@@Haplo-san
@@justsomemaninachickencostu9643The translator starts to use the term "squad leader" for Hange in the future for the official subs instead of "sir" so it's not a matter of making it easy to pronounce but accuracy of translation.
@@Jonas-ob2sh he's fixing the mistake made in the comment where he misspells words in romaji
@@Haplo-sanhe spelled it like that because of pronounciation not by its romaji. You better understand his intention first.
It is so sad that Sean Bean died in this episode.
Do you think that was part of the joke?
A Sean Bean reference in an Attack on Titan reaction video? Now that's soldiering.
If you want Levi's lore with Erwin then you should watch the 2 ova's named NO REGRETS , it's note main series but it's the entire story of why levi is the way he is
up
stop spoiling
@@Henrydota2 how did a karen get in here
@@Henrydota2not a spoiler, its in the past. Its a prequel.
Those are after season 1
Sawney Bean is a folklore cannibal outside of Attack on Titan too
Oh here you meet one of my favorite characters of all time! Hange is truly the embodiment of spirit of the scout
I mean they’ve already been on screen but now is when they started to shine
If you love Hange's eccentricity, she has a bonus episode (OVA) called Ilse's Notebook. Highly recommend watching that in between Seasons 1 & 2 for additional world building. There are 4 other OVAs released in between those Seasons that you could watch. There's a post credits scene at the finale of season 1 too.
You somehow remind me of 2BrothersReact / ABrotherReact sibling pair. Great reactions so far...
Sawney bean was an actual cannibal
Something really cool about Hange is that the author drew the character looking more androgynous on purpose, to leave the gender up to the viewers. Basically, you can use any pronouns for Hange and technically none are wrong.
In the manga, but in the anime she is explicitly female.
@@lucassmith3790 Yeah, cause animation studios always take liberties and they started animating her before it was confirmed that she was meant to be androgynous. At that point, all they could do was to with it.
Little fact not many seem to know but Sawney Bean was a Scott and leader of a clan in the 1500s that murdered and ate over 1,000 people in a span of 25 years.
Some scientists believe that according to the biological characteristics of human bones and muscles, standing on two feet can reach a maximum of 2.72 meters. When writing this story, the author obviously consulted a lot of information about the human body.
I love how they're all just a little unhinged! And I adore how they make Hange's voice androgynous. They're one of my favorites.
Hange is FANTASTIC (easily top 3 character for me); however if you check out her OVA "Ilse's Notebook", then please do it AFTER watching season 2 episode 1! Otherwise you spoil yourself slightly (in my and many others' opinions).
11:02 Erwin almost gave eren spoilers like a manga reader gives to an anime only 😂
Fun fact: In the manga, Hange's gender is left up to the reader. Theyre reffered to as both he and she in the manga., but in the Anime Hange is a girl, this is because the producers loved Romi (her voice actor) so much, Isayama agreed to have her be female in the Anime. (Even though Romi has also voiced male characters in other shows). But there are instances of characters referring to Hange in the show as a male, hence her being called "sir" in this episode by one of the other military members.
In Wiki, Alexander "Sawney" Bean is a legendary figure, said to be have been the head of a clan in Scotland in the 16th century that murdered and cannibalized over 1,000 people in 25 years.
Actually, it's a real life horror story, look it up if u have time 😉
its a horror story but its likely just an urban legend, other than a cave none of the landmarks mentioned in their story are real and theres no records of the mass execution of an entire family at that time or area.
I love Hange so much!!!!!! She's honestly one of the best/most important characters in this show
i love erwin he just always seems to know more than everyone
Loving this series so far! You guys are my favorite reaction channel and honestly the only one where I watch the whole thing.
I don't know how far ahead you guys are watching, but if you haven't started Season 2 yet you should check out the "Diary of Scout Regiment Soldier" and "A Choice with No Regrets". They are one of episodes that were released between seasons 1 & 2 that set up more mystery and expand on Levi's backstory that was teased in this episode. I think they're critical to really enjoying what Season 2 has to offer
When erwin ask eren that last part🥶 still give me goosebumps goatedcommander
we love you guys thx for posting! 😊
I’m really enjoying your contents as anime native from Tokyo.
Thank you for your contents.
Hanji really is best girl, I love her!
Hange is my favorite character
Mine, too! She's the best!
My sister and I love you and watch all your videos, Keep going 💖💖
I love how y'all get so mad at the to be continued message.
YOUR JUST LIKE ME!!! LOL.
PLEASE...Watch 'NO REGRETS OVA.'
Its Captain Levis backstory.
Its so good and focuses on when Levi was an underground criminal, its a MUST WATCH
Yes, great episode. Also, Hanji is such a great character she's so funny🤣🤣
Sawney Bean was a real life serial killer. Look him up.
I will add on to another comment here:
If you like these characters (the recruits, Hange, Levi), and don't want to get right into season 2 after this, I would *highly* recommend watching the OVA's between season 1 and season 2.
idk what the actual heck an OVA even is lol, but they're like backstory/filler episodes that give more context to this world and how some characters ended up where they are (don't worry, some of them carry the same emotional punch as the regular episodes).
These are the ones you should watch (do not watch the other ones before season 2!):
Ilse's Notebook: Notes from a Scout Regiment Member (wtf episode, very weird titan)
A Sudden Visitor: The Torturous Curse of Adolescence (Fun filler, cook-off between Jean and Sasha)
Distress (Never actually watched this one, so brb)
A Choice with No Regrets: Part One/Part Two (Levi backstory, cool underground city that was namedropped this episode)
That about does it. Love hearing your predictions about the story, because you are often very wrong, but bring about amazing discussion and theories, so it really feels like rewatching the show again :D
Nowadays an OVA is exactly what you say. Back then it used to be any kind of animation that finished their run in very few episodes and released every episode separately (usually in VHS or DVD).
It stands for Original Video Animation.
I think it’s time for you to look at the ova " Ilse's Notebook: Notes from a Scout Regiment Member "
While watching aot for 1st time. The first season feels good and everything else is just great
While rewatching s1 is the real goat
>"I feel like we're so close to getting answers."
You sure are :)

*2:40** "How many kills does Captain Levi have?"*
*All of them.* 😐
"Who do u think Is the enemy"
Erwin was already in season 4 here guys 😂😂
When you're in any military, your superior officer is Sir. At least in america, that is. Men, women, they are both sir. It is a sign of respect, but it's also expected of you. It's disrespectful to not call your superior officer Sir. It's a breach of military etiquette and can classify you as insubordinate. Big no no.
Erwin : "What do you think the enemy is?"
Eren : "I wonder who!" 🤔
Is there a chance that you two are gonna react to "Supernatural" someday?
Would be awesome!!
Hey you have to watch OVA episodes after season 1.......there are 8 episodes ...then you can see who the levi really is .....good job sisters ❤
Answers? No. At this point in the series there will only be more questions-the main one being "WTF?".
Levi -> Assists 0 ; Kills uncountable 😁

8:40 "Squad Leader", not Sir

RIP Sawney & Bean 😢
Haley and Carissa, after watching the season1, watch the OVA 4 and 5 titled "No Regrests". It will better put things into perspective about Levi and the show on general.
11:05 "What do you think the *ENEMY* is?"
If I had to pick the best part of AOT it would be watching you guys react to this one, you are amazing and funny.
"I feel like we're close to getting more answers..." Hahahahah, it is rare to hear this kind of comment.
Thanks for the reaction
2:40 yeah right 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
What do you think the enemy is? 😮
please check Illse's notebook ova after s1, it is like a hange's story but does a lot for worldbuilding and foreshadowing
The thing with Moblit calling Hange 'sir' is because of respect and it is her rank.
also wanna let you know the author said we can refer to Hange however we like.."She".."He".."They"...The author just said Hange's gender is not important
in general "sir" is used in military for both genders. if you watch FMAB you will notice certain female general is also always addressed as "sir".
No one calls Hange sir in Japanese. It's just a translation choice. Moblit calls her by her rank in the scouts, Erwin and Levi call her Hange, and others Hange-san. We don't use pronouns in conversation. We always refer to people by their names and social status.
@@2609just i see..I edited it. well still i just want to let them know about Hange's gender
@@kengo7273 got it. I edited it..My bad. I still wanna let them know of Hange's gender
Como eu amo quando a Hange aparece 💜
I noticed some people mention Moblit calling Hange "sir", and they are right in that it's just a translation choice and he's just saying the rank, but I also wanted to add since I didn't see anyone else say it, the author confirmed Hange is actually non-binary! He requested that for the anime, they would avoid using gendered terms for hange, or alternate between masculine & feminine terms. And to my memory, they're always referred to either by name or rank, so it seems they stuck by that ^_^
Sidenote tho, I started watching your guys' reactions around halfway through season 2 & i'm going back to catch up, y'all are really fun to watch and i love how observant you both are!
You may need the "pause video" soon. 😉
You need to watch OVAs called No Regrets part 1 and 2 before Season 2.
Just to say @haylo & Kiss, you can watch the opening AFTER Episode 17. ;) Not far off!
After season 1 you should react to the ova "no regrets" and "ilse's diary"
Its a part of the official story line and you should definitely check it out😊
Ilse's diary should be watched after the first episode of S2 to prevent spoilers iirc
Hange is actually non-binary, she doesn't mind being called Sir or Ma'am
8:38 actually yes it is for respect, because Moblit (that soldier) is in hange squad and the thing he says is the title of Hange's rank. But whats really interesting its that Isayama (SnK creator) avoided at all giving Hange any kind of gender, allways avoding calling they a her or a him. When they have to adapt the manga to anime Isayama prefeared to "transform" Hange into a women (overall because of the voiceacting) but theyre still a non-binary person
everyone still in season 1 while erwin alredy in season 4
Sir is use for both male and female in the millitary
Hange is referred to as sir because she is their superior in a military structure. Same reason Cpt Janeway from Star Trek Voyager is called sir by her crew. Hange's sex in the original material isn't mentioned but the author of the manga wrote her as female. He said he is fine with people viewing her as what ever they want though and some fans do since no sex is mentioned.
To me, if the author drew her and views her as a woman that's good enough for me.
Well, "Sir" brings up something that annoys me generally. In Japan, Hange is transliterated as Hans, and the character is deliberately gender ambiguous/non-binary. I don't know how many localisations decided not to use Hans, but my understanding is that it was done to avoid any "controversy". I make a mad face, then let it go.
Yayyyyyy another reaction ❤❤❤
8:33 He was actually just calling their rank, so it was out of respect. But, in the manga Hange is designed as a more androgynous character so their gender isn't as clearly defined.
commander erwin the Man, the Myth, the Eyebrows
Moblit, the guy who is always in the background with Hange telling them to stop doing dangerous things, is my absolute favourite character. No other show has me so invested in a background character.
captain levi has 69420 kills lmfao
Your hypothesis is super close. Dig deeper. This story is very deep. Dig way deeper. You're on the right track, but you're missing a lot of details. Next few episodes, pay very close attention. Some things aren't going to add up if you're paying attention carefully.
suggestion here!! do 1 episode everyday or 2 when you usually do
Fun fact: in the manga, Hanji isn't actually a confirmed woman and mostly considered as non-binary. For some reason they decided to make them into a woman in the anime tho
Mad y'all aren't in season 2 on Patreon 😭😭
👍👍👍👍👍
Please consider watching the OVA No Regrets after season 2 and before season 3. It's better to watch it after season 2 as it ties in with season 3.
Fun fact: Titans built the walls to protect themselves from captain Levi
The names Sawney and Bean are probably inspired by the actor Sean Bean’s name, whose character keeps dying in almost every movie or TV series he’s in, from LOTR’s Boromir to GOT’s Ned Stark ! Wow, just thought of that ! 😂
Btw, Great reaction ! Keep em coming ! ❤️
✌✌✨✨
I'm not at all well-versed in military conventions, but I have the impression that it's standard custom in the chain of command to call a superior officer "sir" regardless of their gender.
Incidentally, Hange is canonically non-binary. It's not really apparent by the more fem-Hange of the anime, but in the manga the way Hange is drawn is much more androgynous.
11:46 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
❤❤❤
All details your want to hear about what titan is have shown out from before episodes already, as Hangi said Aren knew all of that from when he was a training soilder.
In the manga Hanji is actually gender neutral but in the anime Hanji is very clearly a she and always goes by female pronouns as far as I remember.
Moblito!!
11:45 HAHAHA " i think we are close to getting some answers" trust me when i say this.. youre not even close to most of the answers! but these reactions are top notch.
8:38 so a fun little bit of trivia that doesn't really affect the show: In Japanese he didn't actually call Hange "Sir" there (instead calling her by her rank) however, it's very likely that this translation was a nod from the translator towards the fact that Hange in the manga is never actually gendered. While being canonically female in the Anime, in the source material Isayama left Hange's gender ambiguous and up to interpretation, going so far as to tell publishers to remove gendered pronouns from localizations. Obviously that doesn't work for every language, but it was a neat authorial choice to write Hange as a totally androgynous character.
Bascially you can choose which gender to give Hanji according to the author of the manga. Their titles are male, but they say "she". In the manga they are much more androgyn, in the anime they gave them more of a female presenting look :D I think thats why that character called Hanji "Sir" ^^
no its just the translation. she's called by her position in japanese
Hange = best girl
The Japanese title of the show is like "Attack with Titan", totally opposite of the English one.
It's more like "the attacking titans"
@@zahraa4149 "shingeki" implies it is on your side while we could not tell which side it is with your translation.
@@Tnakamura11 as far as I know, it doesn't really imply that. The title makes it clear the titan/s are doing the attacking. There is no "with" in the title
@@zahraa4149 It's very difficult for non-native Japanese speakers to pick up nuances like this. It actually implies it is on our side. So I felt wierd till the episode 7. But after that episode, I figured out that "Shingeki no Kyojin" was actually Eren. And at the end of the 1st series, Erwin says "kondo ha wareware ga shingeki suru bandesu(Now it is our turn to attack on them), such a cliche to call out a part of the title at the very end. I geuss this is the first time the word "shingeki" is used.
@@Tnakamura11
Are you a native Japanese speaker?
Yes, once you get to the part where Eren's titan's name is revealed it's obvious that the name of the show is the name of Eren's titan, but up until that point you have no way of knowing that
Your example clearly shows that the word isn't used for the attack being on your side, the attack is on the other side. You are the one attacking
the reason everyone keeps calling hange sir is because of a respect thing + hange is non-binary
You should react AOT memes Erwin weird questions
From what i understand, Hange's gender is unspecified in the manga, Hange being called sir can be taken a few ways.
Havent read the manga, but she is clearly a woman in the anime...
Also, they arent calling her "sir". Its a translation error
React to jujutsu kaisen
i could be wrong but i remember hearing that Hange is for lack of a better word, non binary, in the books they use both pronouns and its left uncertain
I think it's because Isayama's early art was notoriously rough and one of his critics said that he couldn't tell what gender Hanji was supposed to be, because his art was so bad. Isayama just doubled down on it and said he'll just leave it up to the reader to decide Hanji's gender. But I think she's a gal tho.
